Hollyoaks star admits 'I was embarrassed' as they discuss 'painful' botched lip filler
This Morning has initiated a probe into the worrying trend of 'cosmetic cowboys', uncovering that 50% of women who have had non-surgical beauty treatments ended up seeking medical help.
The ITV morning programme highlighted these alarming statistics this week, aiming to alert viewers about the increasing number of unqualified practitioners in the booming aesthetics sector and advising them on what to watch out for when considering such procedures.
In a dedicated series of episodes, ex-Hollyoaks actress Sarah Jayne Dunn featured on Tuesday's edition of This Morning to share her own unfortunate experience with botched lip fillers.
Sarah, 43, known for her portrayal of Mandy Richardson on the popular Channel 4 drama from 1996 to 2021, presented a photo of the aftermath of her flawed procedure and confessed 'I knew something wasn't right'.
The star recounted: "Mine was lip filler, I worked in a beauty salon. I had my little boy, I was in between acting jobs, and my little boy was around I think six to seven months old", reports the Mirror.
She continued, detailing the circumstances: "A practitioner came in to do injectables, had nobody booked in and offered me and the girls in the clinic: 'Does anyone want a treatment?' Naively, probably I was in quite a vulnerable place having just had a child.
"You don't really feel like yourself, you want a little bit of a glow up, so I was like: 'Yeah, great, this guy obviously knows what he's doing!'".
Reflecting on the incident, Sarah added: "Now, looking back, you know there was no pre consultation, no patch test, there was nothing. I didn't fill in any forms.
"I had the treatment done and immediately when having the treatment done I knew that something wasn't right. It was painful, it was uncomfortable, I could feel sort of the filler going in. I could feel that something wasn't right."
A photo of the botched lip filler then appeared on-screen, prompting Sarah to explain: "That was me immediately after so I sent the pictures to a doctor that I'd been to previously. The thing is, I'd had filler before, [but this filler] it was painful, it was bruised, it was lumpy, it was swollen.
"I was embarrassed, you feel ashamed, I didn't even tell my husband. Obviously he knew but I went home and I remember sitting having dinner sort of feeling really uncomfortable. I didn't tell my parents and it wasn't until I had corrective treatment.
"I ended up having filler dissolved and having it redone by a doctor", she added, highlighting the difficulty for those unaware of what to look out for: "If you don't know what to look for, where do you even start."

EastEnders fans slam ‘worst storyline in soap history' as they claim it ‘didn't need' to happen
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) EASTENDERS fans are fuming with soap bosses after branding a teen pregnancy twist the 'worst storyline in soap history'. Raging EastEnders viewers went online in droves, claiming the controversial plot 'didn't need to happen' and blasting writers for being 'so unrealistic." The hard-hitting plot saw Lily, played by Lillia Turner, fall pregnant at just 12, with the father revealed as Ricky Jr - sparking fierce debate among viewers and dividing opinion across the country. Many fans praised the show for tackling a sensitive subject, while others branded it 'unrealistic' and 'unnecessary' for a family soap. And some fans blasted the BBC soap for "normalising teenage pregnancy". Taking to an online forum on Reddit, one fan wrote: "This has bugged me for a while now - the fact that Lily, at age 12, still a kid, gave birth to a healthy baby with absolutely no problems whatsoever, for either her or her baby. "Lilys brain was still developing yet the Slaters saw it a good idea for her to become a mother at such a young age. "I find that absolutely disgusting, especially because Stacey was struggling to make ends meet during that time." Another fan added: "The issue with Lily's pregnancy is that at no point did anyone try to engage Lily in an adult conversation about what having a baby would mean for her life. "Lily just stomped out of every conversation she didn't want to have, and Stacey and Martin let her." A third penned: "Lily had a baby at 13 with a boy her own age, nobody really bothered to explain the risks in a meaningful way and everyone's just sort of moved on?" A fourth commented: "I agree, it was so unrealistic and it really p***** me off. No one told her the effects it would have on her emotionally or on her body, or how it would change the course of her life. EastEnders legend returning to Albert Square 11 years after quitting Walford – weeks after Zoe Slater & Max Branning "She adapted so quickly and it's irresponsible to portray a 12 year old getting pregnant this way. "Also Ricky lives across the road and never seemed to be helping." Meanwhile, the new EastEnders boss, Ben Wadey, is lining up several returns. Nicholas Bailey has reprised his role as Dr. Anthony Trueman - son of soap stalwart Patrick (Rudolph Walker) - after 11 years away. Soap's most harrowing teen storylines We take a look at other harrowing teen soap storylines from soaps Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. Belle Dingle's schizophrenia in Emmerdale - Belle's (Eden Taylor-Draper) traumatic journey in Emmerdale took a dark turn when, after accidentally killing her best friend Gemma at just 16, her mental health began to spiral. The storyline, which saw Belle struggling with her grief and guilt, showcased her battle with hearing Gemma's voice inside her head, leading to a dramatic decline in her well-being. Hannah Ashworth's anorexia in Hollyoaks - Viewers were horrified as they watched Hannah (Emma Rigby), a seemingly innocent