THE BUCCANEERS Recap: (S02E04) Ice Cream
The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 4, 'Ice Cream,' finds Nan and Guy reuniting while Lizzy and Theo have a union of a different kid. Give me all the messy love triangles, please. Sure, some of the buildup in certain scenes in 'Ice Cream' feels inorganic and inauthentic, but at least Blanche and Reede are super cute. And, let's be real, this isn't award-winning high art. It's a soapy period piece with contemporary flourishes. I can appreciate it for what it is. That said, it is somewhat jarring that these separate storylines feel like four different shows instead of one cohesive entity. RELATED: Read our recap of the previous episode of The Buccaneers , 'Get Her Out' The Buccaneers, 'Ice Cream' We open with Theo (Guy Remmers) rotting in bed after Nan (Kristine Frøseth) absconded from the Tintagel castle like a thief in the night. He's having an understandable depressive episode, and sometimes, those episodes morph into dancing around one's room to non-diegetic music, particularly 'Modern Girl' by Bleachers. Meanwhile, Hector (Jacob Ifan) hosts a fundraiser for a school. He's been raising money for said school for five years now. They're 300 pounds away from their goal. He thanks his fiancée, Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag), for supporting him before asking for bids for a vase. Mabel (Josie Totah) wastes no time loudly voicing her dislike for the vase (I love her). However, Honoria (Mia Threapleton) begins a bidding war with Lord Halcrest (Michael Jean-Marain), a buddy of Richard's (Josh Dylan). THE BUCCANEERS Season 2 Episode 4, 'Ice Cream.' Hector admits that Theo has never attended his fundraisers before. Later, Theo tells Hector point-blank that Nan is gone after the latter asks about her. He smiles to soften the blow, making Hector believe it was a joke. Of course, Lizzy knows the truth. RELATED: 10 Questions We Need Answered in The Buccaneers Season 2 Elsewhere, Nan reunites with Guy (Matthew Broome) in Italy. Initially, he's incredulous. He can't believe he's seeing Nan in the bustling marketplace. Then, Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) pops up with Freddie. She embraces her baby sister and introduces her to her child. Next, Lizzy asks Theo how he's doing. He admits it hurts that Nan left; however, he feels he can breathe again. As if he can finally keep his head above water. Theo insists his life isn't over. Lizzy asks the duke what he wants. After he gives her the once-over, Theo teases that he longs for another drink (to start with). Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Me a Match Then, Conchita (Alisha Boe) and Richard conspire to set up Lord Halcrest with Mabel. Well, more like Richard plants the seed. After all, they've already used Mrs. Elmsworth's advance to pay off some bills. Conchita looks hesitant to dabble in her friend's romantic life. RELATED: 7 Questions We'll Never Get Answered in The Great Season 4 Later, the Dowager Duchess (Amelia Bullmore) tries her hand at gardening after retreating to her cottage in the middle of nowhere. Ugh, I envy her. Reede (Greg Wise) drops by for an unexpected visit. She informs him that Nan is gone and Theo won't speak to her. It'll blow over eventually. Reede decides to help the Dowager — aka Blanche — smash some rotten pumpkins (but they weren't listening to The Smashing Pumpkins). In Italy, Guy and Jinny take Nan to their humble abode. Nan observes as Jinny and Guy tend to Freddie. After this, Nan asks Jinny if the latter is in love with Guy. Jinny's living the life Nan wants (minus the 'being on the run' bit). Jinny reassures Nan that this isn't the case. Despite this suspicion, Nan insists she'd do it all again — marry a duke to save Jinny's life. THE BUCCANEERS Season 2 Episode 4, 'Ice Cream.' Photo courtesy of Apple TV+. Lord Boring Meanwhile, Richard pulls Mabel into a badminton game. She would play with Lord Halcrest against Conchita and Richard. Mabel's knack for racket sports is known the world over. During the game, Conchita and Richard notice that Mabel and Lord Halcrest seem to be getting on. Once it ends, though, Mabel is content to return to Honoria's side. She's uninterested in entertaining 'Lord Boring.' RELATED: Read our Bridgerton recaps Mabel asks Honoria if she pined for her. Honoria not-so-subtly hints that Conchita and Richard were trying to play matchmaker with Mabel and Lord Halcrest. Of course, Mabel's one and only is