Dubai Police arrest young man for recklessly driving at high speed on the hard shoulder

Gulf Today4 days ago
Following reckless behavior that endangered others, Dubai Police apprehended a young Asian man who was captured on video driving dangerously, overtaking vehicles on the shoulder at high speed, putting both his life and the lives of other road users at serious risk.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, stated that traffic patrols promptly initiated an investigation after the footage showed the driver operating his vehicle at excessive and unsafe speeds.
He stated that such dangerous behaviors reflect a clear violation of the law and demonstrate disregard for human lives, stressing that sharing these videos encourages others to replicate this reckless behavior and contributes to an increase in dangerous driving incidents. Furthermore, Al Mazrouei pointed out that this conduct constitutes a serious traffic violation and can inadvertently lead teenagers and those unaware of the risks to engage in similar actions. He emphasized that disseminating such content harms the community and undermines efforts to promote traffic safety awareness.
Additionally, Al Mazrouei mentioned that the specialized teams in the General Department of Traffic swiftly identified and apprehended the driver, taking necessary legal actions, under Decree No. 30 of 2023 concerning vehicle impoundment, which slaps violators with a fine of AED 50,000 to release an impounded vehicle. 'The driver was subsequently referred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings,' he continued.
He indicated that statistics show that this behaviour endangers both riders and pedestrians, noting that at least 80 per cent of violators have been involved in severe traffic accidents, resulting in many fatalities and serious injuries.
Al Mazrouei assured the public that the police would not tolerate such violations, prioritising the safety of all road users. He urged the community to report dangerous behaviours via the 'Police Eye' feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling the 'We Are All Police' hotline at 901.
Al Mazrouei indicated that fostering a safe traffic environment is a shared responsibility that necessitates cooperation between the community and relevant authorities. He stated that Dubai Police will continue leveraging the latest technologies and intelligent systems to monitor violators and maintain road safety 24/7.
