Minister S Savitha lauds Roots Health in Vijayawada for dedicated service to poor
VIJAYAWADA: Minister for BC Welfare, Handlooms, and Textiles S Savitha commended the Roots Health Foundation in Vijayawada for its dedicated service to the underprivileged and cancer patients over the past 12 years, describing it as an inspiration to society. Speaking at the Roots Health Service Awards-2025 held at PB Siddhartha College Auditorium, Moghalrajpuram, on Sunday to mark Doctors' Day, the Minister praised the Foundation's sustained efforts in providing quality medical services to a large number of people. She applauded the initiative of honouring 82 doctors who have rendered exceptional medical service during the past decade, calling the gesture a 'positive development' that would encourage further involvement in social service. The Minister recalled witnessing the Foundation's relief work during the Vijayawada floods. Highlighting the government's focus on healthcare, she noted that CM N Chandrababu Naidu has allocated Rs 20,000 crore in the state budget, reiterating his commitment to building an 'Aarogya Andhra' (Healthy Andhra).

L-G Sinha, Union Minister Goyal pay tributes to Syama Prasad on 124th birth anniversary in Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Textiles Piyush Goyal on Sunday (July 6, 2025) lauded the role of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, for integrating J&K into India on his 124th birth anniversary. J&K L-G Sinha announced to launch a two-year celebratory campaign to honour the life and legacy of Dr. Mookerjee and his role in strengthening national unity and advocating 'One Nation, One Constitution' for a brighter future of J&K. 'Mookerjee Ji was one of the key architects of modern India and a visionary statesman, educationist and fearless Parliamentarian whose ideals continue to shape the destiny of India,' L-G Sinha said. He said Mookerjee sacrificed his life for unification of J&K with India and was a proponent of 'One Nation, One Constitution, One Symbol' and opposed Article 370. 'His martyrdom in Srinagar while fighting for J&K's complete integration, remained a defining moment in the nation's history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled Mookerjee's dream 66 years after his martyrdom,' he added. Recalling the role of Mookerjee in integrating J&K into India, Union Minister Goyal said the Centre's decision of August 5, 2019 to do away with Article 370 and 35A finally led to the complete integration of J&K into India as envisaged by him. 'Mookerjee quit the Jawaharlal Nehru government as a Minister in 1953. He visited J&K without a permit and died under mysterious circumstances. His sacrifice, however, did not go to waste. After August 5, 2019, all laws are applicable in J&K,' he said. Mookerji died in a jail in J&K 1953 during the government of then J&K Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. No regional party or ruling National Conference attended any function organised for the Jan Sangh leader. Mr. Goyal also praised people of Kashmir for standing against terrorism and lending support to the 'Operation Sindoor'', which India launched after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead. 'People of J&K showed to the world that such terror attacks will not make this place stop. This terror attack was not only on tourists but also on the economy of J&K. Pakistan was given a strong reply through the 'Operation Sindoor' for supporting terrorists. Like Maoism, we will end terrorism too with the help of Kashmiris. There is a mismatch between what Pakistan says and does. Pakistan needs to take concrete measures against terrorists and their infrastructure and hand over wanted terrorists to India to prove they mean what they say,' Mr. Goyal added. Meanwhile, the Union Minister, during a separate function in Srinagar, said the Union Territory will soon get a dedicated design and packaging hub and a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence to boost the industrial and agricultural sectors. 'The Omar Abdullah government in J&K and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government at the Centre will jointly work towards reviving tourism and trade in the UT,' Mr. Goyal said. He embarked on measures to integrate J&K into national and global markets through value addition and sustainable development models. 'We are exploring a public-private partnership model to make the Centre of Excellence a hub of new technologies, product research, packaging design, and food processing solutions,' he said. He said his Ministry was exploring solar rooftop installations at the industrial estate in Lassipora, Pulwama, which has 10 lakh square feet of built-up space. 'If we use green energy for production, our exports can get premium value as certified eco-friendly products,' he said. He also underlined that there was a need to maintain a minimum import price of ₹75 on imported apples with a 50% duty to ensure Kashmiri apples remain competitive. 'We import apples worth ₹140 crore. But our own growers should not suffer. This must be a win-win for farmers and consumers,' he said.

