Bajwa, Sahney support Diljit Dosanjh amid controversy

Jun 30, 2025 08:22 AM IST Senior Congress leader and leader of Opposition in state assembly Partap Singh Bajwa has supported singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh amid recent calls by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees to revoke his Indian citizenship over casting of Pakistani actress Hania Amir in Sardaar Ji 3. 'I find FWICE's demand not only unreasonable but also completely unjustified,' said Bajwa. 'Diljit is a celebrated Indian artiste who has made all of us proud on the global stage,' he said, adding that artistic collaborations should not be politicised. Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney said questioning Diljit's patriotism was unjust. (HT File) Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney said questioning Diljit's patriotism was unjust. In a statement, Sahney said Dosanjh had clearly clarified that the movie was shot in February, well before the Pahalgam attack, during which even an India-Pakistan cricket match also took place. 'We must not confuse timelines or facts when judging intent,' he said. The MP lauded Dosanjh for his sensitivity to public sentiment, citing his decision not to release the film in India.

RS member Sahney hails India-Canada diplomatic reset

Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Tuesday welcomed the landmark agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney to restore diplomatic representation by appointing new high commissioners for both nations. Calling it a 'moment of much-needed reset,' he said this positive step will ease the hardships faced by Indian citizens, especially NRIs, who have long awaited regular and timely visa services to visit their families and homeland. On the economic implications of this renewed engagement, Sahney said that with over $8.2 billion bilateral trade in 2024 and Canadian investments exceeding $55 billion in India, there is a vast scope to expand cooperation.

New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): International President of World Punjabi Organisation and RS MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Monday condemned the alleged act of young Jatt kids kicking posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on social media X, Singh shared a video purportedly originating in Canada showing young children kicking a truck with pictures of PM Modi and wrote that it was 'unfortunate' that young and tender innocent minds were fed with hate instead of hope. He further wrote in his post that children should be imbued with the moral values emphasised by Guru Sahib. 'As International President of World Punjabi Organisation, I strongly condemn this act. It is deeply unfortunate when young, tender and innocent minds are fed with hate instead of hope. Let us imbibe in our children the moral values emphasised by our Guru sahib and that is ' Jb Tk Duniya Rahiye Nanak Kuch Suniye Kuch Kahiye'. Solution of all the issues is in dialogue,' the post read. He further stated that one should not forget that under the leadership of PM Modi, India was able to take various decisions, including the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor and the Hemkunt Sahib ropeway. 'Let's also not forget Government of India's various decisions under PM Modi's leadership like opening up of Kartarpur Corridor, Hemkunt Sahib Ropeway, Setting up SITs for 1984 anti Sikh genocide Victims, Slashing of blacklisting and visa clearance for Overseas Sikhs who were wrongly barred, granting FCRA registration to Sri Darbar Sahbir enabling global Sangat to do Seva, waiving office GST on Langar items, celebrating 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and 400th of Guru Teg Bahadur ji at large scale are some positive and constructive gestures towards Sikh sentiments,' the post read. Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, in a post on X also condemned the alleged act and stated that every Sikh was 'deeply disturbed' and 'ashamed' to see the unlike-Sikh incident against a leader who constantly showed up for the ethos of Sikhism. In his post, Sirsa wrote that the incident was not the 'spirit of Sikhism' but the 'influence of individuals with dangerous agendas.' 'Every Sikh is deeply disturbed and ashamed to see this unlike-Sikh incident in Canada, where children are inflicting such hatred. And that too against a leader who has consistently shown deep respect for the ethos of Sikhism. What we are witnessing is not the spirit of Sikhism but the influence of some individuals with dangerous agendas. These aren't true representatives of our faith; they appear to be ISI-influenced agents who aren't shying away from radicalising youth or children. They are promoting hate, with a sinister goal of isolating Sikhs globally and tarnishing our reputation. We condemn this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. It is time for all Sikhs, especially those in the diaspora, to stand up against this distortion of our identity and teachings,' the post read. Sirsa further mentioned that Sikhs were ever grateful to PM Modi for all that he had done for the community. 'Sikhs in India are ever grateful to Modi Ji for all that he has done for the community... from the opening of Kartarpur Corridor to celebrating Guru Purabs with such devotion and commemorating the heroic deeds of Sahibzades. He is the one who organised the historic celebration at the Red Fort. He is one who ensured the safe return of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji from Afghanistan. He is the one who understood the pain of the 1984 genocide and ensured justice for the victim families,' the post further read. (ANI)

All-Party Delegation: India Pushes South-South Trade, Reiterates Counter-Terrorism Cooperation

During the Group 7 all-party delegation visit to South Africa under the government's diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, Indian MPs across party lines underlined India's commitment to countering terrorism and deepening cooperation under the BRICS framework. The delegation, led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule, held a press conference highlighting the common resolve against terrorism. Additionally, AAP MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney highlighted India's focus on "South-South cooperation" and advocated for BRICS trade in local currencies, along with expanded investment through the New Development Bank to support Africa's agri-value chains and food security. Speaking at the press conference on Thursday (local time), Sahney said, "India has historic relations with South Africa and at that point of time, African National Congress (ANC) was the largest party but during this visit, our delegation had very fruitful discussions and interacted with all senior leaders of the ANC." He added, "We fully support the South-South cooperation and, as a member of the BRICS council, it was in Durban that the BRICS forum was launched in 2012. We are also looking at BRICS countries to conduct trade in local currencies. I think it is within our right to promote trade and investment, and promote, through the New Development Bank, of which India was a great supporter, to get the regional office opened in South Africa. We have laid emphasis that the BRICS Development Bank should also focus more on the agri-value chain for food security of Africa." BJP MP Anurag Thakur emphasised the global support India has received in light of repeated terror attacks. "We have been going places conveying the message of 1.4 billion Indians as we have been the victim of cross-border terrorism. The message is very loud and clear. Whatever we have been seeing from the reports that anywhere the other delegations have gone, the majority of the nations have come in favour because it is not only a threat to India but to the world," he said. BJP leader and delegation member V Muraleedharan also reiterated India's consistent and non-partisan foreign policy. He said, "India, whichever country we engage with, be it South Africa or any other country, we don't engage with a particular party in Government. We engage with the government irrespective of the party and with the people of that country." "India's relationship with South Africa is centuries old. We have been partners as people-to-people as well as in trade and economy and government-to-government. India continues to have its foreign policy which considers the interests of the international community, the global good and the rule of law. These two aspects have been kept of prime importance. We feel that the BRICS or the interests of the global south will be of paramount importance of India. We will continue to engage with South Africa as well as other partners in the same way that we have been doing." The members of the delegation comprise of MPs Supriya Sule, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, former Minister of Commerce & Industry, V Muraleedharan, Former Minister of State for External Affairs, and Syed Akbaruddin, Former Permanent Representative of India to the UN. They visited Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, paid tribute at the Gandhi Statue, and viewed the Mandela-Gandhi Exhibition inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit comes in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, launched by India in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, in which 26 people, including a Nepalese national, were killed.
