After Garrett Wilson's megadeal, pressure mounts on Falcons to figure out their next move

The NFL offseason just got a lot more complicated for the Atlanta Falcons. With Jets star receiver Garrett Wilson signing a massive new deal — one that not only cements his status among the NFL's elite but also resets the wide receiver market — the ripple effects are already being felt. All eyes are now firmly on Atlanta's front office, as fans, analysts, and rival executives wait to see how the Falcons will respond. For weeks, questions have hovered over Atlanta's plans for building around their young offensive core. The team has talent — that much isn't in doubt. But questions persist about whether they have enough firepower at the wide receiver position to make a serious run in an increasingly competitive NFC South. With Wilson's blockbuster contract now on the books, the going rate for elite pass catchers has officially skyrocketed. That leaves the Falcons facing a difficult crossroads. Do they chase a big-name target and risk overpaying? Or do they stay the course, trust their development system, and hope emerging talents can bridge the gap? What complicates matters is timing. The clock is ticking toward training camp, and the NFC South feels more up for grabs than it has in years. Tampa Bay is adjusting to life post-Brady, New Orleans remains a question mark, and Carolina is still rebuilding. Atlanta senses an opportunity to climb, but how they choose to address their roster over the next few weeks could make all the difference. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like הברכה הנדירה של הרב ראובן אלבז שליטא לתורמי מאירים לחיים מאירים לחיים תרמו עכשיו Undo Wilson's deal isn't just news in New York; it's a market shift across the league. Agents will point to it. Players will demand to be measured against it. And teams like Atlanta, who find themselves on the brink of either progress or stagnation, must now reconsider their approach. Overpaying for talent has risks, but so does standing pat while the market evolves without you. In the end, Atlanta's next move will speak volumes about how confident they are in their current roster and how serious they are about winning now, not later. With every passing day, the pressure only grows. Live Events

Patrick Mahomes dynasty in doubt? Analyst compares Chiefs to Tom Brady's drought

Patrick Mahomes dynasty in doubt? Analyst compares Chiefs to Tom Brady's drought (Image Via IMGN) After a heartbreaking Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, analysts are now asking the question everyone thought was impossible. Is Patrick Mahomes' golden era nearing its end? The debate was fueled by bold comparisons to Tom Brady's Patriots' decade-long championship drought. And this fiery debate is heating up stadium conversations. For what feels like an eternity, predicting the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl has been the safest bet in the NFL. Patrick Mahomes vs. Tom Brady in the race of draught Earlier this week on FS1's The Facility, commentator Emmanuel Acho dropped a bombshell. He directly compared the Chiefs' Super Bowl absence to the Patriots' famous drought, post-Brady. He said, 'Has the Super Bowl drought for the Kansas City Chiefs started? Here's why I suggest that. We all forget, in the midst of praising Tom Brady, which we absolutely should, the Patriots didn't win a Super Bowl for 10 years. From 2004 to 2014, they did not win a won three, 10-year break, three. Patrick Mahomes has already won his three. Are we in the midst of his 10-year hiatus?' Acho pointed out that the Eagles and Ravens currently boast stronger rosters, with even the Bills closing the gap and the Chargers on the rise under Jim Harbaugh. As he said, 'Why I'm suggesting that is the Eagles, from a roster perspective, are way, way, way, way, way better than the Kansas City Chiefs.' If that wasn't spicy enough, he went on to say, 'The Baltimore Ravens, from a roster perspective, are way, way, way better than the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills, from a roster perspective, are not way better than the Kansas City Chiefs, but they are starting to close the gap. The Chargers are up and coming. ' Looking at the history of the Chiefs To unpack Acho's bold take, we need to rewind to the Patriots. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? IC Markets Đăng ký Undo After winning three Super Bowls between 2001 and 2004, they didn't hoist the Lombardi again until the 2014 season. It was a decade-long drought. Crucially, patriots still reached big games amid that stretch, frequently contending but falling short of the ultimate prize. While the chatter is growing louder, the Chiefs remain firmly within the elite conversation. They won 15 games in the 2024 regular season, captured the AFC Championship, and advanced to Super Bowl LIX. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes? Still classified in a tier of one by analysts. Plus, Chiefs founder-dynasty leader Andy Reid is signed through 2029, and Mahomes keeps proving why he's among the all-time greats. Kansas City fans are divided. On one side, loyal Mahomes enthusiasts argue the dynasty remains intact as long as he's leading. They highlight that Mahomes already leads Tom Brady in wins over their first eight seasons and was dominant even amid a Super Bowl loss. On the other hand, cautious voices point to growing competition, concerns about roster turnover, and the aging arc of perpetual dominance. This split mirrors the long debates that come with any legendary player or era nearing a crossroads. Some argue this may be more of a reset than a collapse. We'll try to temper our optimism for the 2025 Patriots, but with the changes they've made, it's not going to be easy

