UAE: 4 rescued in Abu Dhabi after jet skis run aground in shallow water

Four people have been rescued after their jet skis ran aground in shallow waters off the coast of Abu Dhabi. When marine vehicles run aground, it means they have hit the seabed, with the vehicle occasionally getting stuck. The National Search and Rescue Centre, in coordination with the Coast Guard of the National Guard, rescued those individuals and transported them to the nearest hospital. The National Guard Command urged all seagoers to ensure their marine vessels are safe and in good working condition, to conduct regular maintenance checks, and to follow safety protocols strictly. It also emphasised the importance of carrying essential rescue equipment and contacting the maritime emergency line (996) in case of any emergencies.

Discovery Bay boater seen on video crashing into jet skier, docked boats

Katie Hernandez said she heard the boat speeding into the harbor, and she was shocked at what she saw when she came outside. "It was insane. It was like out of a movie," said Hernandez. She said she saw a dark-colored wakeboard boat inside the small harbor area near the Discovery Bay Marina docks chasing after a person on a jet ski. They were going around in circles, creating waves and wakes which rocked the boats at nearby docks. After a few minutes, the jet skier headed back toward the marina, and that's when it happened. The wakeboard boat ran over one of the people on the jet ski. The wakeboard boat immediately crashed into other boats docked at the marina. As the boat driver rushed to turn around and leave, the boat crashed into the boats on the opposite side of the dock, video shows. "The boat just sped off, full speed, out of here. High tailed it," said Hernandez. She said she lived in the area since she was a little, and recently, she said she has noticed a lot more problems on the water, especially with those who don't live in Discovery Bay but instead bring their boats in and launch them from the nearby marinas. "They want to go to ski beach and have fun, and it's just amateur hour, unfortunately happens out here. It's just not, it's not safe," says Hernandez. The Contra Costa Fire Department said one person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Katie said she's amazed no one was seriously hurt. "I thought somebody was going to die that night. I really did," she said. Now, she's questioning whether people are safe in their own backyard, the area right off the end of their docks. "I do want to have friends over, and have them come float and BBQ, but it's kind of uneasy now. Do I want to invite anybody over? It's just, it's terrible," said Hernandez. The Contra Costa Sheriff's Department said the case is still under investigation, but so far they haven't made any arrests in the case. Friends of the jet skier said he's pretty shaken up and banged up after the accident, but is expected to be OK.

Water safety a priority with Colorado Parks and Wildlife

AURORA (KDVR) — Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boards, jet skis, motor boats, ski boats, even hydrofoils, all have two things in common. They are fun and potentially lethal. 'There is always a risk when you are out in the water. Just like anything you do recreational wise, when you are on a jet ski they go really fast and boats go really fast as well,' said CPW Parks Officer Lauren Shaw. At Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado Parks and Wildlife rangers spend most of their days educating the public on water safety. Man dies after inflatable kayak capsizes in Arkansas River 'We are on foot patrol a lot on the shoreline here, checking even before you get on the water to make sure you have your life jackets with you. We also have to check in the parking lot before blowing up paddle boards, or maybe taking kayaks off the roof of the car,' said Shaw. Of all the ways one can have fun on the water, jet skis can be the most dangerous, according to CPW. 'We have a lot of jet skis or personal watercraft, and they accelerate very fast and quick and so that is what we are keeping an eye on the most.' Said Shaw. In addition to making contact with the public, CPW is hoping the public will make contact with the personal flotation devices that are being offered to use for free. 'These are from the Sea Tow Foundation. We were given a grant, so we have them for loaners for our park here, so if you forget them for the day, we can loan them out to you,' said Shaw. Even with all the appropriate safety gear, dry suits, flotation devices and helmets, a little caution, they say, can save your life. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. British tourist killed and their partner is seriously ill after falling from jet ski they were riding in the sea off Albania

A British tourist has died while another is in critical condition after jet-skiing in Albania. The 34-year-old man was confirmed dead by coastguards, who believe he lost control of the machine and came off his water scooter. A 31-year-old woman was also seriously injured and remains in critical condition in hospital. The holidaymakers were testing 'maneuvers' near the Kavaja Rock area in Durres when they fell into the water yesterday morning, it was reported in local media. An investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances of the tragic accident. The pair are yet to be publicly identified but have had their initials shared by the police - the man was S.O. and the woman was V.B. The police said: 'Around 11:15, on 01.06.2025, the Port Durres Border Police services were notified that, in the area opposite the Kavaja Rock, two citizens who were sailing on a Jet Ski, are suspected of having lost control of the vessel during maneuvers and fallen into the water. 'The Border Police Services, after receiving the notification, immediately went by watercraft to assist the two citizens who had fallen into the water, transporting them to the port, with the aim of transporting them to the hospital. 'Preliminary verifications by the hospital emergency team, which was waiting at the port, resulted in one of the citizens sailing on the Jet Ski, specifically citizen SO, 34 years old, resident in England, having lost his life, while citizen VB, 31 years old, resident in England, was immediately transported to the hospital in serious condition. 'A special investigative group was immediately established and, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, work continues to clarify the circumstances and legally document the case.' However, several outlets had reported at the time the pair were discovered 'during a random patrol' with the vehicle's engine turned off. They added that that it was possible to pair were suffering from hypothermia after they had been at sea for an unknown number of hours, according to information from the port. Another site has reported that the couple were from Ghana but lived in England. The horrifying incident comes only weeks after another British tourist ran in to trouble on a jet ski while in Thailand. Vincent Zammitt, 26, from London, was arrested and fined for allegedly sinking a jet ski off the coast of Phuketin April after he rented the machine for a 30-minute ride. He said he was allowed to set sail into the idyllic turquoise waters, despite the jet ski not undergoing maintenance checks. The holidaymaker was carving up water when the jet ski's warning lights reportedly went off 15 minutes into the ride. The alarmed holidaymaker steered the watercraft back to shore but it capsized, leaving him stranded at sea in shark-infested waters. A rescue team was called to the scene after he failed to return to the beach after 30 minutes. Footage shows volunteers arriving on jet skis to save Mr Zammitt, seen wearing a life vest as he sat on the overturned machine. But Mr Zammitt is convinced that the rental company set him up with a dodgy jet ski to fleece him - and that the police were in on it too. Phuket is among Thailand's most popular tourist destinations known for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife. However, it is also a notorious enclave of criminal activity, with greedy locals taking advantage of naive visitors. Jet ski scams have become a notorious money spinner for locals, with rental companies working in cahoots with a few apparently corrupt police to extort vast sums from holiday makers for non-existent damage to the machines.
