Mazda Faces Lawsuit Over Persistent Brake Noise in the 2024 CX-90
In a move that could have significant implications for automakers, the owner of a 2024 Mazda CX-90 has taken legal action against Mazda, alleging the company failed to properly address an ongoing brake noise issue. At the center of the case isn't a complex mechanical failure but a high-pitched brake squeal—loud enough, according to the complaint, to cause public embarrassment and raise serious safety concerns. The plaintiff claims the shrill sound produced when applying the brakes is sudden, jarring, and disruptive, particularly during emergency stops. He argues that it not only undermines confidence in the vehicle but also creates potentially dangerous driving conditions. Early Complaints, Limited Solutions The issue first emerged when the vehicle had covered fewer than 840 miles (1,352 km). Upon visiting the dealership, the owner discovered that the service team was already familiar with the complaint. They initially lubricated the brake pads and calipers, which reduced the noise temporarily. However, the relief didn't last. On subsequent visits, technicians tried further remedies—polishing the rotors and pads, and applying materials meant to dampen sound and vibration. Yet the squealing persisted. Despite multiple repair attempts, the noise kept returning, prompting repeated trips to the dealership. During one of these visits, a technician revealed an internal Mazda technical bulletin from 2024 that acknowledged the problem. But there was no permanent fix—nor an official recall. Legal Action on Grounds of Negligence Frustrated, the owner filed a lawsuit in California, accusing Mazda of negligence and breach of its responsibilities to customers. He contends that Mazda sold a car with a known, unresolved flaw, and that the temporary fixes offered were insufficient. According to the complaint, he spent over $1,500 (5,625 SAR) trying to resolve the issue, with no lasting success. The legal filing claims that Mazda failed to inform customers about the defect and failed to develop or communicate a definitive solution—leading to an ownership experience described as both stressful and unsafe. A Widespread Complaint? Reports from other CX-90 owners suggest this case may not be isolated. Discussions on forums and social media show several drivers have noticed similar brake noise, often likened to 'metal scraping metal.' Some owners say Mazda attributed the sound to typical brake behavior in certain environments or as part of the normal break-in process for new vehicles. Still, critics argue that such explanations fall short, especially when the noise is so loud that it disrupts concentration and contributes to a feeling of instability while driving. From a Service Issue to a Trust Crisis While Brake Noise might seem like a minor annoyance, this case illustrates how seemingly small flaws can damage a brand's credibility. For the affected owner—and many others—what began as a service request has turned into a symbol of frustration, costly repairs, and corporate silence. If Mazda fails to respond with a transparent and lasting resolution, it may face increasing legal pressure, and possibly, a broader recall. What's at stake isn't just noise—it's consumer trust.

GM issues recall for certain Chevrolet Silverado models
General Motors (GM) has issued a recall for certain Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty trucks ranging from the 2019 to 2024 model years. The recall is due to a defect in the brake pressure sensor assembly that could result in a fire hazard, even when the vehicle is not in use. The recall affects an estimated 62,468 vehicles, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA noted that owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors until the recall remedy has been performed. The issue may be indicated by a 'service brake system' malfunction indicator lamp. The problem stems from an unauthorised chemical used by the supplier, Kodiak Controls, in the brake pressure sensor assembly's rubber diaphragm. This chemical can cause the diaphragm to degrade, potentially allowing brake fluid to leak into the brake pressure switch and associated fuse. GM's Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) made the decision to carry out a safety recall on June 5, 2025. The company plans to send the interim notifications to owners beginning July 28, and it will notify owners about the availability of a solution as soon as it is established. This follows a previous recall issued on April 13, 2023, under NHTSA Recall 23V-266, which addressed a similar issue where zinc sealant could fragment and cause a short circuit in the brake pressure sensors. In a related issue last year, GM also recalled nearly 132,000 trucks due to concerns that the tailgates could unlatch unexpectedly. Additionally, in the same year, the company announced the recall of 461,839 vehicles due to a transmission issue. Thousands Of Chevrolet Silverado Pickups Could Host An Impromptu Bonfire
2019-2024 Silverados Recalled Over Brake Issue A new recall was issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yesterday, affecting 62,468 vehicles that may be at risk of catching fire. According to the NHTSA recall documents, Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty pickups (4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD) produced from 2019-2024 may have a fault within their brake pressure sensor assemblies that could lead to a brake fluid leak. In the worst cases, after this brake fluid leaks into the brake pressure switch and causes a short circuit, a fire can break out. As a result, 'owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.' Chemical Issues Could Cause Fire Source: Chevrolet The recall places the blame for the issue on the use of an unauthorized chemical by the supplier of the brake assembly, and it appears to be something that GM has been working on for some time. A recall was issued in April 2023 to address a fragmenting zinc sealant that could interfere with a diaphragm that prevents brake fluid from leaking into the sensor wiring harness. Then, in October of 2024, a quality manager flagged an issue with a 2023 Silverado Medium Duty pickup 'that was exhibiting unintended brake pump activation.' This vehicle was not