Mizzou Hoops Lands Commitment of 2027 Top-30 Recruit
Mizzou Hoops Lands Commitment of 2027 Top-30 Recruit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Missouri Tigers have earned an early start to their recruiting class of 2027 as four-star point guard Scottie Adkinson has committed to the Mizzou squad, according to Joe Tipton. The 6-foot-2 rising junior attends Webster Groves High in Saint Louis, MO. As a sophomore, Adkinson fueled Webster Groves to a 22-5 overall record, 6-0 in district play and they won the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 5 state title. Advertisement Adkinson is ranked as the No. 26 overall player in the 2027 class, according to On3. He's also the third-best combo guard in the country, the No. 6 point guard and the No. 2 player in Missouri, behind only Link Academy point guard Davin Thompson. The St. Louis native also received offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Adkinson visited Columbia on unofficial visits several times this past year, most recently on June 20, so it's not a huge surprise to see the recruit make an early decision. Missouri's staff has gotten significant face time in with Adkinson since giving him an offer on Sep. 18, 2023, and they made several trips to Webster Groves High School to watch his games and practices. The 2027 class rankings have only been out for a few months, but he's already made a clear name for himself. New push at state capitol to merge St. Louis City and County
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – After the failure of an organization that sought to merge St. Louis City with St. Louis County, a Democratic lawmaker from the county is seeking to once again bring the issue of St. Louis regionalism back to the agenda of legislators at the Missouri Capitol. State Rep. Ian Mackey, D-St. Louis County, introduced House Joint Resolution 27 earlier this session. The bill, which mirrors the approach taken by the now-inactive Better Together organization that fought to unite the county and its close to 90 municipalities with the independent city of St. Louis. Similar to the Civil War-era policies surrounding the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the great divorce between the two St. Louis governmental bodies is another example of old-time practices that have been debated without much action for as long as people reading this have been alive. It was St. Louis City, then a much more vibrant economy, which broke away from the County in a narrow vote in 1876. Since then, St. Louis has been an independent city. Outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there are only two other independent cities in the United States: Baltimore and Carson City, Nevada. At a Wednesday House hearing, Chairman Rep. Brad Christ, a Republican also from St. Louis County, reiterated that he was not going to pass this bill out of committee this year. However, he acknowledged that he is always willing to have conversations about the future of the St. Louis region. 'You're O-U-T, out!' says legal expert in FOX 2's findings on St. Louis Sheriff Mackey, serving his last term in a district that includes Clayton, Ladue, Warson Woods, and Olivette, said St. Louis is the economic driver of the state, but it's not one municipality that drives it—it's the region. 'Indianapolis and Louisville are common examples of cities in our region that have done this,' Mackey said. 'And it's a large state involvement.' While no one testified in favor of Mackey's bill, Wednesday's hearing did bring out opponents, including at least one mayor. 'I think what Webster Groves would say [is that] we are very closely tied to the future of the metropolitan area,' Mayor Laura Arnold said. The Webster Groves mayor said, at the end of the day, the devil is in the details. 'And I'm not sure what those details are at this point, because we have not really taken time to go back and look at the criticism of Better Together and see what a new framework would look like,' she said. Many STL events cancelled due to unpredictable weather
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Fish Fry at Our lady of the Pillar Catholic Church was a go Friday evening. Due to the incoming weather, crowds started to ramp up 30 minutes before the event even began, which was set for 4:30 p.m. John Mueller, chairman of the Fish Fry, said they have been cooking and setting up all day for this highly anticipated weekly event. All in all, they do 7 Fish Fry Fridays because they also plan to host on Good Friday. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Mueller also said that in his 20 years of helping with the Fish Frys, they've only had to evacuate one time, which was for the Good Friday tornado in 2011. On that evening, they evacuated the dining area and everyone took shelter in the school's hallway. Organizers plan to have everyone home safe ahead of the storms and those attending early say that was part of their motivation. 'We watched the weather earlier in the week. We're expecting an early crowd,' Mueller said. 'We're open from 4:30 to 7:30 and I believe the forecast said stuff was going to start around 7 or 8. We expect again (an) early crowd and hopefully we're all out of here.' One local who was out today in the windy weather was Mike Schwarz. Many STL events cancelled due to unpredictable weather 'Yeah, after 7 o'clock tonight it sounds like it's going to get pretty bad but we'll be home and in our jammies by then,' Schwarz said. Many events were canceled Friday evening. Webster Groves postponed their state sectional basketball game until tomorrow afternoon. Parkway School District also canceled all activities after 5:30 p.m., and the St. Louis Zoo canceled their Animals Aglow event. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
