‘One of the most entertaining Marvel movies ever' is streaming free - but not for long
As yet another Marvel blockbuster hits screens this week, one of the superhero franchise's best entries is available to watch for free BBC iPlayer is currently streaming one of the most beloved films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it won't be on the platform for very long. This small-scale action thriller from 2015 stars one of Hollywood's most beloved comedic actors taking on the role of a reformed criminal who eventually becomes one of the Avengers' most reliable heroes. 10 years on, this groundbreaking superhero film with one of the most unique characters in Marvel's extensive roster is still highly regarded by comic book fans, so it's well worth a rewatch. Unfortunately, Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd, is only available on iPlayer for the next eight days, so viewers have a very limited window to watch this jaw-dropping movie totally free of charge. The action gets started when Scott Lang (played by Rudd) is released from prison and forms an unlikely partnership with Dr Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who is desperate to keep his dangerous shrinking technology from falling into the wrong hands. However, Pym's volatile former protégé, Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), has developed a shrinking suit of his own known as the Yellowjacket that could wreak untold havoc. With the latest MCU adventure, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, hitting the big screen later this week, now's the perfect time to revisit one of Marvel's smaller superhero hits. One fan raved in a five-star Google review: 'Ant-Man is BY FAR one of the most entertaining, funny, and heartwarming movies in the MCU - I'm thinking it's my favorite! 'I went into the movie not expecting much but Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) was so easy to like and hilarious. 'My family had such a great time watching this underrated classic. It was fast-paced, had good character development, a simple storyline, didn't take itself too seriously but managed to HIT A HOME RUN, and did I mention funny as hell?' Another gushed: 'I love this movie with all my heart. It's funny, interesting, heroic and one of the funniest at Marvel Studios.' 'I never realized how great this movie is until now,' a third admitted. 'Top 5 MCU films for me. 'It is just so fun, fresh, and has great action too. Villain is actually pretty good. One of the more rewatchable films in Marvel.' Someone else said: 'This is probably my favorite Marvel movie. I am a huge Marvel fan and this was just amazing. It has comedy and the character development is amazing!' And a final review said: 'I recommend this movie cause it's just so darn funny! 'Paul Rudd does an amazing job as Ant-Man, and the humor is amazing. The action: 10/10. Humor: 10/10. Basically everything: 10/10.' Make sure you revisit another Marvel film packed with heart and humour as the Fantastic Four gear up for their next big screen outing very soon. Ant-Man is available on BBC iPlayer until Wednesday, 30th July.

Hilary Swank breaks down her bloody 'Yellowjackets' debut and that shocking ending
Hilary Swank breaks down her bloody 'Yellowjackets' debut and that shocking ending Show Caption Hide Caption What does Hilary Swank hear in public? Even she still gets surprised. Hilary Swank chats with USA TODAY's Ralphie Aversa about her new film "Ordinary Angels" and her humble beginnings in Hollywood. Surprise! Another Yellowjacket made it to adulthood, and she still wears backward baseball caps. Hilary Swank's mystery "Yellowjackets" character has finally been revealed: The two-time Oscar winner is playing the adult version of Melissa, confirming another character from the teen timeline is still alive in the present. The latest episode of the Showtime series (Sunday, 8 ET/PT, but now streaming on Paramount+) explained that Shauna's (Melanie Lynskey) ex-girlfriend faked her death, changed her name to Kelly and has been living a quiet life married to the daughter of Hannah (Ashley Sutton), one of the frog researchers whose death the Yellowjackets have been covering up. Before she died, Hannah gave Melissa a tape with a message for her daughter, Alex. But Melissa never delivered it, instead keeping a close eye on Alex to make sure she was OK before unexpectedly falling in love with her. Melissa's relationship with Alex is part of what "has helped heal" her, Swank says, but despite the couple's twisted origin, she "doesn't think that it's weird. "It's such a psychologically interesting thing that you are trying