Latest Trailer for Weapons Proves It's The Most Anticipated Horror Movie of the Year

Zach Cregger took everyone by surprise with Barbarian , and before he gets to go mainstream with his reboot of Resident Evil , he has one movie he's working on that has horror fans excited. Weapons is set to come to cinemas this August, and we have a disturbing new trailer for this mystery horror film. Check it out: Though the premise itself was interesting, everyone is excited by the top talent that the movie was able to gather including the likes of Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich. We don't know what the movie is about exactly, but some are speculating that with the title Weapons and children being the focal point of the story; the film could be looking to say something about school shootings or violence being instilled in young children. Admittedly, Netflix's Adolesence kind of tackled the 'mysogny growing in young males' problem already, but it's going to be fascinating to see how Cregger is going to take on the issue with a horror lens. Then again, this is just speculation on the fans' part; and we don't know exactly what to expect with Weapons —which is what makes it so exciting. It also doesn't hurt that rumors were going around that Jordan Peele fired his agent because he wanted to direct this movie and Cregger got the job instead. Here's the official description for the movie: When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. Watch out for Weapons when it comes to cinemas on Aug. 8.

‘Weapons' New Trailer: Josh Brolin Demands to Know Where His Missing Child Went in Zach Cregger's Horror Movie

Zach Cregger's 'Weapons' quickly became one of the year's buzziest horror movies when the first trailer dropped in April. Now, the latest trailer for the new film from the 'Barbarian' director shows the drama (and haunting imagery) getting even darker as children's disappearances plague a small town. More from IndieWire Netflix Canceled the Release of a Gore Vidal Biopic Eight Years Ago - for the Filmmakers, the Story Isn't Over The Academy Reveals Board of Governors for 2025-2026 The logline reads: ''Weapons' is a horror film that follows an entire classroom of children who get out of their beds and disappear one night without a trace. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.' Julia Garner stars as the teacher whose entire class, except for one student, goes missing in the dead of night. Josh Brolin plays one of the many parents disturbed by the disappearances, now determined to find his child at any cost. Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan also star. Cregger directs from his own screenplay, and also produces alongside Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Michelle Morrissey and actor Brolin executive producing. New Line Cinema chief Richard Brenner previously described the film as being 'batshit insane.' Cregger agreed, telling Entertainment Weekly that 'Weapons' is 'weirder, twistier, and bigger' than his directorial debut, 'Barbarian.' ('Weapons' is said to exist within the same universe as 'Barbarian,' which became an indie hit in theaters in September 2022.) Cregger told Entertainment Weekly that 'Weapons' is 'an incredibly personal story' as well, saying, 'There's certain chapters of this that are legitimately autobiographical that I feel like I lived.' The 'Weapons' creative team behind the camera includes director of photography Larkin Seiple, production designer Tom Hammock, editor Joe Murphy, and costume designer Trish Summerville. Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay, and Cregger compose the original score. The film is a New Line Cinema, Subconscious, Vertigo Entertainment, and BoulderLight Pictures production, with Warner Bros. Pictures distributing. 'Weapons' will also get an IMAX nationwide release. Cregger will next reimagine 'Resident Evil' with his first IP film project. Warner Bros. Pictures will release 'Weapons' in theaters August 8. Check out the latest trailer below. ‘Weapons' Second Trailer: Josh Brolin Wants To Know What Happened To Those Missing Kids

Talk about taboo. Zach Cregger's second horror movie, Weapons, goes right for the jugular tapping into the sheer human fear of missing children. The second trailer shows more of that school board meeting where Josh Brolin's Dad character demands, 'I wanna know what happened in that classroom!' — questioning why 17 kids are missing from that specific classroom at this Americana school. 'Why just her classroom!' Brolin's character shouts. Julia Garner's principal — well, she's all thumbs. Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Barbarian director Zach Cregger's chilling horror mystery film Weapons , and it looks like it's going to take audiences on a twisted and nightmarish journey. Seriously, this movie looks like it's filled with some disturbing shit! I'm looking forward to seeing where this story take us. The film stars Julia Garner ( Fantastic Four ) as an elementary school teacher who shows up to class one morning only to discover that every single student is gone. In the story, 17 Local Children Leave Home Simultaneously at 2:17AM. It's explained that 'A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core. 'Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced, and the case continues to baffle investigators. 'In response, a school gathering was held, where growing unease among parents became clear. As the town struggles to understand what happened, officials continue to urge the public for any leads, while Maybrook is left waiting for answers.' We saw a full trailer for this film while at CinemaCon and you can check out our reaction video for it here. This is sure to be a great horror movie! The rest of the cast includes Josh Brolin ( Dune ), Benedict Wong ( Doctor Strange ), and Alden Ehrenreich ( Solo: A Star Wars Story ). The New ‘Weapons' Trailer Promises ‘a Lot of People Die in a Lot of Really Weird Ways'

So far the marketing for Weapons is looking like 2025's slightly more accessible answer to last year's Longlegs: freaky and distressing, and promising exponentially more of the same from the feature itself. A first trailer gave a little more insight into the movie's plot, and a retro-styled website plays up its true-crime angle. Now Weapons is back with a second clip to set the dread-filled mood even more. We see a bewildered teacher (Julia Garner) being blamed for a class of missing kids, with Josh Brolin as an angry guy shouting in a meeting—as well doing what looks like some obsessive detective work as he tries to figure out the mystery. We have a small child narrating that 'a lot of people die in a lot of really weird ways' in this story, set in what appears to be the quintessential small town with a secret, and we see quite evidently that it's not just an empty school room where terrible truths are going to be revealed. Here's the official synopsis, a single sentence that implies a lot without saying very much at all: 'When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.' Along with Brolin and Garner, Weapons stars Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. It's written and directed by Barbarian breakout Zach Cregger. Weapons arrives in theaters August 8. Want more io9 news?
