I work on a cruise ship – we can only buy drinking water 2 hours a day & there's a secret signal for folk getting frisky

MANY people assume working on a cruise ship is just like taking an extended holiday. However, Liv, a cruise ship worker, has revealed it's not as fun as people think. 3 3 Taking to social media, the Brit and her colleagues shared the negatives of working on a boat that would send people 'into a coma.' Liv said it started with 'the mess', a name for the restaurant they have to eat in. She said that in her case, she ate there multiple times a day and had the option of curry or salad. A coworker on the ship also revealed that to spend money on the ship, you have to use a special 'crew card' which can only be topped up in a two hour timeslot per day. The workers often have to buy drinking water so if you don't top your card up in time, you're in trouble. Liv added: "On a cruise ship, you live where you work. So imagine your apartment building is also your office block and there's no escaping Jim from finance. "He knows where you sleep." Another colleague said doing your laundry was a total nightmare, and if you're even a few seconds late, you can find your wet clothes dumped on the floor as impatient staff want to use the machine. Last but not least, the cruise employees shared how staff warn others not to come into their bedrooms if they are getting frisky. "When you're trying to go to bed and you see this," said one worker as he pointed to the door signs. 3 I 'live' on a cruise ship with my son & fiancé - the food's amazing, there's childcare & our laundry's done for free too To the left of the door were the name cards of those staying in the room, but if one was turned upside down, it meant they were busy with someone and you shouldn't come in. The clip has since gone viral on Liv's TikTok account @ pandltravel with over 240k views and 7k likes. People were quick to share their experiences working on cruise ships. One person wrote: "Do you have a union? Because that drinking water thing seems like a problem." Pros and cons of going on a cruise ship Whether you're considering a long holiday, working remotely or even living on board a cruise ship for a few months or years, here are the pros and cons from a former cruise shipper. Pros Travel the world, learn and experience new cultures Meet new people Don't have to think or worry about room cleaning, or food Cons Internet connection can be painfully slow and expensive Limited luggage allowance so have to wear the same clothes on rotation Having no control of where the ship would go next and the possibility of visiting the same ports Having the same onboard entertainment, on-demand movies, and little choice of TV channels No fresh newspapers or new books unless someone adds them to the library Relatively the same food week after week unless major menu changes occur seasonally. Occasional rough seas, bad weather and viral outbreaks while inboard. Another commented: "Working for a company that lets you eat in passenger restaurants and use the pools without any questions asked has to be my greatest achievement in life." "My number one problem with that is, what do you mean water isn't free?" penned a third. Meanwhile a fourth said: "Best place and the worst all at once!" Someone else added: "The laundry is a whole jungle."

Louis Vuitton unveils brand new shop inside a life-size cruise ship

Louis Vuitton has unveiled its latest landmark shop and this time it's in the shape of a life-size cruise ship. The new shop, in Shanghai, China is called 'The Louis' and will house retail, hospitality and an exhibition onboard. It might take shoppers a while to explore the whole ship as it spans a whopping 13,000 feet with two levels and 10 themed rooms. Pietro Beccari, the chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, told Women's Wear Daily (WWD): 'The Louis marks a step further into Louis Vuitton's cultural journey. 'Shanghai is the perfect harbour to stage such a daring fusion between retail, an exhibition and a cafe, crystallising an experiential place where creativity meets excellence.' The chairman added that the shop embodies the brand's 'spirit of travelling' through 'ideas, emotions and inspiration' in a 'cheerful way'. The Louis has a shiny metallic exterior and is emblazoned with the iconic Louis Vuitton logo. Its upper levels are in the shape of large zinc-coated Louis Vuitton trunks, a central concept to the brand. Louis Vuitton first started crafting its trunks for sea voyages in the 19th century, which coincided with Shanghai's opening as a treaty port in 1843. The brand says that the ship's 'boat-like structure' responds to the Chinese city's ethos of 'embracing all rivers'. Visitors will explore two themes in The Louis' exhibition, one charting the brand's maritime roots and one tracking its history. There's also a Perfume Room where visitors will be able to see vintage Louis Vuitton toiletry kits. A Books Room showcases writings from Gaston-Louis Vuitton, the founder's grandson. Ernest Hemingway is also referenced as the writer was a client of the fashion house. The Louis' Sport Room has ski gear, rackets and more items that were designed for major brands including Formula 1 and the Olympics. Visitors can also explore 'Workshop' and 'Testing' areas that explain how many of the brand's iconic items are made. Within these areas, visitors can speak to two Louis Vuitton artisans who lift the lid on the production process. The Louis debuts on Thursday June 27 and there will then be a 24-hour celebration, kicking off at midnight on Friday After exploring the exhibition, shoppers can head to the third floor to eat at Le Cafe Louis Vuitton. The cafe's menu has been designed to blend Shanghai cuisine with classic Western style dishes, reports Women's Wear Daily. The Louis debuts on Thursday June 27 and there will then be a 24-hour celebration, kicking off at midnight on Friday. It's set to open to the general public on June 28 with visitors able to book a slot to explore.
