Milan's Serie A home fixture against Como could be played in Perth, Australia

Milan's home game against Como in the 2025-26 Serie A campaign could become the first major European domestic league fixture played outside its home country, as plans to move the fixture to Australia took a step forward. Italy's football federation (FIGC) has given the green light for the match to be played in Perth – some 8,500 miles away from Milan – next February. The proposal moves European football into uncharted territory after previous requests to stage domestic league matches abroad were knocked back by authorities. The venue switch has been triggered by Winter Olympic Games logistics, with Milan's San Siro stadium hosting the opening ceremony for the 2026 Games on 6 February – the weekend that the game is scheduled to take place. 'The federal council gave a positive opinion to the Lega Serie A request to play Milan-Como in Perth,' the FIGC said in a statement. 'This brings closer what would be a historic trip abroad for a Serie A match.' The FIGC cautioned that the 'complex authorisation procedure' still requires formal approval from a number of governing bodies. Football Australia, Uefa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Fifa all have to approve the fixture relocation. Italy's FA approves Serie A request for AC Milan to play Como in Australia

AC Milan's Serie A clash with Como could become the first major European domestic league fixture played outside its home country after Italy's football federation (FIGC) gave the green light on Thursday for the match to be staged in Perth, Australia. The venue switch stems from Olympics logistics rather than commercial ambition as Milan's iconic San Siro Stadium will be unavailable that weekend when it hosts the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics on February 6. The proposal moves European football into uncharted territory after previous requests to stage domestic league matches abroad were knocked back by authorities. "The Federal Council gave a positive opinion to the Lega Serie A's request to play Milan-Como in Perth," the FIGC said in a statement. "This brings closer what would be a historic 'trip' abroad for a Serie A match." However, the FIGC cautioned that the "complex authorisation procedure" still requires formal approval from Football Australia, UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA before the historic fixture can kick off Down Under.

A Scotland win that 'should not be underestimated'

We asked for your views on Scotland's narrow win over Maori All Blacks in the first game of their summer tour of New Zealand. Here's what some of you had to say: George: A historic win that shouldn't be overlooked given the team we put out and played against. Defence at the end was gutsy, particularly given the harsh sin-binning. Should have been more ruthless in attack during the last 10 minutes and when they were down to 13. Some great attacking moves and we kicked from hand effectively, well worth the 04:30am wake up. Advertisement David: Scotland just made it over the line against the New Zealand Maori side but they gave up two easy tries by aimless kicking. Kicking just to get rid of the ball just gives the initiative away. When Scotland ran at the New Zealanders they created scoring opportunities, when they kicked the ball away aimlessly they were immediately under the cosh. When will they stop doing it? Alan: Great performance by a Scotland side short on experience in some positions. Despite losing the early try, once they regained the lead, they never relinquished it for the next 74 minutes! The defence was magnificent at times, especially in that last punishing few minutes! No doubt about it, this is a result to be proud of. Scott: This win should not be underestimated. A first win against a NZ representative side in senior 15s as well as on NZ soil; not only that, but with very much a development side. To a man each player must be proud of themselves. Gregor Townsend must take huge credit for this, developing these players and setting a marker now for hopefully getting the one last monkey off our backs and defeating the All Blacks themselves. Townsend out? No thanks. Jim: For what was a largely second string, it was an outstanding performance from a young team, they stood up to some big bangs. The handling and defensive effort was brilliant and a pleasure to watch, let's hope the regulars keep the momentum going for the next two games. The starting front row were immense, on paper it looked a bit light, they not only held their own, they more than matched them.

Wales v Netherlands: Women's Euro 2025

Update: Date: 2025-07-05T14:30:12.000Z Title: Preamble Content: Hello, hallo and welcome to coverage of Wales v Netherlands at Euro 2025. For Wales, today is a historic one. It is their first-ever match at a major tournament, a huge milestone for the nation. Despite being drawn in what many consider to be the 'group of death', Rhian Wilkinson believes her team can do 'something special' in Switzerland. Meanwhile, Netherlands have been in this position plenty of times before. They are no strangers to European glory, having won the competition in 2017 under the guidance of now-England manager Sarina Wiegman. When it comes to experience, Oranje certainly have the upper-hand. But, of course, anything can happen in tournament football. Kick-off for this one is at 5pm BST – join me!

30-year RWC celebration: SABC will cover 2nd Test between Boks, Italy live

Mike Hewitt/Allsport/Getty Images In honour of the Springboks' first Rugby World Cup win in 1995, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will broadcast the second Test between the Springboks and Italy live on 12 July. The news came after an agreement was reached between the national broadcaster, SuperSport and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) on Thursday. The match will take place at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, kicking off at 17:10. 'The 1995 triumph was a moment that captured the attention of the world – revealing the unmatched power of sport to bring people together, to heal deep wounds and to inspire a country that was still finding its feet as a young democracy,' said SARU president, Mark Alexander at the announcement. 'As SARU, we are working closely with our broadcasters to ensure that all South Africans can be part of this historic occasion.' Nomsa Chabeli, the SABC's Group CEO, said: 'The public broadcaster extends its appreciation to SARU and SuperSport for the spirit in which negotiations took place to enable us to broadcast this historic match. 'It is important that the SABC is not left out of key national sporting events, which bring the nation together, and rugby has been very instrumental in doing that. 'This agreement also highlights the reach that the public broadcaster has in universal access to the nation through its TV and radio platforms, as millions of South Africans will have an opportunity to witness this historic moment. 'We call upon all South Africans to tune in as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our Rugby World Cup win in 1995.' SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha said his company was honoured to be involved in the agreement. 'SuperSport is pleased to be able to contribute to the country's celebration of 30 years of Springbok excellence since that unforgettable moment in 1995,' Ramovha said after the announcement. 'That moment united the whole country, and we are honoured to be involved in helping unite the country once more around the Springboks. 'This year also marks 30 years of SuperSport as a stand-alone channel, and we are proud to share this milestone with the most successful rugby nation in men's Rugby World Cup history – the Springboks.'
