Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga wakes up to promising contract news
The long, drawn-out Jonathan Kuminga saga picked up some good news Thursday morning. There might be another suitor for the talented yet somehow on-the-fringes Warriors forward. The Phoenix Suns have expressed an interest in a sign-and-trade for Kuminga, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. 'Sources say Phoenix, meanwhile, is the latest team to express exploratory interest in a Kuminga sign-and-trade... challenging as it would be for the Suns to make such a deal happen," Fischer writes. "Fresh off completing a buyout of Bradley Beal this week, enabling the Suns to waive-and-stretch the hefty contract possessed by the three-time NBA All-Star guard, they have contacted both Kuminga's representation and the Warriors to make their fondness for the bouncy swingman known.' MORE: LeBron James trade, buyout rumors take 180-degree turn It'd be interesting to see how such a deal might look. The Suns got off of Beal in part to get under all the apron and luxury tax lines. Surely, Kuminga would push them back over at least one line, unless they could pull off a really crafty deal. It's worth a shot for Phoenix, though, which needs to start a new era with Devin Booker at the heart and up-and-coming talent around him. Kuminga could still turn into one of the best scoring wings in the NBA. It's just not clear the Warriors will allow him to spread those wings. Maybe the Suns will. Mandatory Credit: David Reginek-Imagn Images The post Kings officially complete Dennis Schroder sign-and-trade with Pistons appeared first on ClutchPoints. As guard Dennis Schroder signed with the Sacramento Kings on a $45 million deal, the terms of the situation became more clear in how the Detroit Pistons were involved. ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel would report that the Kings signing Schroder would come with a sign-and-trade including the Pistons, which has now been made official. Advertisement The news would be confirmed by Siegel on Monday and, the deal was 'changed four different times,' but it will ultimately be a sign-and-trade. 'Are you all finally ready for the confirmation? Dennis Schroder is heading to the Kings by way of a sign-and-trade, multiple league sources have confirmed to ClutchPoints,' Siegel wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 'This changed four different times, but it has finally been decided that this deal will be a S&T.' Schroder was with three teams last season, starting with the Brooklyn Nets, then being dealt to the Golden State Warriors in December before being traded to the Detroit Pistons before the deadline. The financial aftermath of the Kings getting Dennis Schroder Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images With the Kings involved in rumors for Jonathan Kuminga and other players, the addition of Schroder is an interesting one, as the team gets a veteran point guard who could fill a role easily. Siegel would give insight into the financial ramifications of the deal, saying that to take on the contract of the 31-year-old, the team will be utilizing Kevin Hueter's $16.8 million exception. Advertisement 'The Kings are using their Huerter $16.8M exception to take on Schroder's contract,' Siegel wrote on the social media platform X. 'Detroit creates about a $14.8M TPE that can be utilized over the next year at the cost of a second-round pick. Kings will keep their MLE intact.' Last season through three teams, Schroder would average 13.1 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game while shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc. Sacramento looks to improve after finishing with a 40-42, which put them ninth in the Western Conference. NBA rumors: 76ers ‘splash cold water' on Quentin Grimes sign-and-trade
The post NBA rumors: 76ers 'splash cold water' on Quentin Grimes sign-and-trade appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the situation around the Philadelphia 76ers and Quentin Grimes, there has been some recent reporting on the likelihood of a possible sign-and-trade. While the rumors around the 76ers standout in Grimes will continue, it seems that the question of a potential sign-and-trade has been answered. Advertisement In the latest column by Tony Jones of The Athletic, he speaks about Grimes and where things stand with Philadelphia with the expectation from the team that they will retain the guard. Even going far as to say that the team 'splashed cold water on potential sign-and-trade scenarios.' 'The proverbial elephant in the room is the restricted free agency of shooting guard Quentin Grimes, which at this point has yielded almost no movement,' Jones wrote. 