Dubai Police arrest young man for recklessly driving at high speed on the hard shoulder

Following reckless behavior that endangered others, Dubai Police apprehended a young Asian man who was captured on video driving dangerously, overtaking vehicles on the shoulder at high speed, putting both his life and the lives of other road users at serious risk. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, stated that traffic patrols promptly initiated an investigation after the footage showed the driver operating his vehicle at excessive and unsafe speeds. He stated that such dangerous behaviors reflect a clear violation of the law and demonstrate disregard for human lives, stressing that sharing these videos encourages others to replicate this reckless behavior and contributes to an increase in dangerous driving incidents. Furthermore, Al Mazrouei pointed out that this conduct constitutes a serious traffic violation and can inadvertently lead teenagers and those unaware of the risks to engage in similar actions. He emphasized that disseminating such content harms the community and undermines efforts to promote traffic safety awareness. Additionally, Al Mazrouei mentioned that the specialized teams in the General Department of Traffic swiftly identified and apprehended the driver, taking necessary legal actions, under Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning vehicle impoundment, which slaps violators with a fine of AED 50,000 to release an impounded vehicle. 'The driver was subsequently referred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings,' he continued. He indicated that statistics show that this behaviour endangers both riders and pedestrians, noting that at least 80 per cent of violators have been involved in severe traffic accidents, resulting in many fatalities and serious injuries. Al Mazrouei assured the public that the police would not tolerate such violations, prioritising the safety of all road users. He urged the community to report dangerous behaviours via the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling the 'We Are All Police' hotline at 901. Al Mazrouei indicated that fostering a safe traffic environment is a shared responsibility that necessitates cooperation between the community and relevant authorities. He stated that Dubai Police will continue leveraging the latest technologies and intelligent systems to monitor violators and maintain road safety 24/7.

VIDEO: Dubai Police summon young biker for performing dangerous stunts at excessive speed

Dubai Police summoned a reckless young man who appeared in a viral video on social media, riding his motorcycle at dangerously high speeds. The motorist was seen recklessly overtaking vehicles and performing risky stunts, which constituted a blatant violation of traffic laws and posed a direct threat to his life and the lives of others. Major General Saif Mahir Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commandant for Operations at Dubai Police, stated that a specialized team reporting dangerous violations tracked the motorist after two video clips circulated online. "In these videos, he was shown riding two different motorcycles at high speeds during separate incidents. In one clip, he dangerously weaved between vehicles. At the same time, in another, he rode without using the handlebars, reflecting a serious disregard for traffic rules and the safety of other road users," he added. Al Mazrouei mentioned that the young man tried to disguise his identity and that of the motorcycles to evade capture. "However, specialized security teams, utilizing advanced technologies and their expertise, successfully identified and apprehended him," he continued. Al Mazrouei also pointed out that the motorist has been referred to the relevant authorities for legal action, and the motorcycle has been impounded under Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning vehicle impoundment, which sets the release fee for an impounded vehicle at AED 50,000. He further mentioned that such actions violate public order and demonstrate a blatant disregard for human lives. Al Mazrouei emphasized that Dubai Police takes these behaviors very seriously, especially since statistics reveal that over 80% of individuals committing such violations have been involved in serious accidents that resulted in fatalities and severe injuries. He stressed that those who ride motorcycles illegally endanger themselves and others, facing strict legal consequences. Al Mazrouei assured the public that the police would not tolerate such violations, prioritising the safety of all road users. Dubai Police seize 23 vehicles for tampering with number plates

Gulf Today, Staff Reporter Dubai Police seized 23 vehicles last year, as their drivers deliberately obscured or changed the features of the number plates with the aim of deceiving the control devices and traffic cameras and hence trying to evade traffic fines. According to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, Dubai Police possess modern smart technologies and police officers are highly experienced in detecting any attempts to obscure or change the features of number plates. Closely monitoring internal and external roads to detect these violations, Dubai Police detected vehicles whose drivers deliberately used chemical materials to cover the numbers, while others bent the plates or added stickers that prevented the identification of their numbers, he said. A young man was arrested after he appeared in a video clip that went viral on social media, deliberately removing his vehicle's number plate and committing serious traffic violations including running a red light, exceeding the speed limit, causing chaos and showing off, he added, noting that his speed exceeded 190 km/h. Another driver was caught spraying a chemical substance to hide part of his plate numbers to appear as two-digit numbers, he said, adding that the vehicles were seized and a fine of Dhs50,000 would have to be paid to release them in accordance with the provisions of decree no. 30 for 2023 regarding impoundment of vehicles. He added that Dubai Police deal strictly with manipulators, noting that such actions are listed under fraud and are consequently turned from mere traffic violations into criminal cases. Al Mazrouei called on the public to co-operate with the police in monitoring such negative behaviors and reporting them via the Police Eye service on the Dubai Police app on smartphones or by calling the We Are All Police initiative on 901.