Now, Jones did prove many things beyond a doubt. That he went at least two rounds too early in the 2021 draft . . . that a quarterback cannot succeed throwing only changeups . . . that Bill Belichick can hold a ferocious grudge against his own mistakes. What the current 49ers backup, now on Team No. 3, did not prove is that he was the answer to any other question beyond, 'Which noodle-armed QB is definitely not the Patriots' quarterback of the future?' (Bailey Zappe is also an acceptable answer. What was Belichick thinking with that post-Brady QB situation?) Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up That was a Hall-of-Fame-level Freezing Cold Take by me. I should have known better regarding Jones, whose physical skills were subpar and his football acuity exaggerated by the Alabama hype machine even after the promising first half of his rookie season. Advertisement The Mac whiff was perhaps the harshest reminder that the high hopes of summer and minicamps and no-pads quasi-football are often proven false by the blunt force of September and beyond. So, Advertisement But because we're still all friends here, we can acknowledge another truth: Staying coolly rational about this team is not easy, because just about everything — from the vibes to the talent level to the coaching staff to the overall professionalism — is clearly light-years better. A skeptic — or a realist — might note that it would be hard to be worse. Jerod Mayo is a Football Guy through and through, but he would have been over his head as a head coach even if he had not been saddled with a staff made up of misfit toys and the worst roster in the league. In retrospect, it was somewhere between damning and nuts that the Krafts thought he was ready to run an NFL operation, let alone succeed Belichick. It's a wonder his Patriots won four games. The hiring of The vast upgrade in coaching competence makes it challenging to heed those pleas for caution. And it's darned near impossible to modulate enthusiasm for the revamped roster and the serious upgrades in talent at multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Big-bucks free agent signing Milton Williams and Advertisement There are tough-to-resist hopes for some holdovers, too, such as versatile Marte Mapu and veteran Kyle Dugger, who should be put in more positions to play to his strengths. The offense should be vastly improved, and not only because it couldn't get much worse. Drake Maye, who has all the measurables and charisma that Jones lacked, should make a leap in Year 2 as McDaniels tailors the system to the quarterback's vast skills. Now that he's back loved this pick even though the position wasn't a high-priority need) and receiver Kyle Williams, who by all accounts looked fast and like a fast learner. We'll find out if No. 4 overall pick Will Campbell is a left tackle or a guard in disguise once the real games begin. But the Hey, It Couldn't Get Worse theme particularly applies to the offensive line. What's that? Fine, you got me, it's true. I'm really struggling not to be relentlessly optimistic here. The facts say the Patriots have the third-easiest strength of schedule, and a quick September start (they open at home versus the Tom Brady Raiders, visit Miami, then host the Steelers and Panthers) is not out of the realm of possibility. An optimist might even say it's likely. Advertisement So, what's a reasonable outcome for the 2025 Patriots? How does a .500-ish record — 8-9 or 9-8 — and playing meaningful games until the end of December sound? Go ahead, call it optimistic if you wish. I'm going to call it realistic, if not likely. Come January, this take will prove the opposite of freezing. Chad Finn can be reached at

Did Patriots tease major uniform change for 2025 season?

Did Patriots tease major uniform change for 2025 season? Are the New England Patriots teasing a uniform change for the 2025 season? Fans are asking the question following footage of players wearing grey game pants instead of the navy bottoms for their pictures at Wednesday's media day. The Patriots wore the grey pants throughout the Tom Brady era. That look has become synonymous with the previous success of the franchise that won six Super Bowls in Brady's near 20-year run. You can trace the origin of the look as far back as 1993, when the Flying Elvis era began. The Patriots moved to the navy bottoms to kick-start the post-Brady era in 2020. However, one has to wonder if they are considering a more permanent comeback for the grey pants. A change in uniform isn't going to magically make the Patriots a better football team, but there's hope they can draw on history and tradition to aid in their confidence in 2025. Perhaps that would be enough to help them get back to their winning ways. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

UNC adds pair of linemen through transfer portal on April 24

UNC adds pair of linemen through transfer portal on April 24 UNC adds a pair of linemen on April 24. Four months ahead of the 2025 college football season, one thing is crystal-clear: guys want to play for Bill Belichick. UNC's new head football coach's past speaks for itself: eight Super Bowl Titles, 17 AFC East Championships and developing Tom Brady into the greatest football player of our generation. Belichick struggled post-Brady though and, after a 4-13 season in 2023, he agreed to part ways with the New England Patriots. Nine players have already committed to North Carolina through the transfer portal, highlighted by expected 2025 starting quarterback Gio Lopez. The Tar Heels need to replace loads of production on both their offensive and defensive lines, but their latest portal additions should help with that. On Tuesday, April 24, UNC landed commitments from Penn State defensive lineman Joseph Mupoyi and UAB offensive lineman Jordan Hall. Mupoyi redshirted his 2023 season, then played in just two games last year. Mupoyi recorded a tackle in the College Football Playoff. Hall will enter his redshirt sophomore season in Year One at North Carolina. Hall played in all 12 of UAB's games last year, starting once at left tackle. Mupoyi is the second Penn State lineman to land in Chapel Hill, following Vilbert Smith, who is expected to be a 2025 starter for the Tar Heels. UNC has more experience returning on its offensive line, but with Hall's 6'8", 310-pound frame, it's difficult to imagine Hall not being a Day One starter. Regardless of whether North Carolina adds anyone else in the transfer portal, it's encouraging to see guys want to play for Belichick in Year One at the college level.
