Cardi B's Upcoming Album ‘Am I The Drama?' May Already Be Eligible For Platinum Certification — But Why?
There have been several narratives about why Cardi B took more than seven years to release her sophomore album. One certainty is that sales won't be an issue when it comes to Am I The Drama? as the LP is already eligible for an RIAA Platinum certification. Chart Data, a popular music page on X, revealed that the album has sold over 1.5 million total album units before its official release on Sept. 19. How? Well, that is because her 2020 hit 'WAP' with Megan Thee Stallion and 2021 hit 'Up' are both part of the 23-song album. Both records debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100; 'WAP' was certified 8x Platinum as of September 2023, and 'Up' was certified 2x platinum as of July 2021. The cumulative success of these tracks gets added to the overall album thanks to the adjusted rules in the streaming era, thus she can already call Am I The Drama? a commercial win even if it does not land well upon its official release. Cardi B is no stranger to commercial or critical success. Her debut album Invasion Of Privacy won Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammys and is on the road to a Diamond certification, as every song on the tracklist is certified Platinum at minimum. 'I Like It' featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin, and 'Bodak Yellow are both certified Diamond. Her 2021 hit 'Up' helped her become the female rapper with the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 as well, with five total. Cardi could potentially land another No. 1 in her latest single 'Outside,' a fierce reclamation of her independence and desire to engage with athlete crushes after her divorce from Offset. The road to September ought to be an interesting one. Check out 'Outside' below. Cardi B Announces Long-Awaited Sophomore Album ‘Am I the Drama?': See the Striking Cover Art
Cardi B season is here. The Bronx bombshell finally announced plans for her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, which will arrive on Sept. 19. Seven years in the making, Cardi made the announcement official on Monday (June 23) with the LP's gloomy cover art. 'AM I THE DRAMA? My new album is out September 19th! Preorder LINK IN BIO,' she wrote. 'Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, light and loss,' Cardi said in the clip. 'Seven years I gave them grace, but now I give them hell. I learned power's not giving, it's taking. I'm shedding feathers and no more tears. I'm not back, I'm beyond. I'm not your villain, I'm your karma. The time is here. The time is now.' Cardi put the rap world on notice with her ineffable Invasion of Privacy album in 2018, which netted her two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s (she now has a total of five) and went on to win best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Every track from her debut is at least certified platinum by the RIAA. The album comes on the heels of Cardi dropping her thumping 'Outside' single on Friday (June 19), setting the stage for the LP, which also includes smash hits 'Up' and 'WAP' on the 23-track LP. It's been a long road for Cardi B and the Bardi Gang to her sophomore effort. Back in May, she chalked up waiting on verses from guests for the delay. 'I really need these f–king features,' she said in a repost of the Spaces. 'And it's like I'm not really trying to press or go crazy on these artists because I love them down. But it's like come on now! I need that! I need that right now! Helloooo! Y'all don't want to miss this opportunity. I'll sing this s–t myself! But I really need y'all and I need y'all to hurry up and I love y'all. I feel like nobody want to miss being on this album.' After filing for divorce from Offset last August, Cardi B is entering a new chapter of her life as she's currently in a relationship with NFL star Stefon Diggs. With a release date set for Sept. 19, the countdown to Am I the Drama? is on. Cardi B Is Back ‘Outside' With A New Single
Cardi B In the wake of her split from estranged husband Offset, hit-making rapper Cardi B is ready to show she's 'Outside' for the summer. The Bronx-bred MC is back with her first solo single of 2025 and is setting the stage for her long-awaited sophomore album. 'Outside" is believed to be a direct shot at Offset as Cardi prepares to return to music in full force. She announced earlier this month that she turned in her second album to Atlantic Records, more than seven years after the release of her Grammy-winning debut Invasion of Privacy. 'I'm finally feeling ready,' she said during a recent Instagram Live. 'Y'all waited long enough. It's 'go' time.' 'When I tell you these n***as ain't sh**t, please believe me / They gon' f**k on anything, these n***as way too easy / Good-for-nothing, low-down dirty dogs, I'm convinced / Next time you see your mama, tell her how she raised a b***h,' she raps on the track. Though a large chunk of time has passed since her last LP, Cardi's dominance in hip-hop hasn't faded. She notched back-to-back number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with 'WAP' in 2020 and 'Up' in 2021 and other top-10 hits with last year's 'Enough (Miami)' and her 2022 GloRilla collab 'Tomorrow 2.' Cardi teased the forthcoming album in a Billboard interview in April and promised something unlike anything currently in the zeitgeist. "I almost want to say the name because that's what it'll be about," she said. "I feel like my album is messy. She's a messy queen." "I feel like it's unexpected and I feel like it's something that's not really out right now," she continued. "It's gonna be things that people do expect me and a lot of things people don't expect from me." The rollercoaster of her life over the past year – from filing for divorce a second time last July and having her third child in September to her new relationship with New England Patriots player Stefon Diggs this spring – has played a key role in the upcoming project. "It's a lot of lover girl things, too, on my album. I've been heartbroken and then I'm loving again, and then I'm exploring again," she added, though she noted there'll be music to 'fight' to as well.

Ahead of the release of Music For People Who Believe in Love, Jonas spoke exclusively with Billboard about creating the body of work under his own name and his hopes for how it will touch the lives of his fans. I have a beautiful life that I'm grateful for. I've got two beautiful kids.
