Heading to Key West but don't want to drive? Spirit starting FLL flights
Long-time low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is adding a destination to paradise as it continues the journey to remake itself. The Broward-based airline known for bright yellow planes will offer year-round flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Key West International Airport for the first time. On Nov. 6, Spirit will launch four weekly flights, on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Daily flights will begin on Dec. 18. Fares start at $79 one-way for trips booked by Nov. 19. Tickets are now available on the airline's website. Spirit is betting on a route that brings together two of the Sunshine State's most popular locales. Fort Lauderdale boasts popular beaches, a renovated pier, growing airport, booming port and influx of youth. The Florida Keys continue to see sky-high demand from tourists all over the world. While Miami — the city and its hotels — was shut out of the 2025 World's Best issue of Travel + Leisure, the Florida Keys ranked eighth among best islands in the continental United States. 'Spirit Airlines entering the Key West market this November is fantastic news for our passengers near and far,' Richard Strickland, executive director of airports at Key West International Airport, said in a statement. 'We welcome this addition to our selection of carriers and greatly anticipate access to Spirit's expansive network of destinations.' Key West will be the eighth destination in Florida that Spirit serves. Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, Tampa and West Palm Beach are the others, along with Fort Lauderdale. The $79 one-way fares are subject to a 21-day advance purchase, valid for booking July 22 through Nov. 19, 2025, and travel from Nov. 6 through Dec. 17, 2025, the airline said. Blackout dates are Nov. 20 to Dec. 2, 2025. The Key West service comes after Spirit announced in July new direct flights between FLL and Macon, Georgia. The airline will have two flights a week beginning Oct. 16, starting at $49.99 one way. Macon is home to the Allman Brothers and Luther Williams Field, the baseball stadium used in '42,' the film about Jackie Robinson's life. A new Spirit Airlines? Beyond tourist attractions, the new flights will also give travelers an early glimpse of the new, slightly more upscale Spirit. In June, the airline started installing a section of seats — seven rows near the front — that have four additional inches of legroom, a total to 32 inches. The majority of its fleet is expected to have this feature by the end of July and all planes will in 2026. Spirit is also getting rid of its middle seats in the premium section. Flights in July are the first ones that offer the new perks. The moves come as Spirit is looking to carve out a market segment in a competitive market following several tough years. It's now taking on the bigger players with its premium offerings. In April, a new president and CEO, Dave Davis, took over. He replaced longtime President and CEO Ted Christie, who resigned April 7 after successfully leading the company through restructuring. On Feb. 20, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York approved the carrier's plan to continue operating as a business, and cleared bankruptcy shortly after. Davis came from Sun Country Airlines, where he was president and chief financial officer and a member of its board of directors since December 2019. He was credited with helping make it one of the most profitable airlines in the U.S., outperforming Spirit and Frontier. Can new cabin names help? Travelers to Key West will also get a chance to try out Spirit's new cabin names that debuted in June: Spirit First (formerly Go Big) ▪ Big front seat/extra legroom ▪ Carry-on and first checked bag free ▪ No change or cancel fees ▪ Priority check-in and boarding ▪ Reserved overhead bin space ▪ Complimentary snacks and drinks ▪ Wi-Fi Premium Economy (formerly Go Comfy) ▪ Extra legroom ▪ No middle seat ▪ One carry-on bag free ▪ No change or cancel fees ▪ Priority boarding ▪ Reserved overhead bin space Value (formerly Go) ▪ One carry-on bag free ▪ Seat selection costs extra ▪ Checked bags purchased separately

Charleston dethroned as No. 1 US travel destination by this Southwest city
When it comes to domestic travel, many Americans have long lusted over the vibrant, Southern, seaside charm of Charleston, South Carolina, but this year, a Southwest hotspot known for its abundant art and food scene has tilted the scale as the top travel destination in the U.S. Santa Fe, New Mexico, has officially been crowned the No. 1 U.S. travel destination by Travel + Leisure, dethroning Charleston after 12 consecutive years atop the list. "Santa Fe taking the top spot this year reflects a growing interest in places that offer something distinctive -- deep cultural roots, natural beauty, and a strong sense of identity," Jess Feldman, special projects editor at Travel + Leisure, told "Good Morning America." "At the same time, Charleston's 12-year run at No. 1 is something we've never seen before, and landing at No. 3 this year is still a huge testament to how much people love it," Feldman added. Feldman explained that this list, which provides a snapshot of the state of travel, "captures not only where people are going, but what they're valuing most along the way." "Readers raved about the inventive New Mexican cuisine and the destination's natural beauty -- sitting at 7,000 feet, Santa Fe is at the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year," Travel + Leisure senior editor Elizabeth Cantrell wrote, revealing the outlet's annual World's Best Awards. From markets to art galleries, visitors and World's Best voters boasted that "every trip [to Santa Fe] exceeds the last, with so many new things to discover," Travel + Leisure reported. The full list had solid representation, with winners all across the country, including Boston at No. 14, San Antonio at No. 12, and Savannah at No. 4. "The other three chosen U.S. cities in the top five have abundant charm, history, and a true sense of place. It's clear that travelers are prioritizing meaningful, culturally rich experiences when deciding where to go," Feldman said. "They want to feel connected to the places they visit." Walkable downtown areas and impressive local cuisine also helped set certain cities above the rest. Top 15 US travel destinations of 2025 From mountain towns to Pacific islands, this year's list had a robust array of beautiful destinations that may be worth adding to your travel vision board. 1. Santa Fe, New Mexico 2. New Orleans, Louisiana 3. Charleston, South Carolina 4. Savannah, Georgia 5. Alexandria, Virginia 6. Honolulu, Hawaii 7. Greenville, South Carolina 8. New York, New York 9. Putrajaya Holdings, Sunway Healthcare to build private hospital in Precinct 7
KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) and Sunway Healthcare Holdings Sdn Bhd (SHH) have signed a heads of agreement to jointly develop a private tertiary medical centre in Precinct 7, Putrajaya. The facility will offer more than 300 beds and advanced specialist services, including a dedicated burns unit. It is expected to serve residents of Putrajaya, the greater southern Klang Valley, and international patients. PjH chief executive officer Datuk Izwan Isli Mohd Ibrahim said Precinct 7 was selected for its connectivity via Putrajaya Sentral and its proximity to medical institutions. This includes Putrajaya Hospital, the National Cancer Institute and the Medical Academies of Malaysia. "This marks a catalytic milestone in Putrajaya's growth journey, and we are excited to collaborate with a trusted partner like Sunway Healthcare to bring this shared vision to life," he said in a joint statement today. SHH group president Datuk Lau Beng Long said the partnership would allow the community better access to comprehensive private healthcare services. "Citing Sunway as recent Malaysia top medical centre ranking in Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2025 list, we will strive to provide excellent facilities and compassionate, patient‑centred medical care," he said. The hospital is part of broader efforts to enhance specialist care infrastructure in the federal administrative capital and support Putrajaya's goal of becoming a regional centre for quality medical services.

Precision Medicine, AI and Smart Exosomes: How Taiwan is Reshaping Global Healthcare
In central Taiwan, one of Asia's most technologically advanced hospitals is setting new standards in precision medicine, digital transformation and biomedical innovation, attracting attention from U.S. clinical researchers and global pharmaceutical partners. Founded in 1958, China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) operates a 2,062-bed facility, managing 200,000 outpatient visits, 11,000 emergency cases and 5,900 surgeries every month. The hospital's consistent innovation has earned it a place on Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals 2023-2024 and World's Best Smart Hospitals 2024-2025. 'Since 2017, we've built a comprehensive digital framework that meets the highest international standards,' says Dr. Wei-Cheng Chen, Chief Secretary of CMUH. The hospital holds four major HIMSS certifications – INFRAM Stage 7, EMRAM Stage 7, AMAM Stage 7 and DIAM Stage 6 – making it the only hospital in Taiwan with this complete set. In 2023, CMUH also topped the Digital Health Indicator, becoming the highest-ranked hospital globally and the only Asian institution to achieve this. This digital infrastructure directly supports CMUH's leadership in CAR-T therapy, medical AI, and exosome research, all areas where the hospital is pushing the boundaries of clinical science. 'We developed the first allogeneic CAR-BiTE GDT therapy for solid tumors, moving beyond liquid cancers into much harder-to-treat areas,' explains Dr. Der-Yang Cho, Superintendent of CMUH. The therapy has already secured FDA approval for clinical trials. Medical AI also plays a central role, supporting diagnostics, risk prediction, and treatment planning across departments. 'From real-time sepsis prediction to AI-assisted ICD coding, our systems help doctors make faster, better decisions every day,' says Chen. Among CMUH's most ambitious innovations is its work with Smart Exosomes, redefining these cellular vesicles as precision drug carriers. 'Our exosomes can deliver DNA, RNA, peptides and proteins directly to targeted organs, from the brain to the heart, enhancing efficacy by up to 90 times while reducing side effects,' says Cho. CMUH's commitment to innovation is reflected in its unmatched 17 awards at the 21st Taiwan National Innovation Awards and 35 honors at the 24th National Healthcare Quality Awards, making it the most awarded hospital in both competitions. 'Following the model of Mayo Clinic, we send our doctors to top 10 global hospitals to master advanced techniques, ensuring that talent drives innovation,' says Cho. 'Talent is very important. We want to lead Taiwan by focusing on both talent and new technology.'
