Lorde's latest 'love triangle': As singer's new partner leaves his girlfriend of six years, the scandalous rumours of star's past with Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham are resurfaced by fans

Daily Mail3 days ago
From Fleetwood Mac to Eric Clapton, some of the best art has come out of messy love triangles - and Lorde, who has a new album out, is rumoured to have been embroiled in not one but two romantic feuds over the years.
As the musician, 28, recently 'went public' with producer Jim E-Stack, 33, with the pair reportedly packing on the PDA at Glastonbury over the weekend, his ex Kacy Hill, 31, appeared to hint that he left their six-and-a-half-year relationship after working on the New Zealand singer's record.
The savage dig was reminiscent of yet another amorous 'rivalry' between the Kiwi artist, industry mogul Jack Antonoff, 41, and his former girlfriend Lena Dunham, 39.
But while all the parties have denied bizarre speculation that the Bleachers front-man cheated on Lena with Lorde, some dedicated fans are still convinced something happened - with one even creating a detailed PowerPoint to make their case.
The document - which insisted that Lorde's album Meodrama (produced by Jack and recorded largely in the apartment-dash-studio he shared with Lena) offered an insight into the alleged 'affair' - went viral.
In a series of rambles, it posited that Lorde and Jack got together in April 2016; just months before Jack and Lena's split in December 2017, after five years of dating.
The slides also included a 'timeline', stating that Lorde and Jack met sometime around 2014 to 2015, whereas Jack and Lena are understood to have started their relationship around 2012.
It summarised reports - made in January 2018, which claimed that Jack was 'seeing someone else', as per US Weekly - as well as the follow up that just one month later, he and Lorde were spotted looking cosy and hugging while strolling in her native Auckland, where his band was opening for Paramore.
Speaking to The Cut in 2018, Lena praised user @buzzkillary, who was behind the project.
'Actually, I completely respect this girl, because she did a very good job and she was very funny,' she quipped - albeit admitting that 'it was so embarrassing'.
'It was awful because I felt like a weird... I don't think anything happened between them. I can never know someone else's life. I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it,' she continued.
'We haven't talked since Jack and I broke up. It was awful, and I couldn't do anything about it except trust that what he was saying to me was true.'
Jack and Lorde, meanwhile, have both rubbished rumours that anything romantic between them ever happened, both taking to social media that same year.
'Normally I would never address rumors but I resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip,' the producer penned.
'Those relationships are deeply important and sacred. With that said, I'm not seeing anyone. lol.'
'Guys… Jack and I are not dating, for the last time,' Lorde also wrote on X. 'I love him, he's awesome, but we're not dating! Please!'
In July 2021, Lorde went so far as to tell Ash London Live on Australia's Hit Network that she sees him as a 'platonic husband'.
'Jack's and my relationship is really deep and is like a marriage in some ways - a platonic marriage,' she explained.
'We're in it for life I think at this point. We've been very close for five or six years now. We don't seem to get sick of each other. But who knows, anything could happen.'
Lorde set the record straight once again, a few months later, in an interview with The New York Times.
She had hit back at the 'growing narrative' concerning her connection Jack following his involvement in her album Solar Power that year.
The singer, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, said it was 'insulting' and 'sexist' for critics to refer to Solar Power as 'a Jack Antonoff record'.
'I haven't made a Jack Antonoff record. I've made a Lorde record and he's helped me make it and very much deferred to me on production and arrangement,' she added.
'Jack would agree with this. To give him that amount of credit is frankly insulting.'
Lorde then criticised the speculation surrounding her personal relationship with Jack, as well as the idea she's part of his so-called 'stable' of female collaborators.
She called the discussion around the subject - which has also included speculation about the pair's romantic and sexual life - 'retro' and 'sexist'.
Needless to say all seems to be history - as Jack married actress Margaret Qualley in 2023, while Lena wed musician Luis Felber in 2021.
Lorde meanwhile, looks to have confirmed romance rumours with producer Jim E-Stack over the Glastonbury weekend.
According to The Sun, the Teams hitmaker was spotted 'getting close with the musician on stage' after playing a surprise set at the Woodsies stage on Friday.
It was also reported that the pair were seen 'with their arms around each other while they watched The 1975' and went on 'partying until well after 4am'.
MailOnline contacted Lorde's representatives for a comment at the time.
Amid the blossoming romance however, Jim's ex-girlfriend Kacy Hill - an American singer - appeared to throw shade as in a TikTok she revealed that her six-and-a-half year relationship came to an end when he started working with Lorde on her single Man Of The Year.
'Let's hear it for the man who ended a 6.5 year relationship while making a girl's album then started dating her,' she quipped.
A source told the publication: 'Lorde is really happy with Jim after they bonded making the album.
'But there was no overlap and she was very respectful.'
The Royals singer and Jim were previously linked in October 2024 when the pair were seen making a rare public outing in New York.
At the time, Lorde wasn't been pictured with her music executive boyfriend Justin Warren since March 2023.
The pair began fuelling rumours they are working on a new album together after Jim-E shared a photo of Lorde to Instagram in August.
Last weekend at Glasto, he singer - who previously graced The Pyramid stage in 2022 - performed all of her biggest hits from Ribs to Green Light, as well as a rendition of her new album.
Wearing her jet black hair down, Lorde sported an all-white look for the occasion consisting of a pair of straight leg jeans and a plain T-shirt.
While belting out her lyrics, Lorde put her abs on full display as she lifted her T-shirt up to reveal her bra.
She later stripped out of the T-shirt, laying bare her impressive figure and sending thousands of supporters wild.
'Moooorning', she greeted the crowd, 'this is sick'.
And it seems her performance didn't disappoint, with a host of festival-goers taking to X to praise the popstar.
Supporters described the show as 'out of this world', 'utterly euphoric' and 'brilliant'.

