Yuvraj Singh's 'unforgiving' take after India surrender to England despite 5 centuries; Harbhajan demands urgent change

How India went from 430/3 in the first innings and 287/3 in the second to losing a Test match is beyond comprehension. This team had five individual centuries across innings – two from Rishabh Pant alone – scored almost 800 runs, and still lost the game. Unbelievable. While the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy more than lived up to the hype, with both teams fighting tooth and nail to lay down a brilliant advert for Test cricket, India would rue their abysmal fielding, including six-plus dropped catches, which led to a five-wicket drubbing. In short, India snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and there isn't much they can do about it other than ponder over the same and think of ways to bounce back. Yuvraj Singh, left and Harbhajan Singh, right, reacted to India's loss under Shubman Gill, centre.(PTI/AP/Harbhajan insta) Given the nature of the defeat, there is no shortage of reactions, with some renowned former Indian cricketers leading the way. Most prominent was Yuvraj Singh, who reminded this young team led by Shubman Gill that the defeat may hurt but it isn't the end of the road, with four Test matches still to go. Yuvraj acknowledged the grind of Test cricket, praising both teams for keeping it going almost until the very end. Despite the loss, Yuvraj was impressed by what he saw of the Indian team, urging them to hit the ground running even harder. Also Read: Gill lacked Kohli-like aura. Shastri kept saying...: Nasser Hussain flags 'Jadeja' blunder as 'Hardik' talk returns "Test cricket at its finest - intense, challenging and unforgiving. Five days of a high-quality game and a result that could've gone either way! Our young team showed fight and belief, the kind that wins you games in the long run. Fell short, but far from done! The series is still alive," he posted on X. Harbhajan wants an immediate change in India's Playing XI Meanwhile, Yuvraj's former India and Punjab teammate Harbhajan Singh reckons India need to shake things up a little bit to stage a comeback. India has a good seven-day break before the 2nd Test begins at Edgbaston in Birmingham, but the ex-India spinner believes the team management needs to figure out a way to bring Kuldeep Yadav into the mix. With Ravindra Jadeja getting plenty of purchase from the rough and pacers pretty much proving ineffective, India probably felt the absence of a second spinner. Who Kuldeep replaces, though, makes for an interesting call, believes Harbhajan. Also Read: Gautam Gambhir's firm verdict on Jasprit Bumrah plan after Sunil Gavaskar's special plea amid glaring cracks in Leeds "The pressure is now on India because when you trail 0-1, you need to learn and move ahead. I feel Kuldeep Yadav should get a game in the next game. If he comes into the XI, India will have more wicket-taking options. Now who does he replace? Shardul Thakur? I had said that he needs to bowl more but he was brought into the attack when England needed some 100-120 runs. He deserves a proper opportunity. If you consider him a batter who can bowl a bit, that's incorrect. He's a bowler who can bat a bit," said Harbhajan on his YouTube channel. "This improvement must be made in the next Test. Otherwise, like I said, this is a tour of England at the end of the day. Many strong and big teams have failed to win here. If you play in a way that you get 450 runs in the first innings, and the lose, I feel it's an opportunity missed."

Armed men attack participants of procession in Bhopal, 20-year-old stabbed to death

A 20-year-old was killed after a group of armed assailants attacked him and others while they were taking part in a religious procession in Bhopal on Sunday night. According to police, Yuvraj Banskar, who lived with his family in Bhopal and was originally from Lalitpur district in Uttar Pradesh, was stabbed to death. Two others, Rohit Sen and Sanju Verma, were also attacked. Police have arrested one accused, identified as Piyush Soni. A senior police officer said, 'The main accused, Piyush Soni, was arrested on the basis of the statement of eyewitnesses. Two other men have been arrested. We are on the lookout for other accused persons as well.' According to police, the attack took place during a Shobha Yatra procession organised by the Yuva Hindu Utsav Samiti. The procession, which started from Sindhi Colony and was going towards Mata Mandir Square, was reportedly disrupted when armed men suddenly attacked people who were dancing to DJ music. The ensuing chaos left three young men severely injured. Yuvraj subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh of the Congress and the party's state president Jitu Patwari visited Hamidia Hospital on Monday, where they met Yuvraj's family and offered their condolences. The leaders also raised concerns about the law and order situation in the city. Addressing senior police officers at the spot, Singh said, 'It is forbidden to carry any kind of weapon during a rally. Will you take action if I show you photos and videos of people carrying weapons ?' Sanju, who was a friend of Yuvraj's and was also injured in the attack, recounted the incident. 'We were dancing during the rally. Then someone else pushed Piyush, but he grabbed my collar. I slapped him. As we were leaving, he returned with his gang and attacked us. That's when Yuvraj died,' Sanju said.