to make peace with the past," she says. "You know that this person loved their daughter, and your way of making peace with it is to love that person the way you think that person would love them. It's so intense." In contrast to the increasingly dark storylines of the other surviving Yellowjackets, Melissa professes that she has truly put the past behind her and achieved a totally normal, boring life. Swank, 50, says this isn't just a front that she's putting on for Shauna; Melissa has "done a lot of work" and "really feels like she's moved" on. That seems to really set off Shauna, who it's safe to say has not done the same. Because Shauna is "still haunted by the past," she "doesn't feel like anyone else should be able to be released" from those shackles, Swank says. Review: Bloodthirsty 'Yellowjackets' has its sting back in Season 3 But the episode explores the way that "emotional trauma, even when you think you've healed, can rear its head in unexpected ways," Swank says. Shauna's arrival "brings back a very vivid memory that can trigger what that trauma response is, and then it all comes rushing right back" at Melissa. The fact that Melissa is ready to pounce when she realizes someone has broken into her home also emphasizes that this is still the same girl who once sadistically sliced Coach Scott's Achilles tendon. "The tone that my character takes of 'who's in my closet, because I will demolish you,' is a reminder of who this person was and what they went through," Swank says. The simmering tension throughout the episode explodes in a shocking final scene, when Shauna flips out on Melissa, takes a bite out of her arm and demands she eat her own flesh. "They both have experienced so much trauma that that's how they deal. They almost go back to being 2-year-olds," says Swank, whose own twins turn 2 next month. "They're like, 'I don't know how to deal with my emotions except for biting your arm off, because there's nothing else I can do to get this release and show you that I mean what I'm saying.' It's literally like a 2-year-old." Companion' star Sophie Thatcher talks toxic love, AI and 'Yellowjackets' Season 3 Swank, who returns in next week's episode, says this moment begins a "downward spiral" for Melissa. The actress also teases a "huge surprise" coming up in her storyline that fans won't see coming. She sure didn't. "People are going to be like, 'Wait, what just happened?'" The "Yellowjackets" role was Swank's first since she had twins in 2023. The "Million Dollar Baby" star embraced the challenge of returning with such a dialogue-heavy role. "Jumping right back into that postpartum" was "tricky," she says, noting that her "brain was not working in that way for a couple of years." Adult Melissa's debut followed months of speculation and countless Reddit threads trying to piece together Swank's role in the season, which Showtime concealed in promos. Fans analyzed everything from the actress' eye color to the cast's social media activity to make their guesses. But none of that made its way to the Swank, who had no idea how much buzz her casting has been causing online. "I love that," she says. Showtime hasn't officially renewed "Yellowjackets" for a fourth season. But assuming the series gets picked up —and assuming Melissa makes it out of Season 3 without being eaten — Swank is open to returning. "It was a really fun set," she says, "and I can't say that about all sets."

‘Yellowjackets' Season 3, Episode 8 Recap: ‘Eat It'
Season 3, Episode 8: 'A Normal, Boring Life' This week, we tackle what the question of a 'normal' life looks like for a Yellowjacket. Meet Adult Melissa, otherwise known as Kelly, played by Hilary Swank. Adult Melissa thinks she has it pretty good. How did she achieve this? First, she faked her own death and changed her name. Then she married Hannah's daughter, whom she ended up falling in love with despite initially semi-stalking her to make sure she was safe. Now, they have a kid, go to church and live in a house with a cheesy sign that says, 'The Kitchen Is the Heart of the Family.' She still likes to wear backward baseball caps. Melissa-slash-Kelly believes that she is pretty well-adjusted despite it all, and compared to Shauna, who broke into her home to kill her wife, she certainly seems to be. In order to move forward, Melissa erased the past, started completely fresh. And when the past came back to haunt her, she decided to exorcise it again. That's why she sent the tape to Shauna after she learned about Adult Natalie's death. It wasn't, she says, a threat. It was a way to absolve herself, to keep the guilt at bay. Shauna doesn't necessarily