2 critically injured in multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga

(Jacob Estrin/CTV News Toronto) Two people are in hospital in life-threatening condition following what police area calling a 'serious,' multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga early Sunday morning. The crash happened on the westbound express lanes near Dixie Road. Police say emergency responders were called to that area just before 2 a.m. OPP officers were already performing CPR on one person when fire crews arrived. Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, of the OPP, later told CP24 that the patients were taken to a trauma centre with critical injuries and that they remain in hospital. No further update on their condition is available at this time. The collision also temporarily closed the Highway 401 express ramp from Highway 403. 'We appreciated your patience and understanding during the investigation and clean-up efforts,' The OPP said in a post on X.

Peel police were called for a collision at the intersection of Highway 50 and Coleraine Drive at 4:15 p.m. Const. Tyler Bell, Peel police's media relations officer, told CP24 that as officers were responding, York Regional Police notified them of an alleged impaired driver operating a white commercial van that exited Highway 27 onto Major Mackenzie Drive and headed west. When officers arrived, Bell said they found the white commercial van had collided with several vehicles at the intersection. Images from the scene show a Ford sedan with its roof ripped off and the white van on its side. He noted that the driver did not suffer significant injuries. 'We can't comment yet on some of the potential charges to come out of this,' he said. When asked if speed was a factor in the crash, Bell said, 'Almost undoubtedly.' 'Was it excessive speed or moderate speed? We don't quite know yet,' he added. 'Major Collision Bureau's gonna be on scene and mapping out the collision site, and part of their investigation is going to be a download of that vehicle to see exactly how fast it was travelling.' Bell said the reports received by the York Regional Police indicated that erratic driving was observed.

Multi-vehicle collision in Cumberland County sends two to hospital
Emergency crews were called to the crash site, which involved three-vehicles and a fifth-wheel trailer, just before noon on Monday. (file image). A 65-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 104 near Westchester Mountain, N.S., Monday morning. Emergency crews were called to the crash site, which involved three-vehicles and a fifth-wheel trailer, just before noon. Officers at the scene learned a Ford F250 was towing a fifth-wheel trailer when the driver pulled over to the side of the road to deal with a blown tire. At the same time, a Nissan Rogue and a Ford F150 collided while driving by the parked trailer. The F150 struck the parked trailer while the driver of the F250 was outside of the vehicle. The driver of the Ford 250 truck, a 65-year-old man from Valley, N.S., suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital via LifeFlight. The passenger of the Ford 250 truck, a 65-year-old woman from Valley, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan Rogue, a 69-year-old woman from Donkin, N.S., was transported by EHS with minor injuries. The driver of the Ford F150 truck, a 41-year-old woman, and passenger, a 59-year-old woman, both from Ontario, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the scene. Highway 104 was closed for a period of time while collision analysts and reconstructionists worked at the scene. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
