John Abraham Wraps Intense Scenes For Rakesh Maria Biopic, Film Eyes 2026 Release
John Abraham stars in a crime drama about ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, directed by Rohit Shetty. John Abraham is currently immersed in the shoot of an intense crime drama based on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria's life. The project, directed by Rohit Shetty, marks their first collaboration and is reportedly being envisioned as a grounded police procedural, distinct from Shetty's signature high-octane cop entertainers. According to a new report, the film is on track for a 2026 release. Mid-Day reports that filming initially began in South Mumbai to capture the city's authentic atmosphere. However, production has now moved to a controlled environment at Ellora Studios in Mira Road, where a police station set has been erected. Here, John is said to be shooting pivotal interrogation scenes linked to several high-profile investigations led by Maria during his tenure. A source told the publication, 'The South Mumbai portions gave the real-world texture to the story. Now, we've shifted to a more controlled set-up. Unlike Rohit's past cop action movies, this one is being mounted as a gritty procedural drama. We are filming the interrogation scenes of the many high-profile investigations that Maria headed." Daily production reportedly involves a crew of 50 to 100 people. The source added that the film will feature five elaborate action sequences, all likely to be shot toward the end of August. 'The post-production will begin soon. Rohit is approaching this one differently. It's not just an action spectacle; it will be a deep dive into the mind of a man who faced some of Mumbai's darkest chapters," the insider explained. John Abraham had earlier confirmed the collaboration in an interview with Pinkvilla, revealing that the film is an adaptation of Rakesh Maria's autobiography Let Me Say It Now. 'The subject we're talking about is a banger that'll blow people away. It's not just about two people collaborating; it's also about the subject, and that's unbelievable," he had said. The film tells the story of Mumbai's toughest crime cases through the eyes of one of its most respected police officers. Law college rape survivor 'satisfied' with Kolkata Police probe, Calcutta HC told
A first-year law student who was gang-raped, allegedly by an alumnus and two senior students on college premises, is satisfied with the probe so far by the Kolkata Police, her lawyer told the Calcutta High Court on Thursday. Police personnel seen as South Calcutta Law College classes resume amid an ongoing investigation into an alleged gang rape incident, in Kolkata.(ANI) According to Bar and Bench, a High Court bench of Justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De was informed so by the gangrape survivor's lawyer during a hearing of a batch of petitions seeking an impartial probe in the case. The 24-year-old law student was gang-raped on June 25, and the case recently sparked huge uproar. Her lawyer's submissions to the High Court came amid demands for a probe by a central agency. A BJP fact-finding team recently raised suspicion on the Kolkata Police probe, alleging attempts being made to save the culprits. The four-member team had also alleged that the names of the accused provided by the survivor in a written complaint were erased and replaced with letters J, G, S, M. "When the police have tampered with the complaint itself, which is the basic document in the case, how can one hope that the victim and her family will get justice?" former Union minister and ex-Mumbai police chief Satya Pal Singh was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The Kolkata Police's actions, like "tampering with the FIR and swift arrest of four accused", raise a big suspicion, he added. Four arrests have been made in the case so far, with Monojit Mishra, a former student of the college, being identified as the prime accused, and two senior students – Promit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed. Besides, security guard Pinaki Banerjee was also arrested after 'his replies were incoherent' during questioning. The student had alleged that she was raped by Mishra in the security guard's room in the ground floor of the college between 7:30pm and 10:50pm on June 25. During the hearing on Thursday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the Kolkata Police to file a fresh progress report in four weeks.

Kolkata gang-rape: BJP fact-finding team recommends central agency probe
A BJP fact-finding team has recommended a probe by a central agency into the gang rape of a law student in Kolkata, claiming the state police's way of handling the case raises suspicion of attempts being made to save the culprits. Panel member Satya Pal Singh alleged that the handwritten complaint submitted by the victim had been tampered with to remove accused's names.(ANI) Alleging a deteriorating law-and-order situation in the Trinamool Congress-ruled West Bengal, it has also recommended that a request be made to the Centre for some "effective measures" to control the situation in the state, said former Union minister and ex-Mumbai police chief Satya Pal Singh. He made the remark at a press conference on Tuesday as part of the fact-finding team. The four-member team comprising BJP MP and former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra, and former Union minister Meenakshi Lekhi, besides Satya Pal Singh, submitted its report to party president J P Nadda here on Tuesday. Sharing with the media the findings of the BJP panel, Singh said there were questions on the registration of the case and its investigation by the Kolkata Police. He alleged that the handwritten complaint submitted by the victim had been tampered with to remove the names of the accused she had mentioned. "Police erased the names of the accused that the victim had given in her handwritten complaint and put in letters J, G, S, M in place of those names. When the police have tampered with the complaint itself, which is the basic document in the case, how can one hope that the victim and her family will get justice?" He said the committee has recommended that either a probe by a central agency be initiated or a high-level independent inquiry by persons of repute be instituted to ensure justice to the victim and her family. Mishra claimed the Kolkata Police Commissioner (Manoj Jha) was evasive in his reply when the enquiry committee asked him to clarify why names were erased and some letters were put in their place. The Kolkata Police's actions, like "tampering with the FIR and swift arrest of four accused", raise a big suspicion, he said. Singh said the BJP committee noted growing atrocities and crimes against women in West Bengal and police inaction in many such cases. "There is a total collapse of law and order in West Bengal," he said. Slamming the ruling Trinamool Congress over the law student's gang-rape, Deb demanded that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee take responsibility for the incident. "She has no right to continue in her post," he said.