'To be clear, the Sixers as of Monday night, are almost certain they are going to retain him, and splashed cold water on potential sign-and-trade scenarios, league sources told The Athletic. The issue for Grimes is that the restricted free agency market is virtually non-existent. There is almost no cap space on the market, and that puts the Sixers in a position where they are bidding against themselves.' Grimes emerged last season as a crucial piece to Philadelphia and stepped up as a scoring option with the immense amount of injuries to such stars as Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey. He has positional versatility, being able to play both guard and forward as last season after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the 76ers, he averaged 21.9 points in 28 games. The current expectation is that Quentin Grimes stays with the 76ers Kyle Ross-Imagn Images With $25 million reportedly being the ask of Grimes to the 76ers, it seems that there will be further negotiations on the number with the expectation that he will be back to the team. Jones would further state that his sources continue to say that both parties will 'find a way to come to terms,' though each side has a different goal. Advertisement 'League sources are confident that the Sixers and Grimes will find a way to come to terms, even if Sixers fans have grown a bit antsy waiting for a resolution, and even if the market has ground to a halt,' Jones wrote. 'At this point however, Grimes and his team are looking for a significant payout, and the Sixers are content to sit back and allow the market to play itself out. Other restricted free agents such as Golden State's Johnathan Kuminga and Chicago guard Josh Giddey are also waiting.' Jones would also go through some of the resolutions of the matter with two being that they come to an agreement and the other being a sign-and-trade. The third is that Grimes could agree to a '$8.7 million qualifying offer,' which would lead to him being an unrestricted free agent next season. Jack Eichel bashes Sabres after Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner joins Golden Knights
Jack Eichel could relate. That's how the Vegas Golden Knights' incumbent star felt when he saw Mitch Marner leave the Toronto Maple Leafs in a sign-and-trade to become his teammate. Eichel related the situation to when he left the Buffalo Sabres for Vegas. Advertisement "I can relate, to a point, to some of the things he's going through," Eichel told The Hockey News. Eichel's situation in Buffalo wasn't exactly the same, of course. The Sabres weren't a playoff team, while the Maple Leafs of Marner were a Stanley Cup contender for the first time in a while. Eichel was pursuing a winning situation. Marner appeared to be in search of something else. MORE: Alex Ovechkin shares update on his future Regardless of the logic, though, the reality is this: Two of the NHL's best forwards are now teammates. Eichel, a center, and Marner, a star two-way winger, hope to combine to lead the Golden Knights back to the Cup. Advertisement Meanwhile, the Sabres still haven't made the playoffs since Eichel left (and since before him, too). MORE NHL NEWS:

Is a record-breaking transaction on the way?
To add more detail to Kelly Iko's report below about an "expansive sign-and-trade" involving Houston: League sources tell The Athletic that the Rockets and Suns are working on expanding the Kevin Durant trade into a deal that would involve a league-record seven teams. Other teams involved in negotiations at the moment include the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources say. No trade is imminent, and details are being ironed out as of Wednesday night. In a would-be seven-team trade, there is an unprecedented amount of detail. Unfortunately, while a seven-team trade would make for a thrilling topic at a cocktail party, there haven't been many unexpected developments in these negotiations. At least in the iterations of the deal discussed so far, most of the recognizable names are from trades that have already been agreed to and reported but not yet finalized. The Hawks would be sending Clint Capela to the Rockets in what would become a sign-and-trade, league sources say. Durant would go to Houston. The previously reported return for him, including Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green, would go to Phoenix. Only five players who were in the NBA last season are being discussed in the current iteration of the trade, as of now: Durant, Brooks, Green, Clint Capela and Daeqwon Plowden, league sources say. The rest of the players being discussed are all from already-agreed-upon draft-night trades that are yet to be finalized and can't be until July 6. For now, the largest trade in NBA history is the six-teamer that sent Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks last summer. Before that, it was the five-teamer in 2021, when the Lakers sent Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards.
