KUNAK: Datuk Yahamad Budin, 74, who served as Persatuan Masyarakat Brunei Kota Kinabalu Branch Chairman, was killed when the Toyota Hiace van he was driving crashed, trapping him in the driver's seat, along Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu, Sunday. Eight passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries in the 7.19am incident. Kunak Fire and Rescue Chief Mohamad Omarbatha said rescue teams used specialised equipment to extract the trapped driver from the wreckage. The accident occurred 40km from the fire station, requiring deployment of fire rescue trucks and emergency medical response vehicles. The eight injured passengers comprising four men and four women aged between 46 and 75 received initial treatment from emergency medical teams and Kunak Hospital paramedics before being transported to the hospital for further care. Police were also present at the scene. The group had been returning to Kota Kinabalu from Semporna after conducting charity programs in Tawau and Semporna over several days. He was driving a Toyota Hiace van when it skidded off the road and crashed, trapping him in the driver's seat. He died at the scene. Eight passengers, aged between 46 and 75, suffered injuries. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the victim. All injured passengers received initial treatment at the scene before being taken to Kunak Hospital.