Honoria. At the same time, Jinny informs Guy and Nan that she's out of milk for Freddie. Both volunteer simultaneously to fetch some for her. Jinny believes they should go together so they can sort their sh*t out (not her words). Later, Guy gives Nan a tour of the town. Nan calls Guy out for acting strangely around her. Guy states that her visit caught him by surprise. Sure, he asked her to join him, but that was months ago. He assumed her lack of a response was a response. THE BUCCANEERS Season 2 Episode 4, 'Ice Cream.' Photo courtesy of Apple TV+. You Know Why The argument pivots to the sacrifices they've both made to save Jinny. Guy calls out Nan for being 'entitled' after she diminishes his sacrifice because he's living in paradise. After tempers cool, Guy claims he couldn't believe his eyes in the market today. He sees Nan everywhere, so the genuine article standing before him took him aback. Nan suggests they get ice cream. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: The Buccaneers ' Lizzy Elmsworth Then, Lizzy and Hector have their first argument. Hector is frustrated because Theo's stealing all the attention at his fundraiser for the school. Lizzy reminds her fiancé that it's not about this secret rivalry between Hector and Theo — it's about the school. Tempers flare, so Lizzy storms off. Next, Theo finds Lizzy. Lizzy confronts Theo regarding his presence today. He's not there to support the school; it's about his bruised ego. Lizzy demands to know why he's here. 'You know why,' Theo responds. They kiss. After a few seconds of passionate smooching, Lizzy breaks away. She insists she must get back to the party. Wine for the Heartbreak Elsewhere, Blanche and Reede chat about what's next. Blanche supposes they'll have to wait for Nan to return. Reede tells her about how he nursed the heartbreak of losing her all those years ago with a case of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This gives Blanche an idea. RELATED: Read our Dickinson recaps Guy and Nan realize the ice cream place is closed. Meanwhile, Jinny hears a knock on the door. Unfortunately, it's Seadown (Barney Fishwick). Jinny tries to slam the door in his face, but he catches it. Uh-oh. At the same time, Lizzy barrels toward Hector after her clandestine kiss with Theo. Mabel asks her if there's anything amiss. She brushes Mabel off. Then, Mabel notes Theo watching them from afar. She seemingly begins to put two and two together. Hector apologizes to Lizzy for being selfish and shortsighted. He's grateful to Lizzy for keeping him levelheaded. RELATED: TV Review: The Serpent Queen Season 2 It's Us In Italy, Seadown holds Freddie, much to Jinny's terror. Seadown tries to appeal to Jinny's sensibilities. He thanks her for taking care of their son. Seadown asks Jinny about his name, which she refuses to disclose. Then, he pivots, claiming that Jinny makes him a better man. Seadown claims he 'seemed hard-hearted in the past,' which is as close to an apology as he will ever get. And it's still not an apology. Seadown claims he loves Jinny and wants to be a father to their son. Jinny asks him to leave. Before he departs, Seadown leaves the name and address of his hotel. Jinny can meet him there to talk. Blanche politely declines, stating that she must remain nearby for Theo. He might not think he needs her, but he will. Next, Paloma (Grace Ambrose) catches Guy and Nan holding hands as they leave the wedding. Naturally, she's suspicious. She assumed Guy and Jinny were married. Guy takes Nan to a secluded spot by the water, where they finally kiss. In England, Hector bids farewell to Lizzy, seeing her to her carriage. He hopes Lizzy is happy. Lizzy looks pensive, but she reassures him that she has every reason to be happy. He kisses her hand before they part ways. Jinny stayed up all night, painstakingly mulling over her options. She starts packing her belongings while reassuring Freddie that Nan will save them. Then, she spots Guy and Nan outside, dancing and laughing. It's now early the next morning. Lorde's latest 'love triangle': As singer's new partner leaves his girlfriend of six years, the scandalous rumours of star's past with Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham are resurfaced by fans