Glastonbury 2025 was my first ever festival - here's what I thought

Glastonbury Festival has always been the one festival I have always wanted to go to. I've just never been able to get a ticket, nor could I justify the ticket's pricetag at just under £400; however, this year I thought I would try it. It's iconic in British culture, with performances from a wide variety of bands, including farewell appearances and mystery guests getting brought out on stage. There's clearly a reason why all the tickets sell out within minutes, but I wanted to see if it's really that special. READ MORE: Glastonbury Festival 2025: rock band plays farewell show READ MORE: Deftones 'forced' to cancel Glastonbury Festival set Whilst at the festival, I made the rookie error of underestimating just how big the Worthy Farm site is. Trying to squeeze past thousands of people to get from one stage to another was incredibly difficult, especially between the Other Stage and the Pyramid Stage. One thing I didn't rate was just how expensive Glastonbury merchandise is. One case of this was a Neil Young hoodie, which had a price tag of £80. Unbelievable. A Rod Stewart hoodie was also £75, which is ridiculous. I watched several acts at Glastonbury 2025, including all three Pyramid Stage headliners. And with every single one, I left to go somewhere else before they finished up. Neil Young had barely anyone at his Saturday set compared to The 1975 and Olivia Rodrigo, but the best headliner actually appeared on the Other Stage, with The Prodigy returning to Glastonbury for the first time since former frontman Keith Flint died in 2019. They were definitely the best, closely followed by Charli XCX. Other impressive acts I saw included Kaiser Chiefs, Busta Rhymes, Pulp, Noah Kahan, Sir Rod Stewart, and Lewis Capaldi, to name a few - with the latter sending thousands of people to tears. Special mention to the Park Stage, with Geordie Greep and Melin Melyn the standouts for me. I wish I could have seen Gary Numan perform there, as I've heard good things, but unfortunately, Pulp were heavily rumoured to play the Pyramid Stage, so I stayed there, and they were immense. So in summary, I thought the Pyramid Stage headliners were lacklustre and the Other Stage seems to be the place to go. I was worried about food at Glasto. Three meals a day for five days was going to rack up the costs, not to mention alcohol/soft drinks. In total, I spent £137, which is roughly £27.40 a day. Not bad, I was expecting at least £170. The food at Glastonbury offers a wide variety, with a personal favourite place of mine being Bayou, where I got a Surf 'n' Turf Cajun Basket for £14. To see everything I ate at the Glastonbury Festival, you can read more here: Everything I ate at Glastonbury 2025 and how much it cost. The secret sets were probably my favourite part of the whole festival. Sitting in your tent, wondering who's going to turn up and play on the day is such a fun feeling. This year on the main stages we got Lorde, Lewis Capaldi, and Pulp - as well as surprise appearances from Mick Hucknell, Ronnie Wood, and Lulu, all of whom performed with Rod Stewart on his £300k+ Pyramid Stage performance. One thing's for sure, the toilets are the worst bogs I have ever seen and can certainly put you off your dinner as you're walking past. One case of this, and it's making me feel a bit queasy just thinking about it, was when I went to the toilets near the Park Stage. Inside, someone had left a lump of their own faeces on a chain. Disgusting. The toilets are conveniently dotted around at Glastonbury, though, and I didn't know this before I arrived, but you can get a free loo roll from the info stands around the site. Ideal. Queueing for a shower is a bit of a nightmare. I tried to avoid showering between 8am-11am, as all showers had queues of 30 minutes+. I wasn't on the hunt for celebrities in particular, but I did find it interesting when I saw mini crowds gathering around certain spots. I managed to get a selfie with former Liverpool and Real Madrid footballer, Steve McManaman, which, as a Liverpool fan, I was pretty happy with. Meeting Steve McManaman was a plus to my festival experience. Very nice guy. (Image: Harry Mockridge/Newsquest) Other celebrities I spotted at Glastonbury 2025 included Idris Elba, Francis Bourgois, Aitch, and Andy Carroll, all of whom were just walking around the site like every other festival-goer, pretty cool. Glastonbury Festival can be summed up in one word. Magic. With so much going on at Worthy Farm, it's difficult to do everything and describe just how good it is there. The festival feels like one of the friendliest places in the world. I saw lots of families and people of all ages at nearly every set I watched. The people camping near me offered me drinks and let me sit with them, and a woman even offered me some sun cream as she could see I was struggling with the heat whilst Kaiser Chiefs performed on the Pyramid Stage. I would very much love to return if lucky enough to get my hands on a ticket. A special mention to Johnny, Joe, Gyles, and Frank for showing me around Worthy Farm. These weren't the only top people I met over the five days, but they were top. Sadly, there will be no Glastonbury Festival next year in 2026 due to a fallow year, allowing to let the ground to settle. However, the festival will return in June 2027, and I'm hoping I will be able to get my hands on a ticket when it comes around then. I just hope there are some better headline acts next time.

Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams and 'hard launch summer'

Rodrigo had subtly posted photos of British actor Louis Partridge in previous photo dumps, but never his face. But towards the end of a Glastonbury recap post on July 2, Rodrigo shared a clip of her dancing on Partridge's shoulders, smiling and singing along to Pulp's "Common People." The comment section exploded. "The hard launch I was waiting for I'm so happy," one fan wrote. Abrams also shared a photo of herself dancing on Irish actor Paul Mescal's shoulders over the weekend on her Instagram stories, followed by a selfie in a photo dump on her feed on July 2. "I'm so happy for two people I don't even know," one fan commented. "Both you and Olivia hard launching on the feed is really special to me," wrote another. So what is the art of the "hard launch"? The term made waves last summer when Taylor Swift finally posted Travis Kelce on her Instagram feed. Both Abrams and Rodrigo's rumored relationships have also been in the spotlight already. Early kisses caught by paparazzi, gossip circulating social media, songs seemingly written about their partners (have you listened to Rodrigo's "so american"?). But the "hard launch" is about telling the world you're together, on your terms. Therapists say celebrities have myriad reasons for pulling that proverbial trigger. But whether it's a carefully curated moment or an impulsive expression of love, you can't unring that bell. "Every aspect of the relationship can become fodder for public consumption and scrutiny, putting a spotlight on the couple and creating pressure to be seen as a healthy match," Jeff Guenther, licensed professional counselor and author of "Big Dating Energy," previously told USA TODAY. "You're also leaving yourself open to increased criticism." The 'hard launch' and controlling the narrative Dating is tricky no matter who you are, especially early on before you decide to start telling people. With celebrities, not only are they opening themselves to scrutiny from their family and friends, but often the whole world. In the beginning stages, it may also seem too good to be true, and shouting your love from the rooftops can feel like jinxing it. Last summer, when Sabrina Carpenter featured then-rumored beau, Irish actor Barry Keoghan, in the music video for "Please, Please, Please," the song begged him not to "embarrass" her. We can't speculate how Carpenter feels after that allegedly fizzled, but her newest single, "Manchild," may give listeners a clue. "When we introduce someone as our partner, there is an expectation that we've vetted this person," Kimberly Vered Shashoua, a licensed clinical social worker, previously told USA TODAY. "It can be embarrassing to have to go back to friends, family and Instagram and update them with a breakup." Think about all the couples, celebrities or otherwise, who never announce a thing. Often, it's a matter of self-preservation. All that said, it's easy to see why celebrities might want to shout about their relationships anyway. They're just like anyone else. It feels good to be in love. "When we feel confident in our partner, it can feel great to show them off," Shashoua said. "It's a lot easier to be honest with our friends and family than sneaking around. If we're active on social media, it can feel strange to have such a big part of your life hidden." Sabrina Carpenter, hookup culture and why the way we talk about sex is changing Risks, benefits of authenticity People must weigh the benefits and risks of authenticity when publicizing a private relationship. These "depend on what celebrities are getting out of it, the impact on their personal and professional lives and whether their choices are in line with their personality and core values," Cecille Ahrens, a licensed clinical social worker, previously told USA TODAY. No matter who you are, you give up pieces of yourself during a hard launch. Ahrens adds you may receive "unwanted attention" or face "constant boundary violations." Just ask Abrams, who faced criticism as rumors swirled about her and Mescal's relationship after his apparent breakup from Phoebe Bridgers. But with enough time passed, Abrams' "hard launch" has been met with support. The "hard launch" can even be a business strategy: "By being open about their relationships, celebrities can connect more deeply with their fans, boosting their parasocial relationships and most likely leading to more sales or followers," Guenther said. It's a decision that requires care and conversation. But at the end of the day, at least the decision is theirs. Contributing: David Oliver
