I Want What They Have: Alison Brie and Dave Franco

'Creatively, I think [Brie] is one of the best actresses working today, which makes my job very easy,' said Franco, who, with his wife, is also a producer on Together. And while I hesitate to give men credit for being nice about their partners (likely thing for them to do, in an ideal world!), I do like how infatuated Franco seems to be with Brie; to paraphrase Mindy Kaling's mom, the best hetero couples are the ones in which the guy likes the girl a little bit more than the girl likes the guy. Obviously, I don't know anything about Brie and Franco's real-life dynamic, since my IRL familiarity with them as a couple is limited to once glimpsing them at a bottle shop in Highland Park and swiftly texting everyone I knew about it, but I've loved Brie an inordinate amount ever since she voiced Diane Nguyen on BoJack Horseman (not to mention her deep dive into the weird and wonderful world of '80s women's wrestling on Glow!). And while I'm not a fan of his brother James, Franco seems to be cut from a different cloth, though he's basically always cast as Douchey Frat Guy thanks to the haunting symmetry of his face. Perhaps my favorite detail of the Together rollout is the fact that distributor Neon is giving couples who see the film on opening weekend free therapy via the online service OurRitual (yes, we live in a late-capitalist hellscape). Personally, I am a huge couples' therapy stan after going into my first appointment with my partner fearing that we were already cooked if we needed a couples' therapist in the first place—we're not, FYI, and I was being extremely dumb—so I'm enjoying this little bit of mental-health-meets-movie-magic synergy. Here's hoping that Brie and Franco are, too.

A-list actresses casually board commercial flight in sea of stunned passengers

Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek had travelers doing a double-take in Mexico City last week. The 'Eternals' co-stars boarded a commercial flight over the weekend, according to a video shared via TikTok on Saturday. The actresses cut casual figures while chatting in the jet bridge on their way to Veracruz. Hayek matched her white joggers to her sweater, while Jolie opted for a cream top and coordinating pants. When fans asked Jolie, 50, and Hayek, 58, for a photo, they politely declined — but did pose for pictures while out and about in the terminal and eating. Social media users questioned the duo's public presence on the public flight in the comments section. 'Why don't they have a private jet?' one asked, while another joked that it didn't look like Hayek 'had stopped talking to' her A-list pal for days. The pair became close working on 'Eternals' in 2021. Three years later, Hayek starred in 'Without Blood,' which Jolie wrote, co-produced and directed. The latter gushed about the 'Salt' star in an interview with People last year. 'We do things together as a family. We hang out with the kids but also by ourselves,' Hayek, who is the mother of 17-year-old daughter Valentina, said in September 2024. Jolie, for her part, has six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17. Hayek went on to call their bond 'super inspiring.' At the time, she explained, 'A friend was telling me, 'It's the same life whether you laugh or cry.' And it's nice to have a friend where you can laugh and cry … and feel always safe.' The 'Ugly Betty' alum also gave insight into Jolie's eldest sons' roles in 'Without Blood,' revealing Maddox and Pax's 'very professional' mom-turned-boss was 'demanding' of them. Jennifer Love Hewitt breaks silence on Sarah Michelle Gellar feud rumors: We have ‘not talked' in 28 years

Jennifer Love Hewitt is finally addressing rumors of a feud between her and Sarah Michelle Gellar. 'I honestly don't even know what that was or how that all came to be,' the actress, 46, told Vulture in a profile published Friday. 'I just think people don't want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?' 'I haven't seen Sarah. Literally, we've not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out,' Hewitt explained, revealing they have not stayed in touch since the original 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' released. 'That's why it's so funny to me. People were like, 'Say something back.' And I'm like, 'What am I going to say? I've not seen her.'' 'On my side, we're good. I have no idea where this is coming from,' she added. Both actresses starred in the 1997 slasher alongside Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. — Gellar's now-husband. Hewitt and Prinze Jr. reprise their role as Julie James and Ray Bronson, respectively, in the latest sequel that hit theaters on Friday. Though the 'Cruel Intentions' star's character, Helen Shivers, was killed off in the first film, she shows up for a quick cameo via a dream sequence. The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' star and the 'Ghost Whisperer' star were both in attendance at the July 14 premiere. However, they noticeably did not pose together on the red carpet — adding fuel to the feud rumors. Following the event, Gellar shut down speculation from fans who claimed that the stars purposefully avoided each other at the premiere. 'The beef is real,' one person commented on her post from the event. 'It makes me so sad there is ZERO recognition for Jennifer Lover Hewitt,' another eagle-eyed fan wrote on Instagram. Gellar quickly responded to the critics in the comments, writing, 'For everyone asking — I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie.' 'I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened,' she added. 'And unfortunately JLH didn't come to the after party.' 'If you have ever been to one of these it's crazy. I sadly didn't get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn't change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online,' she concluded. Fans applauded Gellar for her explanation and responded back with kind messages in the comments. 'Thanks for clearing that up queen, was making me a little sad because I love you both so much!' 'Thanks queen, the fans deserved it ,' another chimed in. Hewitt also received praise after the premiere, but for her red carpet look. Her comments were flooded with fans and fellow celebs gushing over her red hair that she debuted at the event. 'I have wanted to be red for so long!' she captioned an Instagram photo showing off her dyed hair. '@nikkilee901 crushed this color! She named my color Sunset Lover Thank you' 'This is a yes for me. ,' actress Alyssa Milano commented. Meanwhile, her 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' co-star Tommy DiDario joked, 'Ravishing in red! Should I go red to match???' Solve the daily Crossword