teen, spiral into dangerous behavior, starving herself in an attempt to achieve what she thought was the ideal body. As Hannah's condition worsened, the storyline became more intense, culminating in her being hospitalised for two months as she fought for her life. Bethany Platt's grooming ordeal in Coronation Street - Vulnerable schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, was at the centre of one of Corrie's darkest storylines to date when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator. The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her. Whitney Dean's abuse from Tony in EastEnders - Since the age of 12, she had been in a twisted relationship with her stepmum Bianca's boyfriend, Tony King. The predator had groomed young Whit (Shona McGarty), making her believe she was in love and planning to run away with him. On her 16th birthday, the traumatised teen finally revealed the years of abuse to Bianca. Tony was swiftly sent to prison sentenced for 13 years. It comes as Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) recently made her long-awaited return to Albert Square. The legendary Max Branning (Jake Wood) is also set for a return in upcoming scenes. While Max's son Oscar has also returned to Walford, with the role recast to Pierre Mouiller. And Max Bowden is making a shock return as Ben Mitchell - two years after he was axed. The actor will get a guest stint in the coming months, with a possible full-time role if all goes well. Then-showrunner Chris Clenshaw gave Max the boot at the end of 2023 during a showdown over his party lifestyle. But he has been given another chance by the BBC soap's new boss. A source said: 'Ben had a list of characters he wanted to bring back and Ben Mitchell was one. It's taken a little while to sort out but Max will be back filming on Albert Square later this year.' In April, the new boss went to see Max, 30, in the musical Midnight Cowboy. The source added: 'Ben wanted to meet Max and see where his head was at. 'Things hadn't ended particularly well and Ben wanted to assure him this could be his fresh start. "Max agreed to return for a short stint after Ben pitched his comeback storyline. "But who knows what will happen? It really does depend on Max.' 5 Lily and Ricky found out they were going to be parents at just 12 years old in a shocking storyline Credit: BBC 5 Fans have slammed the soap for the lack of "adult conversation about what having a baby would mean for her life" Credit: BBC

ITV Coronation Street star shares emotional tribute after colleague's sad death
Antony Cotton has paid tribute to his former colleague Matthew Owens after he passed away aged 38, who worked on the set of the popular soap. Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton has paid a heartfelt tribute to his colleague Matthew Owens, 38, who sadly passed away. Matthew worked on the set of the ITV soap as a fire safety advisor and other BBC programmes. Antony, who is famed for his role as Sean Tully, took to social media to share a tribute to honour his pal. Alongside a photo from the order of service from the funeral, which confirmed Matthew passed away earlier this month on July 7, the actor wrote a touching tribute. He said on Instagram: "Today was a very hard day for so many people, especially Matt's family. I still can't quite get my head round it, to be honest. Matt was just a really, really nice lad. We met when he did the fire safety for a stunt block at Coronation Street, 13 years ago and we've been friends ever since. "He was a much-loved son, brother, dad, colleague and partner. He was also a quiet and humble, solid friend. I'll miss hearing from you Matt, out of the blue sometimes, but always with a smile. You are at rest now, no more worries, Matty Boy." Fans and friends rushed to the comments section to honour Matthew as reported by the Mirror, with one user posting: "Sorry for your loss mate. Condolences to his friends and family." One person who had attended the funeral added, "I did the funeral today, I was one of the family limo drivers, I saw how sad you were, gave you a little smile, very emotional day. So many people attended, you could tell he was very loved." Another fan wrote: "Just reading this news, I didn't know Matt had passed, really sad news. He was always so helpful and a joy to work with, helped me out lots with projects. Sending love to his family." Matthew leaves behind his partner Amy and his young son Freddie, 11. In an emotional tribute to the late firefighter, fire stations throughout Staffordshire put their flags up at half-mast. He served as a fireman at Cannock Fire Station. The Corrie set-worker also ran a company that supplied fire safety training, extras and props to the BBC and ITV. In 2013, he worked on setting the iconic Rovers Return pub ablaze. In the dramatic storyline, the pub blaze left Stella Price and Sunita Alahan trapped, whilst Karl abandoned Sunita in the cellar to perish. Matthew also even coached Corrie actor Tony Hirst on how to perform a fireman's lift for the harrowing scenes. Stella made it out alive and was rushed to hospital, however Karl later killed her when he removed her breathing equipment so she couldn't disclose who started the blaze. Matthew previously remarked about working on set: "It's all a bit surreal being there on the set and on camera. At one point we were standing outside The Rovers Return, just watching it burn. "Normally as firefighters, we'd get to the scene and be putting the fire out. It was unreal just watching the fire, especially at such an iconic pub. "It was a hard three weeks working on the set, we were there from February 11 to last Tuesday. The first week we were working all night, from 3pm to 5am. The second week was all days, doing inside shots and the last week tidying bits up."
