Anna Wintour to exit Vogue-what's next for the fashion powerhouse?

Fashion connoisseur and aficionado Anna Wintour has announced that she will be stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue. Wintour has been at the helm of the esteemed publication for 37 years. Wintour's tenure is synonymous with excellence. Vogue US has become a bastion for high fashion, and the vaunted publication has been a pivotal force in displaying the works of some of the world's best. The cultural impact and significance of Vogue are hard to overlook. The pride of Hampstead, London, is famed for pushing the envelope. Her emphasis on showcasing political figures and the now infamous and daring move to feature denim on the cover of a couture magazine have endeared her to her fans and lovers of fashion. These choices and others also saw to it that the Vogue was at the epicentre of the zeitgeist in the realm of fashion. The Met Gala could also be considered one of the best brand extensions of all time by any publication, anywhere. The event has become a fixture on the fashion calendar. It is also arguably one of the more momentous events centred around style. Her legendary run began in 1988. Wintour's vision for the brand saw her propel it to new heights. Vogue became a global brand and an iron-clad authority on fashion. The 75-year-old revealed her intentions to step down at an editorial meeting on Thursday. She explained to her team that she was now ready for the next phase of her career, which is to raise new talent. She said: 'My greatest pleasure now is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas.' Wintour has been a tour de force in the fashion industry. Naturally her departure will be gradual in some respects. She will no longer be involved in the daily operations of the business but will stay on as Vogue's international editorial director. A successor has yet to be announced, and Wintour has left some stylish and yet rather big shoes to fill. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 11. Power, bullying and racism: Anna Wintour's reign over fashion ends

Anna Wintour's legacy in the fashion world is one of ice-cold precision, iron-fisted control, and ruthless ambition. The exit of Anna Wintour from the helm of Vogue US is, in the eyes of many, long overdue. Her departure as editor-in-chief of Vogue US, after 37 years, may be framed as a transition, but for those who have endured her wrath, it feels more like the lifting of a long dark shadow. Her departure comes not as a graceful retirement, but as a calculated pivot - still clinging tightly to power while offering a token gesture to the next generation. Wintour's legacy in the fashion world is one of ice-cold precision, iron-fisted control, and ruthless ambition. Far from being simply a powerful editor, she has become synonymous with fear. Often described as bullying, racist, and emotionally void, Wintour has broken spirits, stunted careers, and discarded people with unnerving ease. The Devil Wears Prada Wintour, widely believed to have inspired the character Miranda Priestly in 'The Devil Wears Prada', announced that a new editorial role would be created at Vogue US. 'I want to help the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas,' she reportedly told staff. Yet, true to form, she added that she would still be holding onto many of her current responsibilities – making it clear she's not letting go without a fight. 'It goes without saying that I plan to remain Vogue's tennis and theatre editor in perpetuity,' she declared. Her toxic presence has been so pervasive that when director David Frankel made 'The Devil Wears Prada', the fashion industry recoiled in fear. Designers refused to work with the production, terrified of angering Wintour. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna admitted she struggled to find anyone willing to speak to her. 'People were afraid of Anna and Vogue, not wanting to be blackballed,' she explained. The fear was so widespread that they struggled to secure iconic locations like the Met and Bryant Park in New York.

