Jake Paul's partner discusses possibility of signing Katie Taylor after beating MVP's Amanda Serrano again

NEW YORK – When Most Valuable Promotions was founded in 2021 by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, they struck gold in signing Amanda Serrano to a deal, making her the first woman on the brand. Serrano had already cemented her legacy as one of the GOATs of female boxing, and she has since signed a lifetime deal with the brand. But since joining MVP, she has gone 0-3 against Katie Taylor. Taylor completed the trilogy sweep on Friday at Madison Square Garden, where the rivalry first began in 2022. MVP has a stacked roster. Its second female fighter Shadasia Green won the IBF super middleweight title on Friday to go along with her WBO belt she won back in November. There, of course, should be zero regret in signing Serrano, who has represented the brand better than anybody. One could have mistaken the decibel-level at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, filled with a a Serrano-favored crowd, for Game 7 of a Knicks or Rangers series. After defending her title again to someone unquestionably on women's boxing's Mt. Rushmore, Taylor is undoubtedly the greatest female boxer of this generation, and maybe of all time. Taylor has been signed with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing since 2016. So, as Bidarian put it after Taylor's victory Friday night, "it's not really an option to sign her." But Taylor's last two fights, and three of her last six, have been promoted by MVP. So, might the door be open? "She's experienced working with us two times in a row, and I'm confident if the right opportunity comes up, she's going to continue to work with us," Bidarian said. "But I also respect that she's very loyal and has worked with Matchroom for a number of years, and she has to balance that relationship." Say what you want about Paul, but he has unequivocally put women's boxing on the map for all the right reasons. Madison Square Garden was filled with moms and dads with their daughters to watch an all-female card that set a Guinness World Record for most titles on the line in one single card. Serrano was emotional in thanking the crowd, Bidarian, and Paul for their support of women's boxing in the ring after the fight. So, if there's one thing about MVP that they can hang their hat on, it's that they've made women's boxing must-watch television, even if their star female fighter remains without that coveted belt she wanted so badly from her years-long rival. Rachel Lally: The Irish teacher turned pro boxer fights for a place in the world top five

Irish boxer Rachel Lally is set to face South African Wendy Gcado in Dubai on Saturday. Should the 30-year-old win the fight, she will break into the top five of the female super middleweight rankings less than a year after combining professional boxing with her career as a teacher in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). From Co Mayo, Lally took-up the sport in the lead up to the 2012 London Olympics. The Irish team went on to win four boxing medals at those games, with Katie Taylor 's gold sparking a surge in interest among girls and women. 'Women's boxing was really coming up,' says Lally, who trained at the Golden Gloves Club in her hometown of Belmullet. READ MORE She was 'in a tough place physically and mentally' when she started out and was 'unhappy in my body', but a year of boxing marked a turnaround for Lally. At 17 she became an under-18 national champion, with several girls from her home club also winning titles. Within an 18-month period, she lost three teenage friends in Co Mayo to suicide. 'It was just a really horrible time because we had absolutely no mental health facilities,' she says. Boxing became an important outlet for her as she coped with those tragedies. Rachel Lally has been doing 4am jogs before starting work as a teacher. Photograph: Hannah McCarthy However, the Leaving Certificate, followed by college and then a heavy caseload as a teacher in London, left Lally with little time to box after earning her junior title. 'I just wasn't prioritising my health at all,' she said. After moving to Dubai to work as a teacher in 2021 and joining a local boxing gym, a coach encouraged her to take part in amateur fights including an event for St Patrick's Day alongside other Irish boxers. Lally says the calibre of training facilities in Dubai is higher than in Ireland but they are much more expensive to access. 'I paid €2 a night to train [in Mayo] with people volunteering their time,' she says, adding that it is difficult 'to keep gyms open in small towns and there could be 20 kids in a tiny little room'. In Dubai Lally is 'training with professional guys, sparring two or three times a week and people come from all over the Emirates' to the gym. Photograph: Hannah McCarthy However, she says fighters 'can only reach a certain level without individual sponsorship'. The construction firm Rinrow, Capital Sky Limited and meal prep company, Meals On Me, have helped fund the cost of Lally's training camp before her fight on Saturday. In the lead up to her bout against Gcado, Lally has been doing 4am jogs before starting work as a teacher and then undertaking a gruelling after-work regime of sparring, strength training and one-to-one coaching sessions. 'That means no days off,' she says. Lally says that when she faced Elene Sikmashvili from Georgia and Cameroon's Marie Victorine Onguene Tsimi in professional fights, theirs were the only female bouts on the card. 'All my last bouts have been very tough, there hasn't been an easy fight,' she says. 'But I'm 30 now, I don't have time to do fights that aren't really challenging for me.' When she eventually hangs up her boxing gloves, Lally hopes to work with a programme that empowers girls and helps with their mental health through boxing.

Sydney Sweeney Details 'Crazy' 30-Pound Transformation To Play Christy Martin In Biopic: 'My Body Was Completely Different'

Sydney Sweeney is sharing the 'crazy' transformation and preparation that went into portraying pioneering female boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic set for release later this year. Speaking to W Magazine for the actress' new cover story, the film's director David Michôd said the Emmy-nominated Euphoria star gained more than 30 pounds to play the athlete, who put female boxing on the map in the '90s, covered Sports Illustrated and fought on Mike Tyson's undercard. 'I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.' Sweeney, who also donned brown contact lenses and a brunette wig fashioned into a mullet-like hairstyle for the role, added, 'My body was completely different. I didn't fit in any of my clothes. I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, 'Oh my god.' But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.' Amid production for the film last year, which has since wrapped, Sweeney shared the first photos of herself as Martin, writing at the time on social media, 'Over the past few months, i've been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I'm honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. more to come soon.' The as-yet untitled biopic, which hails from a script co-written by Michôd and Mirrah Foulkes, follows Martin's story as the first breakout in U.S. female boxing. The biopic will trace her rise to fame and the abuse she faced at the hands of her then-husband, who attempted to murder her. 'Our film is a wild mix of inspiring underdog sports-world story and personal saga. Sydney trained her butt off to play the part. The beauty of Sydney is that she turned up to work every day with her tail wagging, ready to go. No matter how tough it was, she was like a ray of sunshine,' Michôd told W Magazine of the project. Just this weekend, Sweeney and Martin were seen during the International Boxing Hall of Fame's annual Parade of Champions held in Canastota, NY, where the actress was the grand marshal of the event. Outside of the biopic, Sweeney just wrapped production on The Housemaid, a Paul Feig-helmed adaptation which she co-produced. She is currently filming for Euphoria Season 3, as well as producing and starring in Scandalous! — directed by Colman Domingo, about the relationship between Sammy Davis Jr. and Kim Novak. Her previously announced Barbarella remake is also in process. Beyond that, she will be seen in Americana, releasing Aug. 22, 2025.
