Tennessee Titans' best moments: When Keith Bulluck called himself 'Mr. Monday Night'
Pro Football Reference's NFL nickname database is severely lacking. For example: Not a single player from the 2007 Tennessee Titans is listed as having a nickname. Not one. And we know that's phooey. David Stewart was 'Big Country.' LenDale White, at differing points in his career, was known as both 'Thunder' and 'Smash.' Vince Young pretty famously got called 'V.Y.' all the time. Kyle Vanden Bosch earned the nickname 'Wild Man' later in his career. And Keith Bulluck, of course, was 'Mr. Monday Night.' Sept. 24, 2007. Titans vs. Saints. 'Monday Night Football.' And it's the game where No. 20 on The Tennessean's top Tennessee Titans moments landed. The Titans' defense has future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees in hell. He turns the ball over five times, tied for the most in any game in his fabled career. Bulluck, who made headlines by decreeing himself 'Mr. Monday Night' prior to the game, lived up to his own declaration, intercepting Brees three times in the Titans' 31-14 win. Bulluck played 170 games in his NFL career, logging 21 interceptions and 72 passes defensed along the way. Only 15 of those games were on Monday night, but six of his picks and 12 of his PDs came in those games. That means 29% of his career interceptions and 17% of his breakups came in just 9% of his games. The moniker surely fits. More: Updating construction efforts, ticket sales for new Nissan Stadium at project's midpoint When Bulluck was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2023, he said he likes to think of his Titans tenure as three phases. Early on, he watched and learned from leaders like Eddie George and Steve McNair. In the middle years, he asserted himself as the prime voice in the locker room. And in the last stage, he got hurt, and the Titans moved on. His three-interception game against the Saints was the pinnacle of Phase 2 of his career and is the prime argument for considering Bulluck as potentially the best Titans player ever. It's a little low on this countdown because none of the individual plays stand out as a dazzling moment. But taken as a whole, the achievement is undeniable. Eagles 'Dream Team' QB Earns All-Time Worst Label
Eagles 'Dream Team' QB Earns All-Time Worst Label originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles have had plenty of star quarterbacks on their roster over the last 25 years, but have also had their share of duds. Advertisement For every Donovan McNabb or Jalen Hurts, there has been a Mike McMahon or Kevin Kolb. (Actually, the ratio is worse than that, but we're being kind.) While there seems to be a legitimate debate about which signal-caller gets the top spot on the franchise's list of best quarterbacks since 2000, Eagles fans can engage in a similarly heated debate regarding who is the worst QB during this stretch. Yes, it's still NFL Listicle Season, and as we're 25 years into the century, it's also "All-Quarter-Century" time. What an honor. Unless ... PhillyVoice's Jimmy Kempski went upside-down and ranked an "Eagles Anti-All Quarter Century team" list and chose quarterback Vince Young as the signal-caller. Advertisement The logic? "Young only started three games for the Eagles, all in 2011. He went 1-2, with 4 TDs and 9 INTs. But he was also the player who called the Eagles a "Dream Team" during 2011 training camp," Kempski said. "In those days, Eagles training camps were still in Lehigh, and the media had a trailer where we wrote up our camp stories. "I can remember reporters hustling to the trailer to write up Young's 'Dream Team' comments before his presser had even ended." Young not productive as a Philadelphia QB, but Kempski is right about how he foolishly went out of his way to put a target on the back of the 2011 Eagles, who never came close to living up to that billing. Advertisement The Texas Longhorns legend and Heisman Trophy winner was once one of the best young quarterbacks in the game; he won Offensive Rookie of the Year in Tennessee. After that, though, Young struggled. And the Eagles were just one of the teams that suffered because of that — both due to his words and his inactions. Vince Young's 2006 Rose Bowl touchdown ranks in top 3 on ESPN's top college football plays