From Fleetwood Mac to Eric Clapton, some of the best art has come out of messy love triangles - and Lorde, who has a new album out, is rumoured to have been embroiled in not one but two romantic feuds over the years. As the musician, 28, recently 'went public' with producer Jim E-Stack, 33, with the pair reportedly packing on the PDA at Glastonbury over the weekend, his ex Kacy Hill, 31, appeared to hint that he left their six-and-a-half-year relationship after working on the New Zealand singer's record. The savage dig was reminiscent of yet another amorous 'rivalry' between the Kiwi artist, industry mogul Jack Antonoff, 41, and his former girlfriend Lena Dunham, 39. But while all the parties have denied bizarre speculation that the Bleachers front-man cheated on Lena with Lorde, some dedicated fans are still convinced something happened - with one even creating a detailed PowerPoint to make their case. The document - which insisted that Lorde's album Meodrama (produced by Jack and recorded largely in the apartment-dash-studio he shared with Lena) offered an insight into the alleged 'affair' - went viral. In a series of rambles, it posited that Lorde and Jack got together in April 2016; just months before Jack and Lena's split in December 2017, after five years of dating. The slides also included a 'timeline', stating that Lorde and Jack met sometime around 2014 to 2015, whereas Jack and Lena are understood to have started their relationship around 2012. It summarised reports - made in January 2018, which claimed that Jack was 'seeing someone else', as per US Weekly - as well as the follow up that just one month later, he and Lorde were spotted looking cosy and hugging while strolling in her native Auckland, where his band was opening for Paramore. Speaking to The Cut in 2018, Lena praised user @buzzkillary, who was behind the project. 'Actually, I completely respect this girl, because she did a very good job and she was very funny,' she quipped - albeit admitting that 'it was so embarrassing'. 'It was awful because I felt like a weird... I don't think anything happened between them. I can never know someone else's life. I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it,' she continued. 'We haven't talked since Jack and I broke up. It was awful, and I couldn't do anything about it except trust that what he was saying to me was true.' Jack and Lorde, meanwhile, have both rubbished rumours that anything romantic between them ever happened, both taking to social media that same year. 'Normally I would never address rumors but I resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip,' the producer penned. 'Those relationships are deeply important and sacred. With that said, I'm not seeing anyone. lol.' 'Guys… Jack and I are not dating, for the last time,' Lorde also wrote on X. 'I love him, he's awesome, but we're not dating! Please!' In July 2021, Lorde went so far as to tell Ash London Live on Australia's Hit Network that she sees him as a 'platonic husband'. 'Jack's and my relationship is really deep and is like a marriage in some ways - a platonic marriage,' she explained. 'We're in it for life I think at this point. We've been very close for five or six years now. We don't seem to get sick of each other. But who knows, anything could happen.' Lorde set the record straight once again, a few months later, in an interview with The New York Times. She had hit back at the 'growing narrative' concerning her connection Jack following his involvement in her album Solar Power that year. The singer, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, said it was 'insulting' and 'sexist' for critics to refer to Solar Power as 'a Jack Antonoff record'. 'I haven't made a Jack Antonoff record. I've made a Lorde record and he's helped me make it and very much deferred to me on production and arrangement,' she added. 'Jack would agree with this. To give him that amount of credit is frankly insulting.' Lorde then criticised the speculation surrounding her personal relationship with Jack, as well as the idea she's part of his so-called 'stable' of female collaborators. She called the discussion around the subject - which has also included speculation about the pair's romantic and sexual life - 'retro' and 'sexist'. Needless to say all seems to be history - as Jack married actress Margaret Qualley in 2023, while Lena wed musician Luis Felber in 2021. Lorde meanwhile, looks to have confirmed romance rumours with producer Jim E-Stack over the Glastonbury weekend. According to The Sun, the Teams hitmaker was spotted 'getting close with the musician on stage' after playing a surprise set at the Woodsies stage on Friday. It was also reported that the pair were seen 'with their arms around each other while they watched The 1975' and went on 'partying until well after 4am'. MailOnline contacted Lorde's representatives for a comment at the time. Amid the blossoming romance however, Jim's ex-girlfriend Kacy Hill - an American singer - appeared to throw shade as in a TikTok she revealed that her six-and-a-half year relationship came to an end when he started working with Lorde on her single Man Of The Year. 