Three students, van driver injured in Johor crash with cement lorry
JOHOR BARU, July 7 — Three children were injured while a female school van driver was reported injured when trapped in the vehicle in a road crash with a trailer lorry laden with cement near the Bandar Dato' Onn exit, southbound PLUS Highway here, today. Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer II KUP Muhamad Azizi Zakaria, in a statement, said the 32-year-old lorry driver and 19 other children in the van were reported to be safe. He said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at about 1.10pm, before a 'Fire Rescue Tender' and Emergency Medical Services (EMRS) Unit with a strength of 10 members were rushed to the scene. 'Upon arrival, the team found that there were 24 victims involved, with a male student and two female students injured. Also injured was the 45-year-old female van driver,' he said. He said the team extricated the trapped victims from the wreckage using special equipment, and all the injured were sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital by ambulance for further treatment. — Bernama

3 children, police officers and 1 other hospitalized after pickup driver crashes into Palos Park church
Three children were being treated at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn Friday after the driver of a pickup truck crashed into a church in Palos Park early Friday evening, police said. According to Palos Park police, the driver was eastbound McCarthy Road shortly after 4:30 p.m. when he apparently suffered a medical emergency and veered off 123rd Street, crossed 86th Avenue and into the parking lot of The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration before crashing into the building. Police said investigators were with the families of three children at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn who were being treated for their injuries. The driver of the pick up truck was taken to Palos Northwestern with Palos Park officers. Police said one church staff member suffered a medical emergency while the fire department was on the scene and she was taken to Palos Northwestern. Two Palos Park police officers were hospitalized for inhalation of smoke and construction debris while trying to get to the children inside the church, police said. Palos Park Police and village staff are working with the church staff and other agencies during the active investigation.

Three children were injured when a driver suffered a medical emergency and crashed a pickup truck into a church Friday afternoon in southwest suburban Palos Park, Illinois. Police said, around 4:30 p.m., a driver headed east on 123rd Street apparently suffered a medical emergency, and veered off the road near 86th Avenue, into the parking lot of Church of the Transfiguration. He then crashed into the church building. Three children who were inside the church were injured in the crash were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, but their conditions were not available. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital. A church staff member also suffered a medical emergency while emergency crews were at the scene, and she was taken to Palos Hospital for treatment. Two police officers suffered from inhalation of smoke and construction debris while working to rescue the children, and were taken to the hospital. The cause of the crash remained under investigation Friday night, and police said 86th Avenue remained closed between 119th and 123rd Streets as of 8:30 p.m.