Who Will Inherit the Crown? Fashion Media After Anna Wintour

Photo credit should read: Andrew Matthews/PA Wire There are few names in fashion that carry the weight — and reverence — of Anna Wintour. For nearly four decades, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue US has served as both arbiter and oracle, shaping not only what we wear, but how we understand fashion itself. Today, that chapter turned. On June 26, Condé Nast confirmed that Wintour would be stepping down from her position at Vogue US after 37 years, while continuing in her roles as Global Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director of Vogue . The news, while not entirely unexpected, is reverberating through the industry like the final click of a stiletto heel on a marble floor. Because while Wintour is not leaving fashion altogether, her shift away from day-to-day oversight of American Vogue represents more than a personal change. It marks the symbolic close of fashion's most influential editorial reign — and prompts a long-overdue conversation about where the industry goes from here. The Wintour Effect Anna Wintour (Photo by Ron Galella/Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) Since 1988, Wintour's tenure at Vogue US has been nothing short of transformative. She championed supermodels before they were super, put celebrities on the covers of fashion magazines before it was cool (hello, Kim and Kanye), and turned the Met Gala into the industry's most exclusive night out. Her signature bob and sunglasses became shorthand for fashion authority. But legacy can be a double-edged sword. In recent years, Vogue — like many legacy publications — has struggled to retain its once-unshakable hold on fashion's zeitgeist. Digital disruptors, TikTok-native editors, and audience-led trend cycles have ushered in a more democratic era of style influence. The rules have changed. What the Industry Needs Now LONDON, ENGLAND – DECEMBER 02: Tom Ford, winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award, and Dame Anna Wintour pose backstage at The Fashion Awards 2024 presented by Pandora at Royal Albert Hall on December 2, 2024 in London, England. (Photo by) With Wintour's departure from the Vogue US helm, the question isn't just who will replace her — it's what kind of leadership fashion media needs next. Will it be a bold Gen Z editor who understands social-first storytelling and inclusivity? A digital strategist with a background in audience data? Or a creative director with an eye for cultural fusion and international markets? There's no single answer. But there is a growing consensus: fashion's next era requires more than prestige. It demands relevance, representation, and radical reinvention. A Global Shift LONDON, ENGLAND – MARCH 08: Alex Scott joins Pandora and Grazia for an event in celebration of International Women's Day at Carousel London on March 08, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by) Interestingly, Wintour's retention of her global titles hints at where the real power lies now — on the international stage. With Vogue editions in Mexico, France, India, and beyond producing some of the most dynamic content in the brand's portfolio, it's clear that fashion's future is borderless. At GRAZIA , we've always embraced that global mindset — with editions across the US, Italy, UK, and beyond, our mission has been to amplify fresh voices, champion new talent, and redefine what fashion means today. The Opportunity for Change MILAN, ITALY – FEBRUARY 26: Sarah Jessica Parker, Delfina Delettrez-Fendi and Elizabeth Olsen are seen front row at the Fendi fashion show during Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Fall/Winter 2025/2026 on February 26, 2025 in Milan, Italy. (Photo byfor Fendi) Wintour's pivot may be the most high-profile, but it's part of a larger shift: editors no longer rule from ivory towers. Today's audience wants honesty over aspiration, depth over gloss. They want to be part of the conversation, not just observers. This transition presents an opportunity for fashion media to reshape itself — not in Wintour's image, but in the image of a changing world. What will fill the void she leaves behind? Hopefully, a chorus of new voices: digital-native editors, diverse storytellers, and innovative platforms that reimagine fashion not just as an industry, but as a reflection of identity, politics, and culture. Final Thoughts PARIS, FRANCE – MARCH 04: Anna Wintour attends the 'Le Grand Diner du Louvre' Passage Richelieu Photocall at Musee du Louvre on March 04, 2025 in Paris, France. (Photo by Pascal) Anna Wintour may no longer be the editor-in-chief of Vogue US , but her shadow — and influence — will linger. Still, in the space she leaves behind, there's room for something new. This is a rare moment for reinvention. The fashion world is watching — and so are we. topics: future of fashion, Anna Wintour, Vogue, Fashion news

As Anna Wintour Shifts Her Focus at Condé Nast, Vogue US Will Seek a New Editorial Lead

This morning, Anna Wintour shared with Vogue staff that the title would soon be seeking a head of editorial content. While Wintour will continue in her roles as Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast—overseeing editorial for brands including WIRED, Vanity Fair, GQ, AD, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, Bon Appétit, Tatler, World of Interiors, Allure, Teen Vogue, Ars Technica, and Them globally—as well as Global Editorial Director for Vogue, Vogue US's new head of editorial content will lead the magazine's daily operations across platforms. The person who fills that role will report directly to Wintour, in keeping with the heads of editorial content at all Vogues. Over the last four years, Wintour's role at Condé Nast has vastly expanded, her remit across the company's global titles growing alongside her work editing Vogue US and overseeing events including Vogue World and the Met Gala. In effect, the addition of a new editorial lead for Vogue US will allow Wintour greater time and flexibility to support the other global markets that Condé Nast serves. 'Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one's work. When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine,' Wintour told Vogue staff in a meeting on Thursday. 'Now, I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be. And that is exactly the kind of person we need to now look for to be HOC for US Vogue.' She went on to add that on a practical level, many of her responsibilities at Vogue would remain the same, 'including paying very close attention to the fashion industry and to the creative cultural force that is our extraordinary Met Ball, and charting the course of future Vogue Worlds, and any other original fearless ideas we may come up with…and it goes without saying that I plan to remain Vogue's tennis and theater editor in perpetuity.

Pamela Anderson Steps Out in Showgirl-Worthy Style at the Met Gala 2025

Pamela Anderson has had quite a year. First, the 57-year-old star's career-defining turn as veteran Las Vegas dancer Shelly in Gia Coppola's The Last Showgirl got rave reviews and earned her a Golden Globe nomination; now, with the chaos of awards season behind her, Anderson is ready to celebrate the first Monday in May with her oldest son Brandon Thomas Lee by her side. Anderson hit the red carpet at the 2025 Met Gala with Lee, a producer and actor known for his roles in TV shows and movies including Cosmic Sin and Sierra Burgess is a Loser. (Anderson's younger son, Dylan Jagger Lee, is also a model and musician.) Anderson wore an ice-blue silk mesh Tory Burch gown embroidered with twisted silver sequins and a mix of scattered crystals, and in a nod to the night's Tailored for You dress code, the dress's silhouette was tailored from the inside out using traditional menswear techniques. Lee wore a custom tuxedo by Genuardi. Anderson and Lee's professional collaboration didn't begin and end with the Met Gala, of course; Lee was credited as an executive producer on The Last Showgirl , telling Variety in December 2024 of his involvement with the film: 'My personal mission was to give my mom the opportunities she gave me as a child. She would do anything for me. She showed up and was a very good mother.' Hopefully, we'll have many more projects (not to mention red-carpet looks) coming our way from Pamela Anderson & Sons in the future. Article originally published on Vogue US
