Malaysia's support for Palestine based on humanitarian principles
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has reaffirmed that its support for the Palestinian struggle is grounded in humanitarian principles and universal justice, rather than being driven solely by political sentiment or allegiance to specific groups. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said this long-standing position has remained consistent, including on matters involving Hamas, which is one of the entities within the landscape of the Palestinian struggle. He said Malaysia has never wavered in advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people to return to their homeland and to establish a sovereign state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. 'Many have asked, including my counterparts, why Malaysia supports Hamas, when it has been labelled a terrorist organisation. Malaysia has said that we are not supporting Hamas, we are supporting the struggle of the Palestinians and Hamas is a part of them. 'On various platforms, whether at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the UN General Assembly or the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Malaysia has consistently raised this issue and condemned Israel's atrocities,' he said during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was replying to a question from Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) regarding the government's latest efforts to defend the plight of Muslims in Gaza. Mohamad further said that the atrocities in Gaza have exceeded all bounds of humanity and are almost beyond description. In fact, he said, more countries that previously supported the Zionist regime are now shifting their stance after witnessing the excessive violence inflicted on Palestinian civilians. 'They have realised how cruel the Zionist Israeli regime is in killing women and children. They claim that they (Israel) have the right to self-defence, but does killing women and children constitute self-defence?' he said. He added that Malaysia will once again propose for a reform of the UNSC veto power at the upcoming UN General Assembly to ensure that the principles of justice and humanity are no longer denied by major powers. Mohamad said that although calls to end the crisis in Gaza now represent a majority, the absolute use of veto power within the UNSC has often thwarted efforts to defend the Palestinian people. He said the reform proposal will also include limiting the use of veto power in cases involving genocide, crimes against humanity, and the destruction of public infrastructure. 'Veto power must be restricted and cannot be used arbitrarily. We are also calling for the expansion of non-permanent membership to include countries from Asia, Africa, and South America. 'This is what we are pushing for, and the proposal has received positive feedback from like-minded countries and from Malaysia,' he said. - Bernama

Appointment of Nick Adams should be rejected, says Amanah Youth
SHAH ALAM: The appointment of conservative influencer Nick Adams as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia is seen as an insult to the country's dignity and foreign policy, says the Amanah Youth international bureau chairman Mus'ab Muzahar then said that Malaysia upholds sovereignty, regional peace, and solidarity with oppressed people, especially Palestinians. He added that allowing Adams to come to Malaysia as the US Ambassador would open the door to the US's toxic agenda and politics of hatred and said that the appointment should be firmly rejected under Article 4 of the Vienna Convention. "Nick Adams is not a diplomat or a statesman. He is merely a far-right propagandist, a staunch Trump supporter, and a vocal supporter of the Zionist Israeli regime. "His rhetoric on social media is full of hatred, racism, and Islamophobic sentiments, clearly deviating from the spirit of mature bilateral relations," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 13). Earlier, US President Donald Trump, via his Truth Social platform on Thursday, nominated Nick Adams as the US Ambassador to Malaysia. Trump stated that Nick is not only an extraordinary nationalist and a successful entrepreneur but also a bestselling author, speaker, and renowned commentator. Mus'ab then said that Malaysia's sovereignty allows the country to determine who is fit to represent foreign nations on its soil. "This is not a personal matter; it is a matter of principle and national dignity. Malaysia is not a testing ground for US political puppets," he said. He emphasised that they demand diplomacy that brings justice, not propaganda that divides the world. Mus'ab then said that he believes rejecting Nick Adams is not a threat to Malaysia-US relations, but rather a message that Malaysia is principled, dignified, and does not bow to the geopolitical games of that country.

Malaysia: Ceasefire must not be tactical manouvre, urges permanent end to Gaza genocide
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has stressed that any pause in the ongoing conflict in Gaza "must not be misused as a tactical manoeuvre", and that "unimpeded humanitarian access is urgently needed to avert mass starvation", according a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Friday. Malaysia, the ministry said, "appreciates the latest effort to end the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza", in particular the 60-day ceasefire proposed by the United States and mediated by Egypt and Qatar, and "calls for it to lead to a permanent ceasefire". The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said Malaysia reiterates its unequivocal condemnation of the Zionist Israeli regime's atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, including the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure and the actions of Israeli settlers. "These constitute gross violations of international law," said Wisma Putra. The statement noted that Malaysia remained firmly committed to the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and statehood, with East Jerusalem as the capital, and calls for Palestine's full membership in the United Nations.

