Chinese national charged with stabbing ex-girlfriend at Malaysian university
A foreign student who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the neck on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur has claimed trial at the sessions court in Shah Alam.
Chinese national You Wei, 22, was accused of causing grievous hurt to Wu Jalin, 20, by using a weapon on the second floor of a private university in Subang Jaya at 6.30pm on July 14.
According to the charge sheet, You stabbed Wu, also a Chinese national, on the left side of her neck with a knife, which could have caused death.
The charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, was read out to him in English before judge Norazlin Othman on Monday.
If convicted, You faces a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or caning.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not propose any bail for the accused pending an Immigration Department review. His passport is valid until October 31, 2026.
In mitigation, You's counsel Revin Kumar said his client had a mental health condition.
