PMBS Chairman Killed in Kunak Crash

By: Ibrahim Tabir Text Size: KUNAK: Datuk Yahamad Budin, 74, Chairman of the Brunei Sabah Community Association (PMBS) Kota Kinabalu branch and former Sabah Scouts President, was killed in a crash along the Kunak–Lahad Datu road early Sunday. He was driving a Toyota Hiace van when it skidded off the road and crashed, trapping him in the driver's seat. He died at the scene. Eight passengers, aged between 46 and 75, suffered injuries. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate the victim. All injured passengers received initial treatment at the scene before being taken to Kunak Hospital. LAHAD DATU: Police detained a couple to assist in investigations into the murder of a 23-year-old foreigner, here, on Saturday. Jimmy Panyau said, the victim was found dead with injuries on his back, believed caused by a sharp weapon. 'Acting on information, we have detained a man and woman, both foreigners aged 29 respectively on the same day to assist in investigation. 'The body had been sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem to identify the cause of death,' he said. Tenom: Five victims, including two children, were injured when the Perodua Myvi they were traveling in skidded and fell into a ravine in Tenom Lama road here on Sunday morning. District Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 11.14 am and seven members led by Operations Commander, Mc Lean C Madis rushed to the location with machinery. The three female victims aged between 38 and 55 suffered minor injuries. The children wree helped by members of the public before the department team arrived. Kota Kinabalu: Two state assemblymen and a businessman arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Ops Adun, are reportedly scheduled to be charged today (Monday). In a press invite mailed to the media, the MACC said the trio are expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court here at about 9am. It is understood that they will face a total of four charges under the MACC Act 2009. Two of the charges will be brought under Section 16(b)(A) of the Act for offering bribes, while the other two will be under Section 16(a)(A) for accepting bribes. So far, 15 politicians have been implicated in corrupt activities between 2023 and 2024, in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications. Earlier this month, MACC said it would charge two Sabah assemblymen and a civilian in court this month over a corruption scandal involving the mining licences.
