No. 1 OT Leaning Towards SEC Powerhouse

No. 1 OT Leaning Towards SEC Powerhouse originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns have just one commitment from the 2027 class, but are looking to make it two. On3's Sam Spiegelman reported Wednesday that Texas and the Oregon Ducks were the two frontrunners for five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown. Brown is the top offensive tackle and recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings for the class. Brown has also visited with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs this summer. He also holds offers from the USC Trojans, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and others. The Longhorns' lone commit from the class thus far is four-star edge rusher Taven Epps, out of Tustin, California. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine backed up Spiegelman's claims, as Texas is in the lead with a 24% chance to land Brown. The Longhorns are followed by the Texas A&M Aggies (11%), Alabama (9.4%), and Nebraska (7.8%). One of Texas' current commits from a different class was in the spotlight recently. Five-star quarterback Dia Bell has been committed to Texas since June of 2024. Bell was ranked as the No. 5 recruit by ESPN's Billy Tucker regardless of class. The prospect is the top quarterback in the 2026 class in the On3 Industry Rankings. Texas added a commitment from the same class lately, as four-star cornerback Samari Matthews pledged to the Longhorns. Texas finished its first season in the SEC with a trip to the semifinal round of the College Football Playoff, losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes 28-14. Texas opens the 2025 season against the same team on August 30. Kickoff is at Noon ET on story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 17, 2025, where it first appeared.

Packers agree with right tackle Zach Tom on a 4-year, $88M extension, AP source says

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to terms with starting right tackle Zach Tom on a four-year extension worth $88 million, according to a person familiar with the contract. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal had not been announced. The extension is worth up to a maximum value of $92 million and includes a $30.2 million signing bonus, the person said. Tom, 26, started all 17 regular-season games for Green Bay each of the past two years after playing every offensive line position but center as a rookie. He has appeared in 46 NFL games, counting the playoffs, for the Packers since they took him in the fourth round out Wake Forest in the 2022 draft. According to Pro Football Focus, Tom graded as the sixth-best offensive tackle in the league last season and was third in run blocking. Tom is now under contract through 2029. Green Bay's only player signed longer is quarterback Jordan Love, who got a $220 million extension last year. ___ AP NFL:

Packers agree to 4-year, $88 million extension with OT Zach Tom: Source

The Green Bay Packers and offensive tackle Zach Tom have agreed to terms on a four-year, $88 million contract extension, a source with knowledge of the deal confirmed to The Athletic. The deal includes a $30.2 million signing bonus, the largest ever given to an NFL offensive lineman. Tom isn't exactly a household name across the NFL, but now the 26-year-old will be paid like one. The 2022 fourth-round pick received the third-most All-Pro votes among right tackles last season behind only Detroit's Penei Sewell and Philadelphia's Lane Johnson. Now, Tom's new $22 million average annual salary is third-highest at his position behind those two, according to Over The Cap. Pro Football Focus rated Tom as the sixth-best overall offensive tackle in the league last season. Tom participated in the entirety of the Packers' voluntary offseason program even without a new deal, but this deal ensures he'll also be on the field when the Packers hold their first public practice of training camp on Wednesday. Advertisement 'I think he can play any position,' Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said this offseason of Tom. 'So it just happened to be that he kind of found his home at right tackle, but I think his versatility is one of the things that makes him special. I think he can play all five and there's not a lot of guys that can do that. But I would say that he's got the athleticism. I think he's a very intelligent football player and he's played pretty consistent over the course of the last few years.' The Packers will have a new left guard and new center this season, while there remains uncertainty surrounding who will start at left tackle and right guard. The only constant up front is Tom protecting Love's strong side, which he's done admirably the last several years. This story will be updated. (Photo of Zach Tom: Matt Schneidman / The Athletic)

Kansas City Chiefs' Josh Simmons draws NFL comparison to future Hall of Famer

The Kansas City Chiefs landed offensive tackle Josh Simmons with the 32nd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, grabbing a borderline top-15 talent because of a leg injury. As the rookie works towards becoming the team's left tackle in Week 1, he's earned an NFL comparison to a future Hall of Famer. On a recent episode of the New Heights podcast, the former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce said that Simmons reminded him a lot of future Hall of Fame offensive tackle Trent Williams. 'I've watched a lot of these linemen coming out the last few years. This kid, I mean, he is the closest thing I've seen to like a Trent Williams — like that next level strength and athleticism. The only reason he fell to you guys is because of that injury.' Jason Kelce on Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Josh Simmons Related: Williams, who currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers, is an 11-time Pro Bowl selection and has earned four All-Pro selections in his career. The 6-foot-5 lineman is widely recognized as one of the best left tackles of his era and has a strong shot of eventually being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As Kelce noted, this comparison between the two doesn't come lightly, and it's not his first time evaluating offensive linemen entering the NFL. When he looks at Simmons' physical abilities, though, he views him as the closest player to resemble Williams. Related: Some viewed Simmons as a likely top-15 pick before he suffered a torn patellar tendon in October. While there was originally uncertainty regarding when he'd be able to see the field, the 22-year-old is already practicing with the team ahead of training camp in July. If Williams wins the left tackle spot, it would potentially allow Kansas City to shift free-agent signing Jaylon Moore to right tackle to replace Jawaan Taylor. Not only would that give the Chiefs a better offensive line next season, but they would also have more tackle depth than they've had in previous years.
