Malaysia expresses solidarity with Iran, urges global action against Israeli aggression
In his keynote address at the Extraordinary Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers yesterday, he emphasised that Israel has failed to adhere to the principles enshrined in the United Nations (UN) Charter.
"We are gathered here today to express our solidarity with the government of Iran in response to the aggression and attacks launched by the Zionist Israeli regime.
"These attacks have caused loss of innocent civilian lives and extensive damage to public infrastructure," he said.
Mohamad added that Malaysia calls on the OIC to jointly mobilise its influence in response to any escalation that threatens regional stability and poses widespread global implications.
"The international community and the UN Security Council must strongly condemn the actions of the Zionist Israeli regime, which must be held accountable for the ongoing conflict in the region.
"The international community must not allow any actions that undermine diplomatic efforts or threaten global peace," he said.
He reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through wisdom, restraint, and constructive dialogue.

Mohamad: GBC meeting focuses on Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire terms
SEREMBAN: The Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) meeting held today discussed, among other matters, the terms of reference for implementing the ceasefire agreement signed in Malaysia on July 28. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said he hoped that both countries would agree on the terms of reference discussed at the technical committee level before they are brought to the high-level ministerial meeting between the two countries on Aug 7 in Kuala Lumpur. "A permanent ceasefire agreement has been reached. We are now at the stage of outlining the terms of reference, which were discussed today at the technical committee level. We hope both parties can agree to the proposed terms. "Most importantly, we want to establish an Asean Monitoring Team to ensure the ceasefire is upheld. This would allow the two neighbouring countries to come together and ensure that their people can reconnect across the border as before," he said. He was speaking to reporters after attending the Negri Sembilan assembly sitting here. Mohamad also expressed confidence that both sides would have no major issues agreeing to the proposed terms, although they each presented some additional suggestions. Tensions along the border began with a skirmish on May 28, which escalated into a full-fledged armed conflict on July 24. On July 28, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in his capacity as the Asean chair.

'A permanent ceasefire agreement has been reached. We are now at the stage of outlining the terms of reference, which were discussed today at the technical committee level. We hope both parties can agree to the proposed terms,' Mohamad said. He emphasised the importance of forming an ASEAN Monitoring Team to oversee compliance with the ceasefire, ensuring stability and reconnection between border communities. Speaking to reporters after attending the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly sitting, Mohamad noted that while both sides presented additional suggestions, he remained confident that major disagreements would not derail the process. Tensions along the Thailand-Cambodia border escalated into armed conflict on July 24, following an initial skirmish on May 28. Malaysia proposes Asean monitoring team for Thai-Cambodian border
SEREMBAN: Malaysia plans to help establish an Asean Monitoring Team along the disputed Cambodian-Thai border to achieve a permanent ceasefire, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. The Foreign Minister stated that a general border committee comprising officials from both sides began talks on Monday (Aug 4) in Kuala Lumpur to de-escalate border tensions. "The technical committee will draft the Terms of Reference (TOR) so our plan for a permanent ceasefire along their border can be realised. The highlight will be on Aug 7 when ministers from both countries visit Kuala Lumpur, and we hope the TOR will be finalised by then," he said. Mohamad added that the TOR is essential to create a monitoring team to maintain peace in the area. "We want the situation along the border to return to normal so the people of both countries can live in peace," he said, noting that this would also lead to reopening the border. On July 28, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to an unconditional and immediate ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. At the meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai agreed to convene a General Border Committee Meeting as part of the ceasefire agreement following deadly clashes between both sides. Mohamad expressed confidence that an agreement could be reached as both sides have agreed to drafts proposed by Malaysia. "There haven't been many objections from both sides. Both sides have, however, made some additions to add value for themselves," he said, expressing confidence that a permanent ceasefire solution could be achieved. Mohamad added that the Malaysian Armed Forces chief has held talks with counterparts from both countries to achieve this. "This will further pave the way for the Asean Monitoring Team, which will include military advisors from Asean member countries to act as observers and ensure the permanent ceasefire plan remains in place," he added.
