Cong accuses pvt schools of exploiting parents, inquiry ordered
Bhopal: The Bhopal district administration on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into alleged malpractice by private schools following a complaint by Congress spokesperson Vivek Tripathi, who accused several prominent educational institutions of forcing parents to buy overpriced books, uniforms and stationery from specific shops. At a public hearing at the Collector's office, Tripathi highlighted how these schools coerce parents to purchase uniforms, books, and stationery at inflated prices from specific shops. He noted these establishments lack proper registration and fail to provide GST bills, indicating a commission-based system that evades taxation, transforming education into an illicit enterprise. The grievance detailed how these institutions force parents to buy uniforms, books, and stationery at higher prices from designated shops. "These shops operate without proper registration and do not issue GST bills. The system functions on commission-based dealings and tax evasion, turning education into an unlawful business," said Tripathi. During the proceedings, Tripathi requested authorities to implement measures similar to those in Jabalpur, where police complaints were registered against educational offenders. He stressed that these activities violate educational rights guaranteed by the constitution and impact parents' financial situation through school-shop collaborations. ADM Nidhi Chouksey responded decisively, reprimanding the district education officer and directing an immediate inquiry based on the evidence presented. The administration tasked SDM Archana Sharma and district education officer Narendra Ahirwar with the investigation. This represents the first direct action by the Bhopal administration against educational misconduct. Tripathi indicated that the Congress would launch demonstrations if suitable action was not taken swiftly.
