Uttar Pradesh Set For Major Political Overhaul As BJP Eyes Course Correction Before 2027 Polls

Last Updated: After identifying lapses in regional and caste representation, the BJP leadership is initiating a reset to recover ground lost in the 2024 polls Uttar Pradesh is poised for a significant political reshuffle, both within the BJP's organisational framework and the state government structure, top sources have confirmed to CNN-News18. In the wake of its underwhelming performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is preparing a comprehensive reset ahead of the crucial 2027 Assembly polls. The first step in this direction is expected to be the announcement of a new Uttar Pradesh BJP president — a decision currently awaited. After a brief lull following the Pakistan-backed terror attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor, the BJP has resumed focus on pending organisational changes. Uttar Pradesh is at the centre of this activity, with the appointment of a new state president seen as the immediate priority. The decision is expected to set the tone not only for the 2027 state elections but also for the party's larger leadership transition. Following the appointment, a cabinet expansion in the Yogi Adityanath-led government is on the cards. The move aims to ensure balanced regional and caste representation, especially from areas and communities that have either been underrepresented or shifted their allegiance in the recent parliamentary polls. Sources indicate that additional representation may be extended to regions such as Awadh, Braj, Kashi, Ambedkar Nagar, and the Pratapgarh–Prayagraj belt. Among the communities likely to receive fresh or enhanced representation are the Pasi and Kurmi groups from Awadh; Saini, Maurya, and Shakya from the central-eastern belt; Shakya from Braj; and Bind and Kurmi from the Kashi region. An internal review conducted by the party suggests that many of these communities, including segments of the BJP's traditional voter base, drifted away in 2024 — leading to a substantial fall in vote share. In several constituencies, the drop was as high as 6–7 per cent, even in areas previously considered secure by the party's own estimates. This feedback, shared with the central leadership, has prompted urgent discussions on course correction, with the twin goals of addressing gaps in representation and regaining electoral ground. The party is also preparing to elect a new national president. JP Nadda, who was appointed in January 2020, has already completed his full term and was given extensions to steer the BJP through critical phases, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. As per party norms, a majority of state unit elections must be completed before the new national chief is named — making the Uttar Pradesh appointment a key step in that direction. In contrast, the Samajwadi Party's candidate selection — rooted in nuanced social engineering — paid off handsomely in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, bolstering Akhilesh Yadav's political stock. The BJP, meanwhile, is working on a counter-strategy to outpace the SP in the run-up to 2027. Having come to power in 2017 with a landslide and repeated that performance with an even stronger mandate in 2022, the Yogi Adityanath government will now seek a third consecutive term. For the BJP, retaining Uttar Pradesh is not just about a state election, it is about mirroring the larger national narrative of continuity, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in a rare third term at the Centre. The Chief Minister felicitated 40 of them. The expressway, stretching 91.35 km from Gorakhpur to Azamgarh, is now set to be inaugurated on Friday. As the corridor prepares to fuel industrial growth, farmer cooperation and trust stand out as the true pillars of this success story.

Yogi govt to distribute appointment letters in UP's biggest police constable recruitment on June 15

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 14 (ANI): In a historic move, the Yogi Adityanath-led government is set to hand over appointment letters to 60,244 newly selected police constables under the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Direct Recruitment--marking the largest recruitment drive of its kind in the state's history. The distribution event is scheduled for Sunday, June 15, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah slated to present the appointment letters to the selected candidates. This is the first time a massive recruitment drive in the Police department has been conducted so smoothly in Uttar Pradesh. The Yogi government has ensured a seamless recruitment process and is setting a new benchmark by providing timely appointments and high-tech training to selected candidates, the Chief Minister's office said in a press release. Under CM Yogi's leadership, the recruitment of 60,244 constables has been completed as part of the government's vision to build a stronger, more modern police force. This massive recruitment drive has been lauded nationwide for its use of unprecedented technological innovation and transparency. Under the Direct Recruitment 2023, a total of 48,196 male and 12,048 female candidates have been selected. The process was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. The examination received 48.17 lakh applications, including 15.49 lakh from women. Conducting an exam of this scale was a significant challenge for both the administration and the recruitment board. However, with tight monitoring and advanced technology, the challenge was met successfully. Only government or aided schools in urban areas were selected as exam centres, and all previously blacklisted centres were excluded. To secure the process, double-lock strongrooms were used to store question papers, with 24-hour CCTV surveillance, biometric and facial recognition, and real-time Aadhaar verification in place. Only gazetted officers were deployed for exam duties, with no involvement of private individuals. The written exam was conducted in 10 shifts over five days, and the OMR sheets were scanned under CCTV surveillance. Results were declared in record time, with 1.74 lakh candidates qualifying for the next stage. Document verification (DV), physical standard tests (PST), and physical efficiency tests (PET) were conducted across all 75 districts and 12 PAC battalions using strict monitoring and RFID technology. The final list of 60,244 selected candidates was released on March 13. Candidates from every district of the state were selected--Agra had the highest number (2,349), while Shravasti had the fewest (25). Additionally, 1,145 candidates from other states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi were also selected. Representation was ensured across general, EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories. The Yogi government has not only focused on recruitment but has also strengthened the training infrastructure. All selected candidates are undergoing high-tech training, and training centres' capacities have been expanded to ensure quality instruction. Conducted by the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, this recruitment process is now being seen as a model of technological excellence and administrative efficiency. It has played a crucial role in turning youth aspirations into reality and exemplifies the government's commitment to 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.' CM Yogi Adityanath has consistently prioritised transparent recruitment and connecting youth with government employment opportunities. This process stands as a shining example of that policy, offering jobs to eligible candidates in record time through a fair and transparent system. Strengthening the police force is a landmark step toward enhancing law and order in the state. (ANI)
