Chinese national charged with stabbing ex-girlfriend at Malaysian university
A foreign student who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the neck on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur has claimed trial at the sessions court in Shah Alam. Chinese national You Wei, 22, was accused of causing grievous hurt to Wu Jalin, 20, by using a weapon on the second floor of a private university in Subang Jaya at 6.30pm on July 14. According to the charge sheet, You stabbed Wu, also a Chinese national, on the left side of her neck with a knife, which could have caused death. The charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, was read out to him in English before judge Norazlin Othman on Monday. If convicted, You faces a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or caning. Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not propose any bail for the accused pending an Immigration Department review. His passport is valid until October 31, 2026. In mitigation, You's counsel Revin Kumar said his client had a mental health condition.

Foreign student charged with stabbing ex-girlfriend in neck
SHAH ALAM: A foreign student from a private university was charged in the Sessions Court today with causing grievous hurt to his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her in the neck with a knife last week. You Wei, 22, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Judge Norazlin Othman. He is accused of committing the offence against 20-year-old Wu Jalin using a dangerous weapon, which could have caused her death, at the university in Bandar Sunway at 6.30pm on July 14. The charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, and a fine or whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not offer bail. "We are concerned that the accused may flee the country despite having a valid passport, which expires on Oct 31 next year," she said. Lawyer Revin Kumar said his client is a third-year student at the university and is expected to complete his studies within a year. "He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and is currently receiving treatment at a private clinic. "He was arrested on July 14 and has been remanded for seven days." "He has been residing in Malaysia since September 2023 and pledges to remain here to answer the charge. "I ask that he be allowed bail with additional conditions such as to surrender his passport to the court and report to the police station," he said. Norazlin granted You bail of RM20,000 with two sureties. The victim, also a foreigner, was reportedly involved in a confrontation when her ex-boyfriend allegedly stabbed her in the neck with a knife. Viral videos of the incident show university students rushing to assist her, attempting to stop the bleeding from her neck, while several male students restrained the suspect. She was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment. As of last week, Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat had said that the victim was stable but unable to give her statement yet. The police, nevertheless, have recorded statements from 12 people as part of investigations.
