Amit Shah to hand over letters to 60,244 newly recruited UP Constables
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will distribute appointment letters to 60,244 newly recruited constables of the Uttar Pradesh Police at a ceremony here on Sunday, an official statement said.
The event marks the largest-ever direct recruitment drive for civil police constables in the history of the state police, the statement said.
Under the Civil Police Direct Recruitment-2023, 48,196 male and 12,048 female candidates have been selected. The process was conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
The statement said the recruitment drive received 48.17 lakh applications, including 15.49 lakh from women. Despite the scale, the examination and selection process was completed smoothly through the use of advanced technology and strict supervision.
The Yogi Adityanath-led government said it has not only ensured timely recruitment but also taken steps to improve training standards.
All selected candidates will undergo high-tech training, and the capacity of training centres has been increased to ensure quality instruction, it added.

The measure would make Trump's 2017 tax cuts permanent, end taxation on tips and overtime, boost border security funding and scrap green-energy tax credits passed during the Biden administration. However, Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer criticised Republicans for rushing the process, demanding the entire bill be read aloud on the Senate floor to ensure proper scrutiny. After the bill is read, lawmakers will have up to 20 hours to debate its contents before a final vote. The House of Representatives already narrowly approved a version of this bill in May. If the Senate passes it, the bill will return to the House for final approval before landing on the President's desk for signing into law. This bill is a cornerstone of Trump's economic agenda, aiming to cement his tax cuts while boosting defence and border spending, often at the expense of social programmes. During the programme, PM Modi played rare archival audio clips of former Prime Ministers Morarji Desai, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who described the Emergency as a time of constitutional murder, mass arrests, and the suppression of civil liberties and press freedom. Prime Minister Modi asserted that every citizen should remember the ones who fought 'bravely' against the Emergency and it also inspires us to stay 'vigilant' to 'safeguard' the constitution. 'Morarji Desai describes the Emergency in brief... Not only did those who imposed the Emergency murder democracy, but their intention was to keep the judiciary as their puppet... Their right to freedom was snatched away, newspapers were silenced, and the judiciary was rendered powerless. Over one lakh people were jailed. Such an arbitrary rule is rare even in world history.'
