Det. Sgt. Frank Gualdino was honored Monday by the City of Yonkers. Gualdino was killed in the line of duty in December, 2022 by an unlicensed teen at the wheel of a speeding sportscar. Now Yonkers is keeping its promise to never forget his service by renaming the street where he lived for so many years - Rose Hill Terrace was renamed in honor of Gualdino - it is now Detective Sgt. Frank Gualdino Way. "I could never have imagined this honor for Frank, and I'm sure he couldn't either, but I know he would love it, and that makes me happy," his widow Lisa Gualdino said. Det. Sgt. Frank Gualdino died when an unlicensed teen crashed a sports car into his police cruiser in Yonkers, New York on Dec. 1, 2022. Gualdino Family "It makes such a difference" He was planning his retirement when he was killed in the line of duty. Just as his family was looking forward to having more time with him, he was taken away. Yonkers PD has lived up to their promise to honor Gualdino's 24 years of service and to be there for his family, Lisa Gualdino said. "The level of support, they're here for us no matter what we need, anytime, for anything. And to know that - it makes such a difference in my life and my children's life. I'm just so grateful for it," she said. "It's where he played with his friends, spent time with his family, and dreamed the dreams that would one day lead him to serve this very community with courage and heart," Yonkers Police Commissioner Chistopher Sapienza said. Of the many tributes to Gualdino, his family says renaming the street where he lived for so many years is truly special. "I just felt his love for not only his family, but the street and community," daughter Emily Gualdino said. His name is now enshrined on Rose Hill Terrace, and his memory in the hearts of a grateful community.

Hoosock, Jensen families, friends and fellow officers attend vigil for fallen heroes on National Mall in Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSYR-TV) — The names of five fallen officers from Central New York were read aloud before a crowd of thousands Tuesday night at the Annual Candlelight Vigil on the National Mall outside the U.S. Capitol Building. Despite the persistent rain, each officer was well-represented with family members or fellow officers. For the reading of Officer Michael Jensen's name, his mom and dad traveled to Washington, DC from Oneida County. Jensen's police family, including Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile, were part of the detail that made the trip. Lt. Michael Hoosock's widow, Cait, and their three children were in attendance for the reading of his name. Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley and Hoosock's fellow deputies were also there. A detail from Oswego County, including Sheriff Don Hilton, attended the vigil for Deputy Cailee Campbell who was killed in a crash last year. Kathy Owen, the widow of Oneida Indian Nation Police Sgt. Ronald Owen, attended the vigil with her family. They were seated in front of a detail from the Nation, led by Chief David Verne. The annual reading of the roll call included 345 names newly recognized this year, either because of a death in the line of duty last year or a special circumstance that finally allowed past deaths to be recognized this year. Lt. David McShane, of the State's Department of Environmental Conservation, who died from a 9/11-related illness last year was also included in the roll call. His fellow officers attended in his memory. In addition to the reading, the names of each officer were newly added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall.
