Woman builds cosy garden 'sanctuary' using a £300 IKEA purchase and sprucing up old furniture

A savvy woman has revealed how she used a £300 purchase from IKEA to create a cosy 'garden room' without splashing out thousands. Sarah, from England, who often posts home and lifestyle inspiration on her TikTok @hearts_at_claremont, shared how she gave her patio the ultimate summer glow-up with a pergola from the flatpack furniture store. She also spruced up old furniture and decor to instantly transform the space into a 'sanctuary.' 'We loved our garden room in our old house, and I really wanted to create something similar in our new garden,' she told the clip, which has racked up nearly 250,000 views. 'So, with a pergola from IKEA and some help from my lovely dad, I was able to transform this space quickly and easily.' Sarah went onto say the lightweight frame was 'easy to put together', however she struggled putting the canopy on. 'What I thought would be a five-minute job actually took a lot longer, but since we had mastered it, it was really easy to open and close,' she added. The influencer also explained how her dad drilled the frame down into the paving and put some brackets on to make it more stable in the wind. 'After giving the garden furniture a fresh lick of paint, I then added some established plants,' she continued. The content creator included a gorgeous climbing Jasmine and some other smaller flora to 'soften the look of the pergola'. 'I added rugs, soft furnishings, cushions, and candles and no space is ever complete for me until I have added some fairy lights,' Sarah said. 'I'm so happy with how this project has turned out. Our comfy, cosy little summer sanctuary.' In the comments, she revealed her old garden furniture was from Argos but added the The Cotswold Company have something similar. Many viewers rushed to compliment the incredible turnaround. 'Who knew IKEA sold pergola! Thanks for this it looks stunning,' one gushed. Another said: 'Well done you, a stunning and relaxing space.' Many rushed to the comments to compliment the mother on the very thrifty garden transformation Someone else asked: 'How much was the full makeover including the plants and paint etc? Thanks' To which Sarah replied: 'Hi I had all the furniture already so it's hard to say! I've painted it all even the sofa to make it all look fresh again! The jasmine plant was £55 and I got the Foxgloves etc from B&Q xx' A fourth added: 'Looks fantastic. Well done to you all. Enjoy whilst you can.' It comes after a DIY lover revealed how she achieved her epic garden transformation - and did everything herself. Jenna Weir from Scotland decided to transform her lifeless new build plot, achieving a brand-new look with DIY and bargain finds from B&M and Poundland. Now, four years on from getting the keys to the property, her garden boasts a 'Scandi chic retreat' complete with stylish decking, swinging chair and sofa area. Jenna had been quoted between £7,000 and £15,000 to transform her garden, but by doing the work herself she managed to complete the work for just over £1,000. Posting on her TikTok account @weir_home, Jenna shared a clip of the amazing renovations, admitting: 'I can't believe we managed to do all of this ourselves.' Jenna described how she managed to achieve the monochrome minimalist look without breaking the bank. She and her partner Callum carried out all the labour costs themselves, including fitting and painting the decking, adding furniture and decorations. The couple paid £200 for rolls of grass, and £180 for a new 6ft fence. The decking kit cost £550, but saved on manual costs by installing it themselves. Speaking to Gardeners World, Jenna said: 'A lot of my garden decor finds are from B&M and Home Bargains including the fence and decking paint which was from B&M. 'Our glass solar fence lights were a find from Poundland and our beautiful U-shape garden set was from a business local to me called Modish Furnishings who regularly do sales.' Describing the process of renovation, she added: 'When me and my husband moved into our new build property, the soil in our garden wasn't very good and the ground quickly became filled with weeds, so it needed a lot of TLC before we even started laying out grass. 'As we didn't have the finances at the time to start our garden properly, we opted to lay grass all over so we had a place to sit. 'We kept the original slabs the builder had laid for going in and out the back door and erected a 6ft fence for privacy to replace the 3ft one the builder had originally put in. 'After having the grass for nearly a year, we then started our decking transformation. 'The decking was erected at the top of the grass with a white stone border. We then began painting the fences with a stunning Cuprinol natural stone, as well as fitting a 'green wall' for more privacy in this area. 'During the renovation, we discovered we had a dead patch which ran along the side of our patio doors so we replaced this with large white pebbles and topiary balls before finalising the rest of the garden furniture and decor– and I still love the way it turned out!'

