Youth claims trial to raping teenage girlfriend

The Kota Kinabalu Court Complex. KOTA KINABALU (July 8): A 19-year-old unemployed youth claimed trial in a Sessions Court here to raping his teenage girlfriend. Eryidley Jarry, who appeared before judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, was accused of raping the 14-year-old girl inside a car parked at the roadside in Tuaran at 1am on June 25. The alleged offence was under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. The court set August 8 to re-mention the case and released Eryidley on RM6,000 bail with two local sureties. Eryidley, who was unrepresented, was ordered to report to a nearest police station once a month and to surrender his passport, if any, to the court, pending disposal of his case. He was unrepresented. In an unrelated case, a company was fined by another Sessions Court here for separate charges of allowing illegal immigrants to remain in premises. Judge Hurman Hussain fined the company RM15,000 after its representative admitted to give permission for undocumented Indonesians to be at a factory in Ranau on October 24, 2023. The offence was under Section 55E (1) of the Immigration Act 19563.

Two men jump from second floor in failed bid to escape immigration raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men jumped from the second floor of a shophouse in an attempt to evade arrest, while others faked unconsciousness during an Immigration Department raid here last night. Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said their tactics proved futile as 60 immigrants were rounded up in the operation. One of the two Bangladeshis who leapt from the building pretended to have broken his leg, while others claimed to have applied for a card from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), he said. He said 28 officers were involved in the "Op Selera" and "Op Kutip" operations from 10pm to 2am, at a food court and two shophouses. "A total of 137 individuals were screened, and 60 were detained, comprising 17 Indonesian men, 20 Indonesian women, 18 Myanmar men, one Myanmar woman, three Bangladeshi men and one Pakistani man. "In the first raid at a food court on Jalan Cheras, 16 foreigners were detained; 30 in the second raid in Pudu; and 14 in the final raid at a shophouse on Jalan Raja Laut in Chow Kit," he added. All the suspects were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for further action under Section 6(1)(c) or Section 15(1)(c). One Immigration Form 29 (Witness Summons) was also issued during the operation. – BERNAMA