Vince Young's 2006 Rose Bowl touchdown ranks in top 3 on ESPN's top college football plays "Fourth and Five the National Championship on the line" Nearly two decades after Vince Young led the Texas Longhorns to a dramatic 41-38 victory over the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl, his game-winning touchdown remains etched among college football's most unforgettable moments. On Jan. 4, 2006, Young's fourth-and-5 scramble in the waning seconds secured Texas' first national championship in 35 years, capping off a matchup between the nation's top two undefeated teams. The play, which has since been dubbed 'Invincibowl,' was recently ranked No. 3 on ESPN's list of the top 25 college football plays of the 21st century. 'Trailing in the Rose Bowl with a national championship on the line, the Longhorns faced fourth-and-5 in the waning seconds against the Trojans, the defending national champs. But Young scrambled right, then dashed past the pylon for the game-winning touchdown, lifting the unbeaten Longhorns to their first national title in 35 years,' wrote ESPN's Jake Trotter. Only two plays outranked Young's legendary dash: Auburn's 'kick-six' in the 2013 Iron Bowl and Boise State's trick-play finish in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Two other Texas-related moments also made ESPN's list, though both ended in heartbreak for the Longhorns: Michael Crabtree's game-winner for Texas Tech in 2008 (No. 6) and Oklahoma's 'Superman' interception in 2001 (No. 9). Young's performance was as historic as the moment itself. The consensus All-American threw for 267 yards, rushed for 200 more, and scored three touchdowns on the ground. His decisive run not only delivered a championship to Texas but also led to the retirement of his No. 10 jersey in 2008. Young is now serving as a special advisor to the athletic director and mentor to the football team. His responsibilities include working closely with head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff, focusing on player development, mental resilience, and leadership training. Young's presence is also expected to bolster Texas' recruiting efforts, leveraging his championship pedigree and deep ties to the program to help attract top talent. Athletic Director Chris Del Conte emphasized Young's impact, saying, 'His insight, his experience, and his love for this program will be invaluable as we step into a new era." Young is already making his mark at practices, where his motivational style and high expectations have energized players and coaches alike. He is frequently seen on the sidelines, offering tough love and accountability. He plays a highly visible role during recruiting weekends and on Texas gamedays.

Who was the best 5-star quarterback of the 21st century: Tim Tebow or Vince Young?
Who was the best 5-star quarterback of the 21st century: Tim Tebow or Vince Young? It is a well-known fact that the quarterback is the most important position in football, so it stands to reason that college football programs put a great deal of focus on the player they put under center. But there is only so much talent that can be distributed over the 100-plus schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision Last month, the Athletic's Antonio Morales undertook the task of ranking every 5-star quarterback recruit of the past 25 years — a list that includes 61 total passers who earned the top rating. Among those mentioned was the Florida Gators' legendary two-time national champion Tim Tebow, who edged out Texas Longhorns stud Vince Young for the top spot in the rankings. Two other players who passed through Gainesville were listed among the top 20 as well, while another pair landed in the middle of the pack. No. 1 Tim Tebow (2006) "Tebow was a key contributor during the Gators' national title run as a true freshman in 2006, won the Heisman in 2007, led Florida to a national championship in 2008 and finished in the top five of Heisman voting while leading the Gators to a 13-1 record and top-five finish in 2009. He accounted for 145 total touchdowns, passed for 9,285 yards and rushed for 2,947," Morales begins. "That's the sort of career any fan base dreams of for a five-star quarterback." No. 3 Cam Newton (2007) "The 2010s were defined by super teams with elite rosters that won national championships, such as Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and LSU. Auburn was an exception thanks to Newton, who blended skill, size, power and athleticism to post an all-time season in which he accounted for 51 touchdowns, won the Heisman and led the Tigers to a national title," Morales notes. "One player can't carry a team to a national championship, but Newton came about as close as possible. He didn't have a single skill player drafted. Only tackles Brandon Mosley (fourth round) and Lee Ziemba (seventh round) were picked on the O-line. The entire starting defense had only two players drafted," he continues. "Newton's 2010 campaign is the most impressive individual season from any player on this list." No. 13 Chris Leak (2003) "While those two reside among the top three in Morales' rankings, there is still another member of the Orange and Blue who was mentioned: Chris Leak," Morales declares. "Leak was the No. 2 quarterback in his class and was a major recruiting win for Florida in 2003. Even though Tebow is remembered more, Leak was the primary quarterback on a team that won the national championship."
