Netanyahu says his meeting with Trump can 'help advance' Gaza deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that he expected his upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump could "help advance" a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza. "We are working to achieve this deal that we have discussed, under the conditions that we have agreed to. I have sent a negotiating team (to Doha) with clear instructions," Netanyahu told reporters on the tarmac of Ben Gurion airport before boarding the presidential plane for Washington. "I think that this meeting with President Trump can definitely help advance this (deal) that we are all hoping for." AFP

Ukraine halts prisoner swap

Kiev has postponed a previously agreed prisoner swap with Moscow, according to Russian Lt. Gen. Alexander Zorin, speaking for the Defense Ministry. The trade would also include the repatriation of over 6,000 bodies of deceased Ukrainian soldiers, he added in a statement published on Saturday. 'Russia handed over to the Ukrainian side a list of 640 names, but the latter is so far refraining from setting a date for the return of these individuals,' said Zorin, who was a member of Moscow's negotiating team in Istanbul. He explained that the exchange agreement covers two groups of prisoners – an 'all-for-all' swap of wounded and critically ill, and those under 25 years old. DETAILS TO FOLLOW

Politics latest: Trump and Starmer tell Sky News UK-US trade deal is just the start

'This is a historic day,' Starmer tells Trump Sir Keir Starmer replies to Donald Trump by saying this is "a really fantastic, historic day", and "a real tribute to, the history that we have of working so closely together". He pays tribute to the US president's negotiating team, saying they did "an incredible job, a very professional job". "This is going to boost trade, between, and across our countries," the PM says. "It's going to not only protect jobs, but create jobs, opening market access." The timing of this deal "couldn't be more apt", Starmer continues, in reference to Victory in Europe Day 80 years ago today. "To be able to announce this great deal on the same day, 80 years forward, almost at the same hour - and as we were 80 years ago with the UK, the US standing side by side - I think is incredibly important and makes this truly historic." 'An incredible platform for the future' Turning to Trump's comments about "fairness" in trade, the PM repeats what he has previously said, which is that "we've always had a fair, balanced arrangement between our countries". "This builds on that. Hugely important for sectors like car manufacturing, and for steel and aluminium and so many others. "And yes, we can finish ironing out some of the details, but there's a fantastic platform here, including, of course, on the tech side." The PM concludes by saying: "I'm so pleased that we got this deal, we've finalised it. And we've built an incredible platform for the future."
