Early morning fire destroys timber mill, workers' quarters and vehicles
KOTA KINABALU: A timber mill and workers' quarters on Jalan Kokol, Manggatal, were completely destroyed in a fire early this morning.
The blaze also engulfed four vehicles, including a tanker lorry.
Lintas Fire and Rescue Station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi confirmed that they received an emergency call at 3.50am.
He said 23 officers and personnel, along with three fire engines and the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit from the Lintas, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran Fire and Rescue Stations, were deployed to the scene.
"The fire caused the timber mill and the semi-permanent workers' quarters to be entirely destroyed.
"In addition, a tanker lorry, a forklift, a Proton Satria car, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle were also destroyed in the blaze," he said in a statement released today.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the fire was brought under control by 5.08am.
"The firefighting team is still working to extinguish the remaining hotspots," he said.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
