All set for Mega Parent-Teacher Meet on July 10

Tirupati: The State government has decided to conduct parent teacher meeting this year also to foster better understanding between students, parents and teachers. The mega 'Parent Teacher Meeting' will be held in this direction on July 10 across the district. Speaking to the media on Saturday, District Collector Dr S Venkateswar stated that this event follows last year's successful meet organised by the State Education department. At the district level, the programme will be conducted under the supervision of the in-charge Minister Angani Satya Prasad. The event will see widespread participation from elected representatives including MLAs, MLCs, MPs, ZPTC, MPTC members, MPPs, and Sarpanches. The programme will be simultaneously held in all government and private schools, government and private junior colleges, and intermediate colleges across the district. Dr Venkateswar said that the meet was aimed at building mutual understanding among students, teachers and parents. 'It will be conducted in a festive environment with a focus on holistic educational development,' he said. The event will start at 9 am and continue until lunch, where parents, students, and public representatives will participate in a community meal. Feedback on the mid-day meal will also be collected from parents, and a special menu has already been finalised for the day. As part of the event, Holistic Progress Reports of students will be handed over to their parents. 'Sarvepalli Radhakrishna kits' have already been distributed to students in the district. Children participating in the event will wear government-issued uniforms, and the 'Thalliki Vandanam' amount has already been deposited into mothers' accounts. For those with Aadhaar-related technical issues, the district will ensure the pending amounts are credited within 2-3 weeks, provided the Aadhaar details are updated by July 10. Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par', the event will also include a tree plantation drive, where students will plant a sapling in the name of their mother. The social forestry and education departments will ensure adequate sapling supply to all schools. Private school managements are also being engaged to ensure their participation. In case of space constraints, schools are encouraged to collaborate and hold the programme jointly at a common venue. The Collector noted that the health department will inform parents about students' health status as part of the programme. The meeting was attended by RIO Rajasekhar, Samagra Siksha Superintendent Suresh and other officials.

BJP plans inroads into rural areas with centralised campaign for local body polls

The BJP is confident of making a mark in the rural areas in the forthcoming local body polls with the leadership deciding to give 'B' forms to the contesting candidates for the ZPTC — Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies, MPTC — Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies. A workshop held recently to discuss the plan of action for the polls and presided over by party president and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has decided to put up a coordinated centralised campaign plan in collaboration with the newly appointed district presidents and local committees, said top party sources on Thursday. 'The party is in a good position, having done well in both Assembly and Parliament elections, where we won eight seats each. It was followed by winning two MLC elections. Our membership drive led to 40 lakh enrolments, up from 11 lakh. We have also become organisationally strong with the formation of mandal and booth committees,' they said. Since sarpanches will be elected on a non-party basis, the party leadership has decided to focus on MPTC/ZPTC where thus far the combined strength is said to be about 150 more concentrated in Mahabubnagar, Karimnagar and Nizamabad. 'The party will actively seek applications from interested candidates and vet them instead of merely depending on local leadership. Our 450 mandal and 23,000 booth committees will come in handy. The eight MPs and eight MLAs, too, have been sounded out about their respective roles,' said party sources. The BJP also feels it is the right time to make inroads into the villages because of the 'anti-incumbency' of the Congress government due to various issues like delayed 'Rythu Bharosa' scheme, fee reimbursement failure and non-implementation of six guarantees. The opposition BRS is in a disarray with family bickering leaving the cadre demoralised. Plus, not winning a single seat in Lok Sabha polls, not putting up candidates for MLC elections and the ongoing probe into phone tapping, and Kaleshwaram project, had put it on a back foot, said a senior leader. 'Our party always had a presence in urban areas but this time we are confident of making inroads into the districts. Since, Telugu Desam Party is our coalition partner, we are sure to benefit,' said former MLC N. Ramchander Rao.

Telangana Cabinet meeting on June 23, decision on local body elections likely

HYDERABAD: The state Cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is likely to take a decision on holding local bodies elections in the state. Recently, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka and Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy had hinted that the schedule for local body elections would be announced soon. The tenures of sarpanches, Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and Zilla Praja Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members ended last year. For the record, there are a total of 12,769 sarpanch seats, 5,717 MPTC and 538 ZPTC seats in the state. Besides the conduct of local body polls, the Cabinet is also likely to discuss the possibility of providing 42 per cent reservations to BCs in upcoming elections. As the Bill passed by the Assembly on enhancing BC reservations to 42 per cent has been sent for the President's approval, the Cabinet is likely to deliberate on how to go ahead with the BC quota issue. According to sources, the MPTC and ZPTC elections will be conducted first, after which the sarpanch polls will be held.