Struggle requires sacrifice: Chief Minister
Published on: Saturday, June 28, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jun 28, 2025 Text Size: Musa (third left), presenting the Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M Male Figure Award to Datuk Amir Kahar Mustapha as Hajiji looks on. Kota Kinabalu: Muslims are urged to embrace the spirit of Hijrah (migration) as a foundation for strengthening unity and determination in facing increasingly complex new challenges in today's demanding world, particularly in the face of global instability and international geopolitical turmoil. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the crises engulfing several regions in the Middle East – including Gaza, Iran, Lebanon and Syria – are not merely regional issues but have significant implications on global political stability and the wellbeing of the entire ummah. 'Ongoing wars and the Zionist Israeli military attacks on Islamic territories not only violate international law but also blatantly infringe upon fundamental human rights. 'This is no minor issue. It has the potential to reshape history and global geopolitics,' he said at the State-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M Celebration Assembly held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Friday. Hajiji stressed that Muslims cannot afford to remain passive in the face of new challenges such as Islamophobia, ongoing humanitarian crises and the worsening global economic pressure driven by the Western-dominated 'New World Order' agenda. 'We are facing challenges to the very civilisation of the ummah which demand unity, unwavering faith, inner strength and collective commitment. We cannot afford to be weak, divided or merely stand by as spectators,' he said. He said the spirit of Hijrah exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad SAW must serve as a guide in building a Madani society – one rooted in faith, knowledge, ethics, justice and humanity. He said the development of a Madani Ummah cannot succeed without a shift in mindset and a willingness to undergo a value-based transformation – from weakness to strength, from backwardness to progress and from division to unity. 'Hijrah is a struggle. And every struggle requires sacrifice – whether in attitude, time, energy, finances or principles. This is the spirit that must be embraced as we embark on the new Hijrah year of 1447,' he said. Hajiji also called on the people to embrace Hijrah through the pursuit of knowledge and technology, cultivating a culture of innovation, strengthening unity and enhancing charitable deeds for the collective welfare of the ummah. He urged the people to strengthen their resolve and intentions for the new Hijrah year by adopting change as a cultural foundation for personal, family, community and State success. 'The Maal Hijrah celebration is not merely about commemorating history but must serve as a catalyst for transformation and renewal towards excellence. Let us all embody the spirit of Hijrah and work together to develop the ummah in an inclusive and holistic way,' he said. Veteran politician Datuk Datu Amir Kahar Datu Mustapha who was active from 1986 to 2008 and once served as Deputy Chief Minister as well as State Agriculture and Fisheries Minister was selected as the male Maal Hijrah Figure. He received RM20,000 in cash, a trophy and a certificate. For the female Maal Hijrah Figure, the award went to Datuk Seri Norsuadah Basah, a former newsreader, announcer, and producer active from 1973 to 1978. She also received RM20,000, a trophy and a certificate. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Malaysia expresses solidarity with Iran, urges global action against Israeli aggression
KUALA LUMPUR: Israel has clearly shown disregard for international law by triggering conflict in the Middle East through its attacks on Iran, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan today. In his keynote address at the Extraordinary Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers yesterday, he emphasised that Israel has failed to adhere to the principles enshrined in the United Nations (UN) Charter. "We are gathered here today to express our solidarity with the government of Iran in response to the aggression and attacks launched by the Zionist Israeli regime. "These attacks have caused loss of innocent civilian lives and extensive damage to public infrastructure," he said. Mohamad added that Malaysia calls on the OIC to jointly mobilise its influence in response to any escalation that threatens regional stability and poses widespread global implications. "The international community and the UN Security Council must strongly condemn the actions of the Zionist Israeli regime, which must be held accountable for the ongoing conflict in the region. "The international community must not allow any actions that undermine diplomatic efforts or threaten global peace," he said. He reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through wisdom, restraint, and constructive dialogue.
