Has Iveco Just Built The Sexiest Show Truck?

Dubbed the 'Force of Nature', Iveco's new show truck has a strong green and black theme For most people the idea of a sexy truck is an oxymoron. They're designed for hauling goods across countries and continents to supply virtually everything imaginable. Unless you're a diehard truck enthusiast, it might be difficult to see the appeal, but stick with me. The brief for this build was simple: make a poster truck. For all the kids (and adults) who adorn their walls with dream cars, Iveco wanted this custom S-Way to stand up as an aspirational symbol. Unveiled at the biggest event of the year for UK truck operators, the Road Transport Expo, crowds gathered to watch the curtain be lifted on the new show truck. While it might look like a standard truck – with a frankly incredible hand-painted black and green livery – underneath is a powertrain that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG). As part of its strategy to help fleets decarbonise, Iveco offers a range of CNG-powered trucks which can reduce emissions by up to 95% compared to diesel. Traditionally, a show truck of this caliber would be fitted with an absurd array of chrome lightbars, air horns and blingy accessories but that would be counterintuitive to the vehicle's mission. Since Iveco is highlighting its low emission capability, the truck needs to maintain its aerodynamic profile. It's equipped with mirror cam systems to reduce drag compared to standard mirrors. Every detail green detail is a nod to the truck's low emission powertrain Perhaps the star of the show truck is Iveco's xCursor 13 engine which produces 500 hp and 2200Nm of torque. This is Iveco's most powerful CNG engine and its gas storage tanks give the vehicle enough fuel to travel 500km before needing to top up. Eight CNG tanks are fitted in the chassis so no alterations are needed to the trailer or truck to meet regulatory length requirements. Inside, the truck has a completely custom trim and takes inspiration from the motorsport world with bright green stitching, a green center line marking at the top of the steering wheel and green seatbelts. Both black leather seats have beautiful green embroidery and everywhere you look there's touches of Alcantara. Even the bedding in the sleeper cab has custom embroidery spelling our '500 CNG'. Mike Cutts, business line director, full range UK and Ireland said: 'The reduction in emissions across fleets is a serious business, and so this statement-making vehicle represents much more than a bespoke show truck. Underpinning this vehicle is the same unmatched Iveco S-Way CNG 6x2 that is revolutionising renewable fleet capabilities. It's a product we are proud of, and clearly one that is worthy of an attention-grabbing persona.' As of now, the show truck is a one off bespoke build Iveco's 6x2 S-Way is built for the UK market in collaboration with Astra Vehicle Technologies. The trucks are imported in a 4x2 chassis configuration before Astra adds an extra axle to allow the tractor unit to operate at up to 44-tonnes. Compared to European markets, the UK favours a 6x2 chassis to allow greater flexibility for loads running at maximum weight. The CNG S-Way features a mid-lift axle that can be lifted to reduce fuel consumption when the truck is running empty or lighter than full load. Iveco has announced its intentions for this truck to be a one-of-one example. Over the next year or so, it's expected to pop up all over the UK showcasing its capabilities and high specification. We've seen several manufacturers tempt the market with 'one offs' before, so if the company drums up enough demand, we might just see a limited edition run of these black and green CNG S-Ways.
