In a major first for the Middle East, Abu Dhabi will make a splash on the global sporting calendar this November as it hosts the Para Swimming World Series, and it's not just a one-off. The capital's Mohammed bin Zayed City Aquatics Complex will be the stage for the grand finale of the 2025 season, running from November 27 to 29, capping off a globe-spanning calendar that has included stops in Japan, Spain and Peru. The event marks the first time the Para Swimming World Series comes to the region, part of a new four-year agreement that will see Abu Dhabi host the championship through to 2028. The Abu Dhabi event will follow the Toyota World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore in September, making it a fitting finale to the season. For fans, it's a rare chance to watch elite-level para sport up close, with a format that emphasises both individual brilliance and team performance, thanks to a global points-based system that runs across all World Series events. The competition is being co-organised by Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination and Abu Dhabi Aquatics Club, two key players helping to grow adaptive sport across the UAE. Not only is this a big win for the local sporting scene, but it's also a landmark moment for inclusion in sport across the Gulf. 15 June 2025 11:51 ABU DHABI (WAM)The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO), in collaboration with Emirates Scholar Center for Research and Studies, has announced the launch of two new peer-reviewed academic journals: International Journal of Rehabilitation & Disability Studies, and the Emirati Journal of Applied initiative reflects a strategic partnership and a shared vision to advance specialised knowledge in the fields of rehabilitation and mental health, while positioning the UAE as a regional and global hub for innovative scientific journals are subject to rigorous peer-review processes by expert academic committees, and have been officially indexed in reputable international their announcement, the journals have received substantial engagement, with over 134 research submissions. More than 20 full-length scientific papers are slated for publication in the inaugural issues, with an additional 100+ contributions currently under launch builds on previous collaborative efforts between the two institutions, including the development of the multilingual UAE–Russian Psychology Dictionary, the creation of a GPT-based application dedicated to psychological science, and the recent completion of the French edition of the dictionary—now available in four initiatives have significantly expanded access to scientific resources for researchers and experts in the region and across Europe, fostering cross-cultural academic date, the digital platforms for these initiatives have recorded over 5 million views, and the dictionary alone has attracted more than 100,000 on the announcement, Abdullah Abdulali Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, said, 'Specialised knowledge and scientific research are the foundation for developing inclusive rehabilitation systems. The UAE has announced an initiative that aims to integrate local and federal standards of diagnosis and identification for People of Determination that contribute to building an inclusive and supportive environment The issuance of a single unified card will be recognised at both federal and local levels and will facilitate access to services by January 2026. Outlined by the Ministry of Family and Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, the initiative commits to align legislations and regulations, and to fully implement the Unified National Disability Classification. The move aims to enhance the protection of rights for People of Determination, monitor employment stability and conduct benchmarking of working hours. Innovative technological solutions such as data-sharing networks and the expansion of smart application use will be implemented. The cooperation also aims to develop curricula and facilities in care and rehabilitation centres, and to raise public awareness of issues through joint campaigns and activities The partnership reflects the government's ongoing commitment to enhancing the role of People of Determination in the UAE community, highlighted Hessa Abdulrahman Tahlak, Assistant Undersecretary for the Development Sector at the Ministry of Family, emphasised that Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, highlighted the adoption of technology and digital integration to raise service efficiency and ensure full inclusion of People of Determination.
