Rock legends AC/DC reveal Australian tour details

They've played countless shows since, all of which Van Egmond says have been huge in production scale and unique. As for whether the upcoming shows will be the band's last in Australia, he said it was hard to tell. Loading 'We just know they love touring,' he said. The Aussie gigs follow a series of concerts across the US and Europe, where the legendary group performed fan favourites like Thunderstruck, Highway to Hell and You Shook Me All Night Long. The European leg sold over 2 million tickets in 24 shows, and was described as 'sweat-inducing, fist-thrusting rock'. AC/DC were last in Australia in 2015 for the Rock or Bust world tour, during which they played in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. The group largely took a step back from performing live after this, though they returned for the California festival Power Trip in 2023. Taking the stage will be original member Angus Young, 70, on lead guitar, and 77-year-old singer Brian Johnson, who joined the band in 1980 following the death of frontman Bon Scott. Joining them will be Angus and Malcolm Young's nephew Stevie Young on rhythm guitar. Stevie joined the band in 2014, following Malcolm's dementia diagnosis. Malcolm died in 2017. The group will be rounded out by drummer Matt Laug, and bassist Chris Chaney. In honour of the rock royalty's return down under, Melbourne City Council will invite the band to help re-create the famous music video for It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll), which was filmed on a flatbed truck on Swanston Street nearly 50 years ago. 'February 23, 1976 was a famous moment in Aussie rock,' Lord Mayor of Melbourne Nicholas Reece said. 'Liverpool has the Beatles, Manchester has Oasis and Swanston Street has AC/DC. We'll certainly approach the band and invite them to perform on that famous flatbed truck again, and even do a replay in the Melbourne City Square of their performance 50 years ago.' Whether the band agrees to take part remains uncertain. Brian Johnson has not performed It's a Long Way to the Top since the death of Bon Scott out of respect for the former lead vocalist. However, Reece says this could be the perfect opportunity to honour him. 'If ever there was an excuse to break that rule [of not playing the song], surely it would be on the 50th anniversary – all in honour of Bon,' he says. Van Egmond says the team will facilitate the request, and will 'see where it lands with the band'. If they decline the invitation, Reece said a 50th anniversary event would still go ahead in February. 'We'll recreate the flatbed truck performance and pull together an AC/DC super-group – names like Tim Rogers are being floated – and recreate that moment down Swanston Street and the city square,' he said. 'We want to paint the town black.' Loading AC/DC officially launched on New Year's Eve in 1973 at Chequers Nightclub in Sydney, where they played their first gig. Since then, they have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and they have sold over 200 million albums worldwide, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. Their Back in Black LP, which landed in 1980, sold an estimated 50 million copies globally, making it one of the bestselling albums of any band in music history. Their most recent album Power Up, which was released in 2020 and which their current tour celebrates, debuted at No.1 on the ARIA chart. It also debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, marking the band's third time debuting in the top spot.

AC/DC's Smashes Are Uniformly Soaring

AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" climbs to No. 5 on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Singles chart as four of ... More the band's classics rise simultaneously. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 07: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) (L-R) Stevie Young, Brian Johnson, Angus Young, and Cliff Williams of AC/DC perform onstage during the Power Trip music festival at Empire Polo Club on October 07, 2023 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Power Trip) Even without releasing anything new, AC/DC still commands an incredible amount of space on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart in the U.K. The group ranks among the most successful names on the list at the moment, with multiple smashes appearing at the same time. Not only does the Australian rock outfit take up more real estate than almost any other act, but this time around, every one of its tunes manages to climb as sales increase. These decades-old classics are, somehow, still improving after so much time. AC/DC fills four spaces on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, meaning the group controls 10% of the entire 40-position ranking, which looks only at the bestselling tunes in those styles. This time around, all four smashes — which have already spent years on the list — manage to climb at least one spot, with most surging multiple rungs at once. "Thunderstruck" is AC/DC's highest-rising hit on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart this week, which is usually the case. The title climbs to No. 5, growing by one position from its previous placement at No. 6. Fellow time-tested winners "Back in Black," "Highway to Hell," and "You Shook Me All Night Long" also climb ever so slightly, appearing this frame at Nos. 21, 24, and 34, respectively. Among that bunch, the least successful track is "You Shook Me All Night Long," which is still regarded as a generation-defining win. The tune is the only one of the four that has yet to reach No. 1, as it has thus far stalled in the runner-up spot. It has also spent the least amount of time on the tally, with just 457 frames to its credit. That sum would be historic for almost any other act, but when it comes to AC/DC, the other three charting successes on the Official Rock & Metal Singles list have all passed 600 frames. "Thunderstruck" is the only one of AC/DC's songs that manages to appear on more than one tally this week. As it climbs on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, it also advances on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads lists, coming in at Nos. 66 and 62, respectively. In both instances, sales increased so much that "Thunderstruck" was able to push forward by more than 10 spots.

AC/DC Brings Multiple Singles Back To The Billboard Charts

AC/DC is climbing the Billboard charts once again, thanks to a handful of timeless smashes — and not just in the U.S., but globally as well. The legendary rockers appear on more than half a dozen rankings this frame, as both albums and singles reemerge and rise across several tallies. Three songs by AC/DC find their way onto the rosters this week, with two of them making notable comebacks on one tally apiece. "You Shook Me All Night Long" is the highest-flying return from AC/DC at the moment. The familiar cut reenters the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart at No. 10, bringing it to the top 10 once more. At the same time, the fan favorite also improves slightly on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, lifting to No. 21. Meanwhile, "Thunderstruck" continues to live up to its reputation as AC/DC's biggest hit. The anthem appears on five different rankings this frame, making it the group's most visible song right now. 'Thunderstruck' reappears on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at No. 178, and its international appeal is on display once more. Simultaneously, it rockets up the Billboard Global 200, which tracks the most-consumed songs worldwide including U.S. figures – while the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. removes sales and streaming info from America – soaring more than 30 spaces to No. 142. That's a new all-time peak for the cut on the planet-spanning roster. In America, "Thunderstruck" nearly reclaims the throne on several genre-specific lists. It settles at No. 2 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, just missing out on the top spot, while also coming in third place on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking. Over on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, the cut breaks back into the top 10, advancing from No. 11 to No. 9. It's not just individual tracks that perform well when it comes to AC/DC's catalog. The band's Back in Black album is also enjoying a notable resurgence, as it climbs on three separate Billboard charts this week. On the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, Back in Black finds its way back into the top 10. The title track from the release is also growing, improving from No. 21 to No. 19 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list. It's the only AC/DC tune to appear on a single roster. Back in Black was originally released in 1980 and remains one of the most successful projects in hard rock history. The album is still actually one of the bestselling full-lengths of all time, regardless of style.
