No. 1 OT Leaning Towards SEC Powerhouse
The Texas Longhorns have just one commitment from the 2027 class, but are looking to make it two.
On3's Sam Spiegelman reported Wednesday that Texas and the Oregon Ducks were the two frontrunners for five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown. Brown is the top offensive tackle and recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings for the class.
Brown has also visited with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs this summer.
He also holds offers from the USC Trojans, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and others.
The Longhorns' lone commit from the class thus far is four-star edge rusher Taven Epps, out of Tustin, California.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine backed up Spiegelman's claims, as Texas is in the lead with a 24% chance to land Brown. The Longhorns are followed by the Texas A&M Aggies (11%), Alabama (9.4%), and Nebraska (7.8%).
One of Texas' current commits from a different class was in the spotlight recently. Five-star quarterback Dia Bell has been committed to Texas since June of 2024. Bell was ranked as the No. 5 recruit by ESPN's Billy Tucker regardless of class.
The prospect is the top quarterback in the 2026 class in the On3 Industry Rankings.
Texas added a commitment from the same class lately, as four-star cornerback Samari Matthews pledged to the Longhorns.
Texas finished its first season in the SEC with a trip to the semifinal round of the College Football Playoff, losing to the Ohio State Buckeyes 28-14.

Team USA sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday after reportedly getting into a fight with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to a police report obtained by multiple media outlets. Per the report, Coleman refused to press charges and "declined to be a victim," via The Athletic. USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA Today that the organization was aware of the reports, but did not provide any additional comment. Richardson competed in the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene, Oregon, running in the first round of the women's 100-meter race on Thursday. With a time of 11.07 seconds, Richardson qualified in 11th place, but she has since withdrawn from the competition. She also pulled out of the 200-meter race, where she was scheduled to run this weekend. Because she's the reigning world champion in the 100, she automatically qualifies for September's World Championships in Tokyo in the event.

Young in the lead when Wyndham Championship halted by storms
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young made two straight birdies to move ahead of defending champion Aaron Rai and then stuffed his tee shot on the par-3 16th into six feet when storm clouds gathered and halted play Friday in the Wyndham Championship. The second round was to resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, and the third round would be played in threesomes starting on both nines at Sedgefield Country Club. Young is considered among the best players to have not won on a major tour, twice contending into the final hour of major championships. He has seven runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, including the British Open at St. Andrews. Young was at 14-under par. Rai, who won his first PGA Tour title a year ago at the Wyndham Championship, was at 13 under and had just missed the green to the left on No. 14. Mac Meissner had a 7-under 63 and Sungjae Im shot 64 to post at 12-under 128 from the morning round. Mark Hubbard shot a 66 and was another shot behind. Hubbard needs at least a three-way tie for second to advance to the post-season. The Wyndham Championship is the final tournament in the regular season, with the top 70 advancing to the lucrative post-season. The 36-hole cut was shaping up to be 4 under — possibly 3 under if scores got worse when the round resumed Saturday — and that meant some seasons were over for players like Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., and Zach Johnson. Ben Silverman of Thornhill, Ont., is tied for 82nd at 2 under, while Adam Svensson of Surrey, B.C. is tied for 93rd at 1 under. Max Homa was at 1 under with five holes to play and in dire need of birdies and then a big weekend to avoid missing the playoffs. 2025 PFL 8 video: Frederik Dupras puts Nathan Kelly to sleep as referee misses tap
Frederik Dupras, take a bow. At 2025 PFL World Tournament 8, the French-Canadian bounced back into the win column when he defeated Nathan Kelly by technical submission via guillotine choke. The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga.
