Bose's latest Ultra earbuds have some AI-powered tricks for navigating your noisy world
Bose TL;DR Bose has announced the successor to its premium QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds. The second-gen QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds offer enhanced ANC, improved voice pickup, and wireless charging support. The earbuds are priced at $299 and will be available in Black, White Smoke, and Deep Plum colorways. Bose expanded its premium headphone and earbud lineup with the launch of new Ultra models back in 2023. Its original QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are still among the best wireless earbuds on the market, but the company has now announced an upgraded model that brings some noteworthy improvements to the table. The new Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) may not look much different, but they promise better adaptive noise cancelation and voice pickup than the older model. The earbuds utilize an updated AI algorithm layered on top of Bose's proprietary CustomTune sound calibration technology to improve the ActiveSense experience in Aware Mode, offer a smoother transition between noise cancelation levels, and prevent audio content from being drowned out by environmental noises. Bose has also equipped the second-gen earbuds with a new AI-powered noise suppression system to improve voice pickup with the eight built-in microphones. In addition, the earbuds leverage Bose's audio augmentation technology to further reduce background noise. Unlike the previous model, the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) support wireless charging out of the box. However, Bose hasn't upgraded the battery. The earbuds are still rated for up to 6 hours of playback on a single charge without ANC and 4 hours with ANC enabled. The charging case offers up to three additional charges, with Bose claiming it provides up to 2 hours of playback with a 20-minute charge. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) will be available later this summer for $299 in three colorways: black, White Smoke, and a limited-edition Deep Plum. Along with the flagship earbuds, Bose has announced two Bluetooth speakers: the SoundLink Plus Portable speaker and the SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker (2nd Gen). The SoundLink Plus is priced at $269 and will be available in Black, Blue Dusk, and Citrus Yellow colorways starting June 26. Today, Bose is announcing three new products that sound as if they won't disappoint. First up from Bose launch is the new QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds. This is the next-gen version of Bose's flagship wireless and noise-cancelling earbuds, the QuietComfort Ultras. This latest version includes a suite of compelling updates that are designed to boost the user's listening experience. With new and improved AI algorithms that enhance the ActiveSense function, the new earbuds are now better at filtering out any sudden noise spikes to produce a smoother adaptive noise cancellation. Most ANC earbuds are pretty good at cutting out unwanted sounds like road noise, aircraft engines or the constant hum of an air conditioner. With these new algorithms, Bose says the QC Ultra will be able to cope with sudden sounds while also offering improved voice pickup and call quality. These new wireless earphones have an IPX4 rating and can play for up to six hours on a single charge of the earbuds' batteries, although that figure dips to four hours if the immersive audio feature is turned on. The storage case can now be charged wirelessly as well as via the usual USB-C port. The Bose QC Ultra support Bluetooth Core 5.4 Multipoint connectivity, which means they can work with two source devices connected at the same time. There is support for both SBC and AAC codecs, making them compatible with most Bluetooth streaming devices including iPhones and Android. The overall size is large enough to create a robust bass response but small enough to go almost anywhere. The Bose SoundLink Plus has a single subwoofer, plus a tweeter and four passive radiators to create that big bass sound. The new speaker can float on water and comes with a rugged utility nylon rope attached to its side. This makes it easy to pick out of the pool or to clip onto something else like a tent pole or the branch of a nearby tree. The new speaker has a powder-coated steel grille and a coating of soft-touch silicone material that makes it durable and able to take a bit of a beating. The battery can hold enough juice from a single charge to play for up to 20 hours before it needs topping up. The battery has so much capacity that it can function as a power bank for charging devices like smartphones using the speaker's bi-directional USB-C charging port. The third and final new product announced by Bose today is the second iteration of the company's popular and compact SoundLink Micro speaker. Measuring 103mm square and just 39mm deep, this miniature Bluetooth speaker delivers a sound that's loud enough while still projecting enough bass.