I stuck a caravan in my garden for an extra room with no planning permission – my grandkids love it & it's got a kitchen

A WOMAN has revealed that she stuck an old caravan at the bottom of her garden so she would have an extra room. Not only does Julie now have a cosy place to relax and a space for her grandchildren to play in, but she didn't even need planning permission for it. 2 2 In most cases, you do not need planning permission to have a caravan in your garden if it is used as an additional living space for the household and not as a primary residence or for business purposes. You won't need to get planning permission if a caravan placed in your garden is used as an extension of your home and it's also fine for temporary use for short stays and as a guest bedroom. Savvy mum Julie took to social media to show off her old caravan, which she calls her 'garden room'. The part-time florist and clothes addict, who loves bagging a bargain, confirmed that her caravan - which she has called Dorothy - is named after her grandmother. Showing off the dated caravan, the content creator beamed: 'So this is Dorothy - she is at the caravan at the end of my garden.' Giving her 23,700 followers a close-up look inside the caravan, which has been vibrantly decorated, Julie, who loves boot sales and charity shops, added: 'You go inside, we've got a little seating area which is good for the babies cause they can't fall off.' Not only is there a kitchen area in the caravan, which has been given a glow up with floral wallpaper, but there's also a bedroom space too. Julie proudly filmed around the small but mighty caravan, which is packed full with cosy cushions and decorative signs. She then continued: 'This is my little kitchen area and my grandson has ripped some of the wallpaper out today, so I'm gonna have to think about getting some sticky back plastic and putting it on there. 'This is the bed area where you will find me lounged later on this evening, reading a book or whatever.' I bought a 24-year-old caravan off a traveller to stay in with my kids - everyone warned me not to, but it's immaculate Julie described the caravan as a 'very calming' space and beamed: 'The kids love it here and so do I.' The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ flowersjulieby, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 54,800 views. Not only this, but it's also amassed 1,162 likes and 87 comments. Social media users were impressed with Dorothy the caravan and many eagerly flocked to the comments to express this. Alongside a love heart eye emoji, one person said: 'I love this.' Why caravan holidays are so underrated CARAVAN park holidays are a British staple. And with the cost of living crisis wreaking havoc on Britain's purses, more of us are turning to them for an affordable break. Josie O'Brien, Senior Digital Writer on Fabulous, weighs in on why she thinks caravan holidays are seriously underrated... WHEN I was a child, my mum used to collect the £9.50 holiday vouchers in The Sun. She'd use them to book a couple of nights away at a caravan park during the school holidays. As an adult, I fully appreciate the convenience of a humble caravan holiday. No faffing about with passports, no luggage limits and no bog-standard hotel breakfast of stale toast and grey eggs. I still love caravan holidays as an adult. In a world of doing everything for the 'gram, a caravan park brings you back to basics. There's no obligation to get dressed up, no stress to fit a million picturesque excursions in one week and I don't find myself flustered in tourist hot spots like abroad. I love going to coastal caravan parks and strolling along the beach parade. My highlight is always fresh mussels, ice-creams and classic pubs to grab an afternoon tipple in. And then, of course, there's the cost. Staying in a caravan is definitely way cheaper than my international trips. With no expensive hotel bills and the ability to cook my own meals, I'm spending hundreds less than I would abroad. I've had some of my best and most relaxing holidays in caravans. Maybe I'll buy my own one day. Another added: 'Looks wonderful.' A third commented: 'This is beautiful. What a brilliant idea! I'd love to do this!' Meanwhile, someone else chimed in: 'Looks really cosy.'
