22-yr-old stabbed in Jaipur, 7 held

A day after a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death in Jaipur over an old enmity, the police on Monday arrested the prime accused following a brief encounter after the latter attempted to escape arrest by snatching the service revolver of a policeman, officials said. Six others were also arrested. The prime accused, identified as Anas Khan, sustained a gunshot wound on his leg after the police opened fire to stop him from escaping. The victim, identified as Vipin Nayak alias Vicky, was stabbed to death in Jamdoli area on Sunday night around 9:30 PM, triggering panic and outrage in the locality. According to officials, Khan and his aides had confronted Vipin, with whom he had a long-standing feud, near the latter's house in the Paldi Meena area. As a heated argument broke out between the two, Khan stabbed Vipin multiple times on the chest before fleeing from the spot. Vipin's sister, who saw her brother being stabbed, rushed out after hearing his screams. Vipin was immediately rushed to SMS Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The postmortem could not be conducted as the family members did not give their consent, sources said. Soon after the incident, Khan posted on social media saying 'Revenge is complete,' though the post was later deleted. In response to the murder, protests erupted on Monday with locals and family members blocking the Dausa-Agra Highway demanding justice. However, police managed to convince the protesters to shift to the service lane. The family demanded Rs 50 lakh as compensation, a government job for one of the kin, the suspension of Jamdoli Police Station SHO, and trial in a fast-track court. Authorities have assured them that the demands would be forwarded to senior officials. DCP Tejaswini Gautam confirmed that Khan and six others were arrested within hours. DIG Rameshwar Singh, while speaking to The Indian Express, said that the arrests were made within 14 hours of the incident. He added that the motive behind the killing appears to stem out from personal rivalry, though the exact reasons are still being investigated. Police forces from nearby stations were deployed to maintain order in the aftermath of the killing.
