Hollyoaks star admits 'I was embarrassed' as they discuss 'painful' botched lip filler
This Morning launched an investigation into 'cosmetic cowboys' who are putting people's health at risk by carrying out non-surgical cosmetic procedures without proper training This Morning has initiated a probe into the worrying trend of 'cosmetic cowboys', uncovering that 50% of women who have had non-surgical beauty treatments ended up seeking medical help. The ITV morning programme highlighted these alarming statistics this week, aiming to alert viewers about the increasing number of unqualified practitioners in the booming aesthetics sector and advising them on what to watch out for when considering such procedures. In a dedicated series of episodes, ex-Hollyoaks actress Sarah Jayne Dunn featured on Tuesday's edition of This Morning to share her own unfortunate experience with botched lip fillers. Sarah, 43, known for her portrayal of Mandy Richardson on the popular Channel 4 drama from 1996 to 2021, presented a photo of the aftermath of her flawed procedure and confessed 'I knew something wasn't right'. The star recounted: "Mine was lip filler, I worked in a beauty salon. I had my little boy, I was in between acting jobs, and my little boy was around I think six to seven months old", reports the Mirror. She continued, detailing the circumstances: "A practitioner came in to do injectables, had nobody booked in and offered me and the girls in the clinic: 'Does anyone want a treatment?' Naively, probably I was in quite a vulnerable place having just had a child. "You don't really feel like yourself, you want a little bit of a glow up, so I was like: 'Yeah, great, this guy obviously knows what he's doing!'". Reflecting on the incident, Sarah added: "Now, looking back, you know there was no pre consultation, no patch test, there was nothing. I didn't fill in any forms. "I had the treatment done and immediately when having the treatment done I knew that something wasn't right. It was painful, it was uncomfortable, I could feel sort of the filler going in. I could feel that something wasn't right." A photo of the botched lip filler then appeared on-screen, prompting Sarah to explain: "That was me immediately after so I sent the pictures to a doctor that I'd been to previously. The thing is, I'd had filler before, [but this filler] it was painful, it was bruised, it was lumpy, it was swollen. "I was embarrassed, you feel ashamed, I didn't even tell my husband. Obviously he knew but I went home and I remember sitting having dinner sort of feeling really uncomfortable. I didn't tell my parents and it wasn't until I had corrective treatment. "I ended up having filler dissolved and having it redone by a doctor", she added, highlighting the difficulty for those unaware of what to look out for: "If you don't know what to look for, where do you even start."