Yogandhra attracting global attention: Savitha
Vizianagaram: Minister for BC welfare, Handlooms and Textiles S Savitha said that Yoga will ensure the wellbeing of the present and future generations and everyone should adopt yoga as a part of daily life. She attended a review meeting on the preparations for the Yogandhra programme held on Wednesday in Gajapathinagaram Assembly constituency. Minister Savitha stated that the Yogandhra initiative has garnered global attention, highlighting Andhra Pradesh's commitment to promoting health and wellness through yoga. She recalled that the International Day of Yoga was proposed at the United Nations in 2015 and has been observed annually since 2016. 'Yoga helps in keeping diseases at bay and enhances the quality of life,' she said, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as examples of leaders who remain healthy and energetic due to regular yoga practice. Minister for MSME, SERP and NRI Affairs, Kondapalli Srinivas expressed pride over Andhra Pradesh getting the opportunity to organise the International Yoga Day celebrations on such a large scale. 'Our participation in this initiative is a matter of pride,' he remarked, adding that it would help spread awareness about the importance of yoga among students, the public, and even elected representatives. He called upon all stakeholders to treat the event as prestigious and contribute to strive for its success. The Minister instructed that transportation arrangements, including buses, must start as early as 3 am on June 21 to ensure smooth participation without inconvenience to anyone.

State Govt extends Rs 50L support to martyr Murali Nayak's family
Puttaparthi: Andhra Pradesh Minister for BC Welfare, Handlooms, and Textiles, Y Savithamma, assured continued support to the family of martyr Murali Nayak, who lost his life in Operation Sindhoor. Honoring his supreme sacrifice, the Minister handed over a financial aid cheque of ₹50 lakh to the family on behalf of the state government. Murali Nayak, a brave soldier from Kallithanda village in Gorantla Mandal, was martyred in the recent anti-terror operation. In tribute to his valor, the government has also granted 5 acres of agricultural land and a 6-cent housing plot in Gorantla layout to the bereaved family. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Savithamma stated that a memorial worth ₹14 lakh will be constructed at his burial site, and a CC road from his house to the memorial has been sanctioned. She further announced that the village will be renamed after the martyr, and a statue of Murali Nayak will also be installed soon. Calling his sacrifice a source of pride not just for the district and state, but for the entire nation, the Minister expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the soldier's parents and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the family. She also recalled the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and IT & Education Minister Nara Lokesh to pay their respects at the martyr's home. She confirmed that the promises made earlier by the alliance government have now been fulfilled.

Stalin to inaugurate free houses for Irular families near Arakkonam today
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will virtually inaugurate free new houses for 41 displaced Irular families at Melpakkam village near Arakkonam in Ranipet on May 29 (Thursday), providing a permanent settlement for the tribal community. This comes after the State Highways Department acquired patta land, which were provided to the affected Irular families by the district administration, for the widening of Kancheepuram - Arakkonam - Tiruttani Road (SH 58) in 2023. As part of a compensation, the State Highways decided to provide land and build new houses for beneficiaries at a cost of ₹6.32 crore. 'It's a dream come true for us because, as a community, we have lived in roadside make-shift tents for generations. We are happy that our children will now have a safe place to stay,' said V. Mayan, an Irular. Accompanied by Collector J.U. Chandrakala, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi inspected the new houses and interacted with the beneficiaries. He urged Irular families to enroll their wards in schools. The Minister also directed officials to plant more fruit bearing saplings in the housing quarters to provide shade and as a supplementary income for the Irulars. 'Considering the displaced are poor tribals, the State Highways decided to build new houses for them for the first time. The new dwelling has all basic facilities like power supply, water connection, washroom and lights,' K. Mukundan, Assistant Divisional Engineer (ADE), State Highways (Arakkonam division), told The Hindu. Facilities provided Each house, built at a cost of ₹10.70 lakh, measures 355 with a living room, bedroom, kitchen and attached toilets. A community hall with a seating capacity of at least 100 persons and an anganwadi centre are also being built. It also has a temple and a protective wall. To ensure safe drinking water to the families, an overhead tank (OHT) with a capacity of 30,000 litres also forms part of the basic amenities. The pathways in the village are also being re-laid with bitumen for easy access by ambulances during emergencies. Highways officials said that widening of the stretch is part of the Chennai - Kanyakumari Industries Corridor project by the Centre under the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) that aims to connect key coastal cities like Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Kanyakumari. Funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB), the stretch has been widened for a distance of 41.77 km between Kancheepuram and Tirutani at a cost of ₹359.06 crore since mid-2021. The existing lane has been converted into a 10 m wide two-lane stretch with storm water drains, footpath, 18 small bridges and 124 culverts.