'Let's hear it for the man who ended a 6.5 year relationship while making a girl's album then started dating her,' she quipped. A source told the publication: 'Lorde is really happy with Jim after they bonded making the album. 'But there was no overlap and she was very respectful.' The Royals singer and Jim were previously linked in October 2024 when the pair were seen making a rare public outing in New York. At the time, Lorde wasn't been pictured with her music executive boyfriend Justin Warren since March 2023. The pair began fuelling rumours they are working on a new album together after Jim-E shared a photo of Lorde to Instagram in August. Last weekend at Glasto, he singer - who previously graced The Pyramid stage in 2022 - performed all of her biggest hits from Ribs to Green Light, as well as a rendition of her new album. Wearing her jet black hair down, Lorde sported an all-white look for the occasion consisting of a pair of straight leg jeans and a plain T-shirt. While belting out her lyrics, Lorde put her abs on full display as she lifted her T-shirt up to reveal her bra. She later stripped out of the T-shirt, laying bare her impressive figure and sending thousands of supporters wild. 'Moooorning', she greeted the crowd, 'this is sick'. And it seems her performance didn't disappoint, with a host of festival-goers taking to X to praise the popstar. Supporters described the show as 'out of this world', 'utterly euphoric' and 'brilliant'.

The Pizza Interview: Chris Evans and Dakota Johnson
The two stars of the movie 'Materialists,' visited The New York Times Cooking studio to make pizzas and talk love triangles. Taylor Miller for The New York Times Published June 16, 2025 Updated June 16, 2025 Welcome to the Pizza Interview, a new series from New York Times Cooking in which we interview notable guests with a catch: They have to make pizza. Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans, two stars of the movie 'Materialists,' visited The New York Times Cooking studio last week to make pizzas and talk love triangles. In the film, Ms. Johnson plays a matchmaker torn between her ex-boyfriend, played by Mr. Evans, and a charming millionaire played by Pedro Pascal. Watch the video and read below for excerpts from the outtakes, which have been edited and condensed. Chris Evans: No, I've never made pizza. Dakota Johnson: No. Evans: That's not true. I've made English muffin pizzas, but I was 12. Johnson: What? That's not a thing. Evans: You know, English muffin pizzas? After school? Johnson: That's like a Boston thing. Evans: Can't you tell? No, I have not. No. Johnson: I can't remember. Johnson: Yes. Evans: I'm a good helper. I like to chop stuff. My wife is an incredible cook. I do like to clean as she goes. That brings me joy. Evans: I'm a big fan of this place called Leone's in Boston. Johnson: Of course he's going to say Boston. That's so crazy. I'm going to say Arturo's. Evans: That's a tough one. I don't want to name some because some of the pizza I grew up with were great, and some of them have fallen off. Johnson: I feel like we should get paid to name pizza chains. Evans: Not one that I knew about! I don't think so. And if I was, it's probably because I wasn't the one chosen. Johnson: There's a real-life love triangle between me, Pedro and Chris. But it's more of a hate triangle. Evans: Pedro's just playing hard to get right now. Evans: Does a daiquiri count? He's fun! He's colorful and exciting. Johnson: Flan. Evans: Flan! Don't ask what food dish I would be. Johnson: Actually, you would be flan, and he's like crème brûlée. He's crème brûlée because he's tough on the outside, but then, when you crack in there, he's just soft little sweetness. Johnson: Kindness. Evans: Kindness. I think if you love animals, that's really important. Specifically dogs. I like big holiday celebrations. I like making a big deal. Johnson: You do love Christmas. Evans: Christmas, Halloween, whatever! I like making an effort and having some fun. Being festive. So yeah, no one too cynical.