'We burnt whole house by standing for one person. Where is he?': Yograj Singh reignites fury over MS Dhoni-era decisions

Former India cricketer Yograj Singh, father of all-round great Yuvraj, has once again made a rather controversial remark, most likely aimed at MS Dhoni. Yograj has long been a staunch critic of Dhoni, seemingly after Yuvraj Singh was dropped from the Indian team under the former's captaincy. While Yuvraj had been a regular feature for India, particularly in white-ball formats, under Dhoni, his appearances became more sporadic following his return after recovering from cancer. During an interaction with InsideSport, Yograj spoke about the 'brotherly' culture in the Indian team during the Ganguly era, stating that it changed because of 'one man.' While Yograj didn't explicitly name the person, the signs led to Dhoni. '(We had) Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, and others. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh), Yuvi (Yuvraj), Viru (Virender Sehwag), (Mohammed) Kaif, Zaheer (Khan) among youngsters. Combination of elder and younger brothers. That's why they could lead the youngsters and become the greatest of all time. And what we did? We burned out the whole house by just standing for one person. I won't name him. Where is he? See what happened,' said Yograj. 'When you give love, you get people like Sachin, Yuvi, Gambhir, Viru. They will never go down the drain. They will always be stars.' This isn't the first time when Yograj took an aim at India's leadership after the Ganguly era. In the same interaction, he earlier accused the selectors of abruptly discarding some of the country's biggest match-winners after the 2011 ODI World Cup triumph. Yograj recalled how several stalwarts of the game were denied a proper send-off, with their exits handled without grace or accountability. 'You (BCCI selectors) just destroyed these boys for no reason,' Yograj told InsideSport in an exclusive interaction. 'Boys like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid. You just made them go after 2011.' Most of the names mentioned were dropped or faded from the national scheme within 18 months of India's title win; while Kaif hadn't been a part of Team India in 2011, Dravid and Laxman were regular features in Test squad a the time. Both retired a year later.

Yuvraj Singh's On-Field Spat With Australia Great Revealed: Yograj Singh Says "Not School..."

Former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has recalled how sledging from the Australian team, led by Steve Waugh, made his son a mentality beast on the field. Yograj insisted that while Waugh's words might seem to be harsh, they taught Yuvraj to be tough and give it back to the opposition. When Yuvraj first arrived at the scene as an 19-year-old, he wasn't as expressive as he was when he finished his career. It was only after that incident that changed everything. Yograj also recalled the incident when Yuvraj got into a heated argument with England great Andrew Flintoff during a T20 World Cup 2007 Super Six fixture, but took his anger out on a young Stuart Broad, hitting him for six sixes in an over. "For me, it's a war fought by gentlemen. While you are in the field, there are times you are just going through the motions, and people should understand this. I don't know whether you have heard what Australians do on the field. They abuse everything which is in the world. They use every harsh word in the dictionary. I remember when Yuvraj was hit by a ball and he fell. Steve Waugh came and said, 'Get up, this is not school cricket, you bloody kid'," Yograj told Inside Sport. "And he just got up and he was standing. And then he would swear like this and what happened with Flintoff and Yuvi," he added. Yograj also pointed out that emotions often tend to get the better of players when they are playing for the country, so whatever happens on the field stays on it. "You are still friends when you go out. Everybody is not the same. Emotions go, forgive them. Obviously, at the end of the day, you are friends. You say sorry to each other and that is over. Have a big heart. Don't get into all these petty things. There is nonsense going on, fining kids and all this kind of stuff. It doesn't matter," he added. Yograj made these revelations while speaking about the BCCI penalising Lucknow Super Kings (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi for his trademark 'notebook' celebration. Speaking on the matter, Yograj suggested that it is all in the sport and that youngsters must not be fined for such petty issues.