covered by the earlier recall, and when another similar report was filed over a 2021 vehicle, GM knew there was an issue. The automaker investigated in January 2025, and in March, it asked its supplier (Akron Rubber Development Lab) to test its components. Testing was completed by the end of April, by which point GM's investigator identified one alleged fire among 160 potentially related reports, prompting the recall. No accidents or injuries related to the issue have come to GM's attention. Only A Handful Of Vehicles Expected To Be Impacted Vehicles that were already recalled under the April 2023 notice will need to be repaired again, and owners can expect to receive notification letters in the mail from July 28, with secondary letters to be mailed once a remedy is available. When it is, dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness free of charge. Fortunately, although all owners impacted by the recall should play it safe and park outside and away from buildings, only around 1% of the recalled vehicles are expected to be affected. Silverado Medium Duty trucks from the 2024 model year are not affected since they were 'produced with a brake switch wire harness that includes a silicone sealant.' This new recall follows one that was issued at the end of last month for Cadillac Lyriq EVs that could have blank touchscreen displays, an issue that first appeared in 2022. Whether it's a novel EV or an old-school workhorse, recalls are just a part of production, and GM can at least take comfort in the knowledge that it's having a much better time with the NHTSA than Ford. General Motors recalls over 62,000 vehicles
America's favorite truck needs to go back to the dealership. GM is recalling 62,468 vehicles over the risk that a fault in the brake pressure sensor assembly may allow fluid to leak, increasing chances of an electrical short, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Thursday. An electrical short can generate excessive heat and could result in a fire, risking injury, the NHTSA said. It added that an underhood fire may occur even when the vehicle is switched off or left unattended. The defect was caused by the use of an unauthorized chemical by the supplier of the brake assembly that led a component to degrade over time, the agency said. The recall covers certain 2019 to 2024 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles. The impacted trucks are Medium Duty 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD vehicles. About 1 percent of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the defect. 'Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete,' the NHTSA said in a bulletin. 'Dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness, free of charge.' GM didn't immediately respond to request for comment. The recall comes as Chevy attempts to defend its crown in America's ultra-competitive truck wars. Ford also lays claim to the best-selling title in 2024 with its F-Series of trucks, which sold over 700,000 units. But the company includes Super Duty and electric models in its sales reports. General Motors — the company that also operates Cadillac, GMC, and Buick — has issued 13 recalls this year, according to an NHTSA bulletin. Its the first braking issue recalled by GM this year. But the Silverado has been impacted by previous recalls. In April, the Silverado was involved in a 600,000-unit safety bulletin that warned about engine failure. At the time, the Detroit automaker recalled 2021 through 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with 6.2-liter V8 gas engines. GM said two engine components may have manufacturing defects, potentially leading to engine damage or failure, even when the vehicle was in motion. An investigation into the manufacturing problem is ongoing. It is possible the defect could have contributed to multiple crashes and vehicular injuries. Despite GM's scary recall warnings, the American carmaker is hardly alone. This year, Ford is leading all automakers with 82 vehicle recalls. The next five most-recalled brands — Chrysler, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, GM, and Honda — have just 67 recalls combined. It's part of a years-long issue for the blue oval: Ford has led all carmakers with recall notices in four of the last five years.

Honda Recalls 184K Pilot SUVs for Potentially Loose Brake Pedals
Honda is recalling 184,253 Pilots (2023–2025 models) due to an issue where the brake pedal can come loose. The recall also affects two Acura models, the 2021–2025 TLX sedan (7332 models) and the 2023–2025 MDX SUV (67,448 models). Owners will be notified by mail and directed to take their vehicle to an Acura or Honda dealer to replace the brake-pedal assembly, if necessary. The Honda Pilot is involved in a sizable recall that affects 2023 to 2025 models. The issue stems from a brake-pedal pivot pin that wasn't properly staked during the production process. This could cause the brake pedal to become loose and possibly make slowing or stopping more difficult. Honda filed a recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier this month on June 12. The report states that 184,253 Pilots are affected by the recall, which also extends to two Acura models, specifically 7332 TLX sedans (2021 to 2025 models) and 67,448 MDX SUVs (2023 to 2025 models). Honda says drivers may notice there's an issue if the brake malfunction warning light appears, if the brake pedal doesn't feel normal, or if the taillights are illuminated when the brake isn't being applied. Acura Honda detailed the cause of the issue in its report to NHTSA, explaining that the unstaked pivot pin occurred ahead of moving production from its factory in the United States to one in Mexico. The U.S. site received increased staff to build more parts to help prevent disrupting the supply chain, but Honda says they weren't properly trained, which led to the staking process being missed. Plus, a system that was designed to catch the mistake malfunctioned, so the issue went unnoticed. Owners of vehicles involved in the recall will be notified by mail; Honda plans to notify all registered owners by July 28, 2025. They will be instructed to take their Pilot, MDX, or TLX to a Honda or Acura dealer where the brake-pedal assembly will be inspected and replaced, if necessary.