Rachel Griffiths Says ‘Older Women Are Having a Moment,' Gushes Over ‘The Last Showgirl' and Jamie Lee Curtis ‘Dancing on That F—ing Table': ‘I Was in Awe of That Girl!'

According to Rachel Griffiths, whether it's cinema or TV, 'older women are having a moment.' 'We all know that's true: Demi Moore is a brand. There are so many great actresses of that generation. Take Helen Mirren in 'MobLand' right now, for fuck's sake. I loved Pamela [Anderson] in 'The Last Showgirl' and Jamie Lee Curtis dancing on that fucking table was the greatest moment I saw last year. I was in awe of that girl!' More from Variety 'Vanguard' Wins Series Award at Monte-Carlo Television Festival as Robin Wright Takes Crystal Nymph Judith Light Is Ready for Ridley Scott Exec-Produced 'The Terror: Devil in Silver' and for Women to Claim Their Space: 'Negotiate, for God's Sake!' Netflix's Cannabis Drama 'Amsterdam Empire' Gives Famke Janssen the Role She's Been Waiting For - and She Finally Gets to Speak in Dutch Directed by Gia Coppola, 'The Last Showgirl' focused on veteran dancers in Vegas. Griffiths isn't jealous of her colleagues' roles, however. 'If it's good, that means the actor is delivering. For me to go 'I wish I had it,' I just never have that thought. She's already inhabiting it. It's very rare that you're thinking: 'I could have done it better.' Usually, you're just bedazzled by the choices you wouldn't have made.' Recently seen in Sydney Sweeney-Glen Powell rom-com 'Anyone But You,' the Australian actor has become known for hit shows 'Six Feet Under' and 'Brothers & Sisters.' Joking about being in a 'pretty, dumb' jury at Monte-Carlo Television Festival as opposed to 'sad, serious' doc jury – 'We're here because we're unemployed. Come on, you can say it,' she said to co-juror John Reardon – Griffiths underlined: women watch television. 'I watch television when I'm doing the laundry, when I'm folding socks, when I'm cooking. You know, I didn't go to the cinema for years. I was too tired. Women are never going to stop demanding to see themselves represented authentically,' she added. 'We Australians, we fought in World War I with a poster that said: 'Free trip to Europe.' I came to a jury in Monaco instead – I had it much better than my grandfather.' During a chat with journalists, Griffiths – whose show 'Madam' was awarded at the fest only last year – admitted she hoped to see more diverse shows. 'I would say the selection was different to the broader palette of the stuff I'm digesting. There wasn't a huge amount of diversity in terms of ethnic communities. There wasn't a huge diversity of representation. That's probably just timing, but I wouldn't necessarily take it as representative of a litmus test of [what's happening] at this moment.' Griffiths has been working with Blackfella Films, founded by Rachel Perkins and focusing on Indigenous Australian stories. She exec-produced and starred in 'Total Control' alongside Deborah Mailman. 'It's very close to my heart. It makes stories better when their content is reflective of the places we live. I hope this rollback of diversity and inclusion doesn't impact our industry, because it makes characters more compelling, and it makes television more interesting. I hope it wasn't just one moment in history when we got 'Beef' and these great casts coming from non-Caucasian backgrounds.' In her own work, Griffiths refuses to 'feed the beast.' 'If the algorithm wants more 'angry' shows, I'm not going to start doing it.' But she noticed a new demand for returnable procedurals. 'The inclusion of a show like 'Good Cop/Bad Cop' [in the competition] shows people are trying to find returnable procedurals that bring you joy and do it in a fresh way. When I'm out pitching and having discussions around the world, I hear: 'Do you have an idea for a returnable procedural?',' she says. 'It's just so hard to make those limited series. They are hard to sell unless you have a big name, like Toni Collette or Colin Farrell.'