believe that, and I'm not sure I do either. Melissa is almost a little too at ease with her transformation. But sitting across the table from each other, these former lovers seem like polar opposites. Shauna is jittery and paranoid, constantly thinking someone is out to get her; Melissa is calm, just wanting to maintain the peaceful existence she fought hard to create for herself. Their dynamic in the present day is mirrored by the fracture we see in the '90s story line this episode. With the arrival of Hannah and Kodiak, some of the Yellowjackets are thrilled to be heading home, dreaming of the 'normal' lives they'll have when they get back to civilization. Meanwhile, another camp is, perhaps rightly, unsure that normalcy will ever be an option. All of this is brought into stark relief during a sequence set to Supergrass's 'Alright,' which has the jaunty lyrics 'We are young, we run green, keep our teeth nice and clean.' (You might know it best from the 'Clueless' soundtrack.) As the song plays, we see how some of the girls fantasize about the creature comforts they've been missing. Mari's water bottle turns into a Slurpee. Misty imagines sitting on a toilet and using real toilet paper. Van falls into a fluffy bed. But two moments between romantic partners highlight the growing divide among the teens. Tai breaks the spell of Van's dream by asking the question: What if they can't be together when they get back? For Tai, the real world comes with homophobia that they haven't had to deal with in the wilderness. She also recognizes that even if they return to their families, they will not be able to reintegrate easily into society. Van brushes that off; being rescued outweighs all those fears. Tai isn't going to buy into that. The Man With No Eyes is just over her shoulder. Teen Shauna and Melissa have a similar spat. Melissa accuses Shauna of having abandoned her after she was shot by Kodiak. She sounds a little childish, but she has a point! Shauna didn't console her. To Shauna, this all just sounds like whining, and she placates Melissa with a condescending tone, explaining that she wanted to be the person who caught the guy who attacked her girlfriend. The space between them could be seen as merely the kind of thing that happens when one half of a couple is more into the relationship than the other, but the gap here is more complicated. Melissa, satisfied with Shauna's answer, asks Shauna what she is excited for when she gets back. As Melissa chatters away about her dreams, Shauna's mind wanders. Above Melissa's head she sees a large moth, an omen of sorts. Both Shauna and Tai seem to be visited by spirits. When it's finally time for them all to leave camp and follow Kodiak to a way out of the woods, it is Lottie who first plants her feet. Her argument is both personal and universal. Lottie sees a future back home where she is once again medicated, the imbalances in her brain constrained rather than allowed to run wild. She also argues, 'We're safer here.' As Natalie pleads with her to come, Lottie gains allies in Shauna and Tai. Natalie accepts that there are now factions and tries to proceed on her mission. Shauna, terrifyingly, tells her the group is not going anywhere. It's a devastating blow to the optimism that pervaded the rest of the episode. So why do the dissenters do it? Is it just that there's a sense of security in what is now familiar? Or is there something more mystical going on? As Melissa and Shauna face off in the present day, this debate arises again. Shauna believes she is being threatened, but Melissa is suspicious that this is not just all projection. Were Shauna's brakes were really cut, or was her car just old? Did someone really try to lock her in a freezer, or was it just an accident? Maybe someone just happened to have a 'Queen of Hearts' ringtone. Maybe Lottie's death was merely the result of her years of mental health struggles. 'This is what you do, Shauna,' Melissa says. 'You create your own problems.' Melissa isn't wrong. Shauna thrives on drama. Still, the tone with which Melissa says all this is slightly eerie. Perhaps this is just a very good cover. Accurate or not, Melissa's assessment succeeds in getting under Shauna's skin. And then, Shauna breaks. She attacks Melissa and pins her to the ground. She takes a gnarly bite out of Melissa's arm. Her mouth is filled with blood as she pulls the piece of flesh from her teeth. She dangles it over Melissa's face: 'Eat it,' she demands. If Melissa doesn't swallow, Shauna will tell her family who she really is. This is Shauna's normal. She needs Melissa to stop pretending it's not hers. More to chew on
