National Flag Burnt At Bhopal Garbage Dump, Viral Video Prompts Probe
Police in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal began a probe on Saturday after a viral video showed several Tricolours being burnt at a garbage dump.
A Congress delegation led by party spokesperson Vivek Tripathi and BJP ward 50 corporator Sushma Babisha approached police demanding strict action against those involved.
Vivek Tripathi blamed civic staffers for the incident, which took place at a waste dump near the office of ward 50 where the civic body burns garbage.
"Two complaints have been received in connection with the burning of flags. CCTV footage from the area is being checked as part of our probe to establish the identity of those involved," said Shahpura police station sub inspector Harish Gujarbos.

Surya questions BMRCL over Metro yellow line delay
Bengalur: BharatiyaJanata Party MP Tejasvi Surya has once again raised strong objection to the repeated delays in launching the commercial operations of Bengaluru's much-awaited Yellow Line. The MP, along with several BJP leaders and supporters, staged a protest near Lalbagh on July 5, demanding immediate commencement of operations. The protest, organized by the BJP, saw the participation of multiple legislators and parliamentarians, including MLA CK Ramamurthy and MP PC Mohan. The group marched from Lalbagh East Gate towards the BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) MD's office, voicing frustration over the repeated postponement of the launch of yellow line. Addressing the protestors, Tejasvi Surya said, 'Metro and buses are vital public transport systems. But the key yellow line connecting south Bengaluru to Electronic City has not opened even after four years of delay. It was scheduled to begin in 2021, and even now, there's no clarity.' He further questioned the BMRCL on the recent 100% hike in Metro fares, asking why such an increase was implemented without transparency. 'Where is the fare revision report? The public deserves to know. BMRCL must make the fare determination committee's report public,' Surya demanded. BMRCL MD Maheshwar Rao had previously stated that the yellow line is expected to be operational by August 15, but growing public discontent is mounting pressure on the authorities. Police had deployed KSRP vehicles and security personnel to manage the protest and ensure order as hundreds marched protesting the delays. The BJP has accused the BMRCL of inefficiency and is pressing for greater accountability, especially with the yellow llne considered critical for decongesting the city's southern tech corridor.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state currently has 10 per cent forest cover and the goal is to raise it to 16 per cent. 'The campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' that we started in alignment with the Prime Minister's vision on World Environment Day - June 5, 2025, is achieving new heights of success. On June 29, this campaign moved ahead, and on July 9, it will achieve a new height when 37 crore saplings will be planted across Uttar Pradesh... I am happy that the 210 crore tree plantation programs were successfully completed in 8 years. We now have 10 per cent forest cover. We should aim for 16% of forest cover in Uttar Pradesh, which will equal the country's 16% population living in the state,' CM Yogi Adityanath said. He further said that PM Modi has decided that India will achieve the target of Net Zero in Carbon Emissions, and the government has made several transformations in this regard. 'In 2017, when we had to conduct a plantation drive, we could hardly obtain five crore saplings from the nurseries of the forest department. In 2025, we have 52 crore saplings - and are not of Eucalyptus or Popular but neem, mango, peepal,' he said. 'I am happy that PM Modi's campaign to protect the environment by planting saplings - under 'Ek ped maa ke naam' campaign has been successful and to give it a newer heights, on July 9, a record number of saplings - over 37 crore will be planted in a single day,' he added.
